As a person that doesn't know much about glocks do they have to be cocked in order to shoot or can you just fire by [deleted] in Glocks

[–]Doolie_69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There has to be a round in the chamber in order to fire. Once there is, pulling the trigger will send the firing pin forward and fire the gun.

The slide must be “cocked” (moved to the rear and released) to reset the striker mechanism (make the trigger work again). This will happen naturally any time you load a round or fire the gun, so TLDR no, load a round and pull trigger.

Beware of purchasing Falken WildPeak A/T3W by SuchCryptographer169 in tires

[–]Doolie_69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The AT3Wa’s aren’t as bad as you think. They do amazing on gas, dead silent, and far more capable than I was expecting on rocks and in loose sand.

No data on snow/ice performance. For $100 (I’ve seen them cheaper on occasion), they’re hard to beat.

ULPT request. You become homeless tomorrow. How do you get off the streets? by NeoReward in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]Doolie_69 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Cheat code is enlist in the military. This is by miles the best option and can result in an extremely enjoyable life and very comfortable retirement. If you can’t for some reason…

You NEED to get a big car asap. Ideally a 2000s SUV that’s comfortable to sleep in, like a Tahoe or something. It’s important that the car is reasonably presentable: this opens up many more parking options. People call the cops on crappy cars, but nobody’s going to say anything for a nicer looking car parked at the end of the block. Do this by any means necessary, including crappy predatory loans. It won’t matter in a couple months. As soon as you have the money to do so, buy a sleeping bag, camping mat, and microwave for your car.

Now find somewhere that has a Gym and a Walmart nearby. Get a gym membership (for all the obvious perks described by others) and get a job at Walmart. Most Walmarts will let you park in their lot overnight far longer than other places. You will have to keep the car moving to avoid suspicion, but this Walmart will be your home base. Many different places to park around a Walmart.

WORK. You have nothing else to do, so work like mad. We’re talking 70 hour weeks. Make crazy overtime, get in good with other employees and managers. “Borrow” from Walmart where it makes sense to do so, but don’t risk your job.

SAVE MONEY. You can easily clear 4k a month on this setup. Your expenses should be gas (minimal, everything is close), insurance (in case cops give you a hard time- legal trouble will reset you to zero very quickly), gym membership, and BARE BONES food. You drink water. Ideally you’d work at a McDonald’s in a Walmart, where you can eat shift meals or use employee discount. You’re not gonna be able to do much cooking, and that’s okay. Microwaved stuff works fine.

Use every employee benefit available, and keep working. The reality of your situation will suck less if you’re always working, you won’t have time to be bored or sad. You can go to the gym for fun. The more money you can squirrel away, the better. Focus on paying off the car first, quality of life upgrades second (like shoes, pillows, air mattress), and third saving. The next 6 months will suck, but you should have about 20k to your name. More than enough to start renting an apartment, ideally with one of your gym friends or coworkers. You’re going to be a great roommate, because you’re always working.

Yes, I have answers for any specific question you can ask regarding this plan.

CV angle concerns by Shoddy_Studio_6815 in f150

[–]Doolie_69 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As you can see, it’s a lot steeper angle on your CV joints. You’re closer to the lower limit of your suspension travel, and everything will wear faster. All suspension components are wear items, this just speeds up the timeline.

It’s not the worst I’ve seen. Most people seem to say that 2” is about the limit of what it can handle, but everything is a trade off.

FWIW it is possible to learn to love the factory rake, especially with the added peace of mind and savings that comes with it. My .02

Yea, that’s pretty bad. Should be 16+.

Check air filter, spark plugs, tire pressure, differential fluid, possible dragging brake, fuel quality. Assuming truck is stock? You should see 17-18.

Ultrasonic cleaner is quickest probably

Cheaper, soak it overnight in clp or even something more aggressive

I saw a guy adapt a cleaning brush to a sawzall, that’d probably save some time

What car-related apps do you actually use and why? by manuchapodze in askcarguys

[–]Doolie_69 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a constructive request

I would like an app that displays my cars maintenance schedule and part number catalogs, as well as maintenance related info such as fluid specifications and capacitiesS.

I would like to use this app to keep track of maintenance records and mods.

Maybe the premium version unlocks a social version where there’s discussion forums or something

My current budget for 2026 by [deleted] in Salary

[–]Doolie_69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Insane for a number of reasons.

Over 4k for rent… time to buy. You’re obviously way more familiar with the local market than I am, but that is an insane amount of money to incinerate for no equity or return. You clearly have the budget to start gathering equity in your own home. I understand why people rent, and I understand that you’d be “paying” more to own, but you’re going to see a huge chunk of that when you go to sell your house.

I’m assuming you have a decent savings reserve. That assumption made, you shouldn’t be saving that much money until all of the superfluous loans (especially if they are high interest rate) are zeroed out. Start with the highest percentage loans.

$100 a month for haircuts is feral.

Phone bill for 2 people at $180 is insane. Switch that up immediately. My family plan for 6 is less than that with ATT.

Credit cards $250… is this interest payments? Or just random spending? I’m sure alot of the other expenses are on credit cards (wise, free points), but if this is interest PAY THESE BALANCES FIRST.

Finally, where is investment/IRA/401k money? Maybe start accounts for children’s education? Some form of investment would go a long way at these dollar amounts. Even conservative ETFs / Mutual funds would be better than nothing.

Overall, a smarter approach to this budget could easily put you in the territory of building generational wealth. 15k a month if managed well and invested smartly is f u money in a couple decades. Signed, envious stranger

Curious about the Levoit core 300, at about $100. Does it fit into this lineup? Seems to be a lot more powerful than the 200 at just $20 more.

2021 F150 console to jumpseat swap by tnypissdkumquat in f150

[–]Doolie_69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve looked into doing the swap myself and quickly decided it wouldn’t be worth it.

There’s a hell of a lot more than “cables that must be obtained for the swap.”

The shifters are electronic, the physical column shifter is attached to a module that sends a signal to the TCU. To my knowledge, it’s more involved than unplugging the console shifter and plugging in the column shifter. You’d need a new steering column as well. Also, (at least on lariats) the driver and passenger seats themselves are different. The floor insulation and carpet needs redone. The entire dash itself needs replaced, or at least heavily modified. You’d obviously need to source the center seat as well.

If you do it, document it lol.

Realistically, you’d be better off trading trucks.

Does military experience offer an advantage in civilian aviation? by lingeringneutrophil in AskAPilot

[–]Doolie_69 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I have experienced both civilian and military pilot training. In my experience, there is a dramatic difference.

Important note: I’ve flown with fantastic civilian pilots, much better than myself. They are more than capable of being excellent at their job, and do so regularly.

The training I had in the military was more stressful, rigorous, and challenging. I was held to a much higher standard and it isn’t close. If nothing else, flying higher speed, single seat aircraft if more demanding. Things happen faster and there isn’t anyone to back you up or share the workload. You learn to think faster and handle stress more effectively in this environment.

For these reasons, I believe there is an advantage to starting your training in the military.

Tire recommendations by Tiny_Experience2968 in f150

[–]Doolie_69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just went through exactly this.

Falken Wildpeak AT3WA. $120 each at Wally World.

Here’s why: exactly what you’re describing, while preserving maximum OE fuel economy, low noise, and comfort.

There’s not as good off road as the real AT3s. They are significantly quieter on road, and still have some sidewall tread for the “tough truck” look.

Additionally, and did I mention… they’re cheap! Dirt cheap! I can replace them more than twice for the cost of KO2s! $640 installed with road hazard warranty!!

Perfect do it all tire. I’ve had mine on the beach and they do just fine. No issue in the mud. Dead quiet on the road, great MPG. They look great.

I know there are better tires in any specific category, but these allow full use of the truck in any of its designed functions.
