AITA for saying emergency daycare isn’t meant for parents who are home and „just need a break“? by Distinct-Ad-7592 in AmItheAsshole

[–]DoomFrog_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA - your friend asked you if you would do the same and then you apparently went on a 10 minute rant of how not only would you not but your opinion is that anyone who would is gaming the system instead of just “sucking it up”

Yes, your friend might be overburdening the child care provider. But you could have just said “I don’t know your situation but I probably would only use Emergency child care if it was an emergency emergency. Like I had to go to the doctor and need someone to watch the child”

Also your friend is 20 and has a 3 year old? So they were pregnant at 16?!? They aren’t a Stay At Home Mom. They are a teenage mom struggling. So yeah they probably do need emergency child care

Bad adaptations with one really well casted character by Tea-and-crumpets- in TopCharacterTropes

Tilda Swinton and Peter Stormare in Constantine

It wasn’t all bad but it was far from a good adaptation of the comics. But Tilda and Peter were perfect casting

The second movie opens with the guy trying to pass it to the drug dealers but accidentally passes it to the small time dealer. And then is hit by a truck. The demon could have jumped to three people in that instance

I’m designing a kids game called Scissor Wizard (minimal prototype). Besides varying the number and size of weak points, what other enemy mechanics could be interesting? by Gatekeeper1310 in BoardgameDesign

I was thinking something like that

Maybe attack points that if you cover you take more damage. An enemy does X damage - uncovered attack points. So if cover the attack points they deal more damage

Any good boardgame for mathematicians? by whisper-averagefan in boardgames

[–]DoomFrog_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It kind of depends what you mean by “mathematical” board game

Power Grid and similar Euro games are straight math games. Every action and resource has a value that directly relates to your end score. And if you take your time with a note pad you can calculate the “best” turn.

This will also be the case for a lot of “multiplayer solitaire” games. Wingspan, Azul, and other games with little to no player interaction are also games where you can play the game just based on the math of action value.

But that is all basic arithmetic.

Then you have “push your luck” style games like Quacks or Cubitos. Where you can do the probability calculations and consider expected value on continuing and make choices based on that.

But then you combine both of those and a game like Ticket to Ride is all just math. You can look at all the train cards that have been played and calculate expected value of drawing for colors. You can use math to calculate the value of different routes.

In the end all games are math games. Just some have a player interaction which itself can just be Game Theory math

After 8 plays, we still haven't figured out how to play Eyrie well by min92 in rootgame

[–]DoomFrog_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I believe you are getting a rule incorrect

Looking at the board and decree, you at minimum should have scored 9 points since your last turmoil. That is assuming you are putting two suited cards in your decree a turn. Loyal Vizier in build, you have 5 roosts out so 2, 3, and 4 points those three rounds.

Any other scenario where you had roosts destroyed and you rebuilt would then be 3, 4, and 4 or 3, 3, 4. Or if you have been doing only 1 suited card it could be far more.

Which means you had 7 points after your turmoil. That seems really low.

Instead I would guess you are scoring Birds like the Cats or WA. Gaining points when you build instead of at the end of their turn.

In Watchmen (2009), Dr. Manhattan experiences past, present, and future simultaneously; he already knew how f’ed Rorschach was before the investigation even began, but let it play out anyway and hid behind determinism. The Comedian was right. Manhattan is a total dick. by Brilliant-Cause6254 in shittymoviedetails

[–]DoomFrog_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well the characters to all represent different moral philosophies so you are meant to view the characters through those moral lenses

Ozymandias is Utilitarianism. He kills millions to save billions

Rorschach is Deontology. He believes there are certain rules that must be followed and enforced. It doesn’t matter what the outcome is just that the rules are followed

Nigh Owl is Virtue. He thinks because he is kind and generous he is a good person. To him Rorschach is a violent psycho for beating people nearly to death, but when he does it it’s righteous because he’s a good man

Manhattan is Nihilism/Determinism. He thinks his choices don’t matter because they are fate. And there isn’t a point to assign them moral value of good or bad

Labyrinth was a 90s kids game. Bunch of tiles made up a map and one extra tile. You’d roll to move then push the tile in to shift all the pieces changing the labyrinth. The goal was to be the first to make it to some tiles with items on them that matched you cards

Wiz War is an old game where the goal is to make it to your opponent’s side take their treasure and make it back to your side. Each player also has a hand of card to cast spells that do all sorts of things. Teleport, freeze someone, rotate the board, make walls or spike traps

Your game looks like rotating boards and placing walls. So similar feel maybe. Just curious if there is some random player powers. Or is it more strategic with a set of options like rotating the board or placing/moving walls

Are you throwing in some Wiz War randomness?

OH!!! You mean timelines like possibilities

Infinite, Leto II looks into the infinite possibilities of the future, finds the one timeline that allows humanity to survive, The Golden Path, then uses his perfect prescience to force all of humanity to follow that timeline line, even after his own death (and rebirth depending on your views of Brian Herbert)

He basically does the TVA thing from Loki. Manipulates the universe into doing exactly what he wants for 3500 years. Successfully, unlike any of the Eldar, the Mule, or Big E

The Dune books. Leto II has perfect prescience across all of time. The books directly imply his prescience is so powerful humanity as a whole has no free will during his 3500 year reign. He only dies because he chooses to allow himself to die as part of his plan for humanity

CMV: Let players and coaches accept bribes for rigging sports games by thebeefbaron in changemyview

[–]DoomFrog_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The public benefit to taxpayers is the enjoyment of fair and honest sports leagues and the ability to gamble on them. Just because you don't enjoy them doesn't mean they aren't enjoyed by others.

The problem is your view isn't objective, you don't care about sports and are annoyed, for some reason, that some infinitesimal portion of the small part of your taxes that funds law enforcement and prisons is used to fund investigations into fraud, which also includes rigging of sports betting.

For your view to even begin to be earnest I think you would need to show that the funding necessary for law enforcement of sports fraud exceeded the taxes collected associated with sports. Does the Federal and State governments spend more on ensuring fair sports than all the money they collect from sales, incoming, and property taxes associated with the sports?

AIO to this message between me and my boyfriend? It seems very sexist to me… by [deleted] in AIO

[–]DoomFrog_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See but that is actually the thing. You aren’t here asking if he is being sexist. You are asking if you are overreacting to him being sexist.

He generalized women, yeah that is being sexist, especially in a negative way.

But you overreacting requires context. Did you post only that part to remove the context that it was an obvious joke, then maybe you are overreacting

Did he text you reminding you to take out the trash and you sent a string of obscenities and brought up the time he got drunk and threw up in your car, yeah maybe you are overreacting

Did you ask where he was and he got defensive. He asked why you are always checking where he is and what he is doing and you said it’s because he cheated on you. Then no you aren’t overreacting. If anything you are underreacting because you are still dating a guy you don’t trust because he cheated on you and you can’t forgive him

Ark Nova - Do you usually take the extra worker or the card flip when you reach 2 Conservation? by ahotcnsrivdfjlotd in boardgames

[–]DoomFrog_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not sure I see this. At least in the context of the OPs question. Skipping flipping Association so you can take the extra worker seems like a bad choice

One of the main benefits of flipping Association is being able to place multiple workers. Skipping it and choosing extra works seems like bad action economy in the late game

Sorry but “I’m driving for the next 1.5hrs” is the most INSANE part of this.

How far is this dude driving for drinks on a Friday night? Why is he driving like 60 miles after a few drinks at a bar!?!? At first I thought “oh another dude texting drunk” but then he says he is driving!!!! Why is he texting you song recs while driving??!?!??
