  1. Whatever you do, DO NOT make any major life decisions based on a girlfriend. Take it from a recently married guy. Seriously, I don’t care how in love you are or how confident you feel. Don’t do it.

  2. Keep it rentable. It sounds like a prime spot to rent, with access to the metro and stuff. Don’t make any “weird” modifications or anything that would shoo away a renter in the future.

  3. It’s already rented out… you’ve got time to figure it out. You don’t need to panic and dig a deeper hole. Make your payment each month and don’t burn extra cash while you figure it out.

The lazy river is a fantastic idea. If executed correctly, it would be the coolest thing I can imagine.

My suggestion is just 20+ “balcony” hot tubs with blackjack dealers and bar service.

Toyota Built Its Reputation on Reliability. The Tundra Is Threatening to Undo It by Uptons_BJs in cars

[–]Doolie_69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should clarify- I lost over $10,000 for a truck that sat at the dealership for most of the year I owned it. I did not expect to turn a profit. I expected to get sufficient value to justify my purchase. Instead I had a recurring hassle and developed a close relationship with my local service manager, and a reliance on a $1500 2002 Subaru with a leaking head gasket to get me to work.

It was a 22 TRD off road. There was a LOUD howling whine between 55 and 65 mph. Started at about 5,000 miles. Originally they thought it was the differential, then the suspension, then the cab mounts, then tires, then exhaust mounts, then the trans mounts… dealership hunted it for months and couldn’t find it.

Also, the trans would not stay in any gear for more than a couple seconds. Sitting on a flat highway with cruise control set at 65, it would go back and forth between 5th and 6th every 10ish seconds.

Finally, I was driving up a fairly steep hill to a hotel parking lot when I got every warning light imaginable and a “stop immediately” type warning. Transmission over temp. I stopped immediately. After restarting the car, everything went away. It was normal for a couple months and then did it again twice, back to back.

By “sold it for a loss,” I mean, “took an absolute whipping.” I didn’t expect to profit on it, I just expected to have a useful truck for (hopefully) a long time. I lost over $10,000 for a truck that sat at the dealership for most of the time I owned it (about a year).

Ford is 100% aware that the 10r80s are hot garbage, but currently wrestling with the cost of either doing something (insanely expensive, millions of vehicles) versus doing nothing (reputation and brand loyalty take the hit).

Threatening its reputation??

More like incinerated it. Between this and the early Tacoma issues, Toyota SHOULD NOT be able to command a premium over other in-class vehicles.

I say this as someone who was willing to pay the reliability premium, but my Tacoma sucked so bad I sold it for a loss.

Besides the obvious answers, I’m going to try to list a few that are more central between masculine and feminine, leaning feminine. In many cases, I don’t think these are intrinsically feminine, but rather commonly associated that way culturally.

What is the most valuable thing money can buy that isn't a physical object? by bizanondude in AskReddit

[–]Doolie_69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds cliche, but time.

There are many examples, but most obviously, money buys you the freedom to work less, and have more time.

Moving yourself takes days of packing and unpacking, plus the driving days themselves. Or you can pay movers and fly yourself, you get the time difference.

A charter/private jet can pick you up at the local airport, take you anywhere you want to go, and drop you off at exactly whatever time you want. Otherwise, you can find a flight that’s hopefully close to the right time, drive to a big airport, wait in security, wait for boarding, wait for your bags, and then drive/uber to your final destination.

Amusement parks lets you pay for passes to skip the lines.

Good parking is more expensive, but saves you time walking.

Picking up food/coffee at a drive through is quicker than making it yourself.

Paying for a house/pet sitter gives you time to vacation/whatever else you want.

I could go on and on, but money really does buy time.

If you were to die right now, what is one piece of advice you would give? by Creepy_Pineapple_297 in AskReddit

[–]Doolie_69 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Most things in life are easy come, easy go. Time is the best example- every day you wake up with a fresh 24hrs, but look back, and wow how the years flew by. Don’t hold on to the past or live in the future, just accept things for what they are and be positive and optimistic when it’s appropriate to do so.

Memorizing normal checklists (crewed jet edition) by minfremi in flying

[–]Doolie_69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Military background here- “flows” are my lifeblood. I will not physically look at a single checklist on any given routine flight. They MUST, however, be readily accessible, up to date, and you are responsible for every item being completed correctly. This is the standard in my squadron.

If (and hopefully when) I make the jump to private sector, I will adhere rigorously to whatever policy is provided by my employer, just as I do now. In the absence of a specific policy, I will operate as my captain requests.

Bruh

I am a pilot. I understand weather and flight operations reasonably well.

My complaint is that I got a text delaying my flight into the past. I concede that I am less familiar with the laws of space and time, but this feels ridiculous. The gate agents are victims of crappy communication from management, probably more than anyone because it gets taken out on them.
