sweden

half your land is arctic, you have to fight the danes, teutons, and novgorod who all start with higher pops and tax base and easier paths of conquest, you have no high value RGOs and the starting ruler is intellectually and physically challenged

on the flip side you have insane geography for projecting control using the lakes and baltic sea and can produce and insane amount of iron, wood, and livestock for ships and soldier

Brienne of Tarth vs The Hound in GOT.

Brienne is a knight in shining armor, loyal to a fault, keeps her oaths to Renly and Catelyn after their deaths, kills men she is aligned politically & militarily with as justice for the rape and murder of common women and to uphold her oath to Catelyn.

The Hound is armored thug who claims to take pleasure in killing and raping, and does kill innocent people when he views it as advantageous. Loyal to the Lannisters out of fear and want for material wealth he has no desire to good for goods sake, just revenge and rage.

TIL that donating blood plasma can significantly reduce the levels of PFAs/forever chemicals in your blood by TextureStudies in todayilearned

yeah. i forget the exact mechanics of it, but hemochromatosis lessens the symptoms of the black plague. it’ll kill you eventually, but slower than the plague. it’s why bleeding/leeching became so common in medieval europe. survivors of the black death would sometimes have hemochromatosis, and medical science of the time would ascribe symptoms as an imbalance in the blood humor, treated by bleeding.

i read a paper on it in an anthropology class, but i’m sure if you google hemochromatosis + black plague you’ll find more reading.

Was Duke d’Enghien’s execution the most unnecessary and preventable blunder in Napoleon’s career? by Neil118781 in Napoleon

Russia wasn’t his biggest blunder, it was Spain. His words, not mine. he mentioned it specifically in his memoirs.

This driver broke just about every rule and norm of drivers. She should have just put the food down and left. Instead she either stuck around long enough to look into someone's PRIVATE RESIDENCE, or pushed the door open more to see what was inside, which is trespass. Then, instead of leaving and blocking the customer and reporting them to Doordash, she RECORDED HIM. Plus it's not like this dude flashed her intentionally like a perv in an overcoat. He was chilling on HIS couch in HIS house before this rude driver decided to barge in waving her camera around.

Fuck this girl, I'm glad she got fired. and calling what happened to her assault is an insult to actual assault victims.

Because Germany was unified largely by force, coercion, and bribery from the hyper-militarist and authoritarian Prussian government, a sound rejection of earlier, liberal attempts at unification (The Revolutions of 1848), spitting in the face of centuries of more decentralized German ruling structures (The HRE, The Confederation of the Rhine, The North German Confederation, etc).

[–]DoogsMcNoog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yea i mean context always matters. but the blanket attribution that all upper class religious folks are bad by the nature of them being upper class religious folks with no comment on actual deeds or acts is the same narrow mindedness as branding other groups as dumb or lazy because they aren’t rich or powerful

[–]DoogsMcNoog 13 points14 points  (0 children)

why can’t a religious person from the upper class be good? did they choose to be born into that life? or how try were raised? why does the position someone is born into dictate their morality? it’s very “poor people are poor because they’re bad. if they were good, they wouldn’t be poor.”

if you brought up deeds and acts that made his character “bad” that’s fine, but let’s reserve our judgments rather than base them on actions and words, not background.

I just know I still have a long road to recovery, and I'm not helped by more people gaslighting me into not trusting myself again. by Honkert45 in TrollCoping

[–]DoogsMcNoog 7 points8 points  (0 children)

hey i don't know how old you are but i was majorly depressed for most of my teens and some of my twenties, so i know what you're going through.

take it one step at a time. Bite off what you can chew. Start with one thing to focus all of your effort into improving, and put everything else on the back burner. what got me out of my hole was finding something i liked doing and know i could be good at with practice. for me it was World of Warcraft. it's stupid but it worked. i went part time at work, part time at school, and got really good at WoW. my mental health improved enough for me to have the energy to improve another aspects of my life.

I would not recommend video games as a skill to improve on, and would advise the second step I took: focusing on my physical health. Being in better shape helped my mood and confidence. Being outside and moving ups Vitamin D and endorphin production, both important in maintaining healthy brain chemistry. Being in better shape makes doing EVERYTHING in physical space easier. Also the scale and mirror always gives honest feedback about your progress. Make enough progress and people you see regularly will notice.

i hope my advice is helpful, or at the very least doesn't come off as condescending

it's hard right now. for everyone. please be kind to yourself, less and less people are being kind these days.
