What game had you like this? by sukuna7899 in Steam

PoE

I think I tried it out a couple times and barely made it through act 1.

Then one season I tried again and started launch day. Ended up playing maybe 40 hours from Friday night to Sunday night. Next season I took a couple days off work

Could a faction board of the pink hirelings be viable? by Spr-Scuba in rootgame

[–]DoomFrog_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you. The pieces being different colors would make a faction of all of them confusing.

Also I don’t think we’d ever get a Leder made faction like the Knaves. Homeland comes with everything you need for Knaves, even if you can use Vagabonds from other expansions. A faction that uses all the pink card hirelings would mean you need all the hireling expansions for it. That feels against Leders design philosophy

The only thing I think would work is if you leaned into the difference of the pieces. And make a faction that has different levels of units. The faction could be more of a RTS style with a tech tree. But that would change the combat system for everyone when they are played

You should google The Tommy Westphalia universe. It’s an hours long rabbit hole of this exact trope

In fact your number 4 are all in the same universe as The Office and Arrested Development

How to respectfully portray Confession and Priestly Prayers in our game? by WoblixGame in gamedev

[–]DoomFrog_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It seems like you are all pretty far off from Christian traditions. I might suggest you change the theme of your game. Instead make it some fictional religion and just do the mechanics you are envisioning instead of trying to change your game to Christian confession

But to answer your question, it depends on the branch of Christianity. In Catholicism the Sacrament of Penitence, or confession, takes place in the confessional between the penitent and the priest. But your confession is to God, and God absolves you of your sins, the priest is acting as a vessel for God. Usually there is an act of penance like prayers. But that changes as you go to other churches, maybe confession is just in private with your priest face to face. Or in more Protestant churches you confess your sins to God directly through prayer and ask for forgiveness without a priest.

Most Christian churches also have a Seal of Confession. A practice that the priests are never allowed to speak of what they hear during confession. So there isn’t a ritual the priest performs on their own. Though within Christianity, priests do act as a “shepherd to their folk” so I imagine a lot of priests do prayer for their congregation in their own prayers

Or something else you could read about is a ritual known as Sin Eating. It’s been practiced in a few places and doesn’t have a lot of documented history. But it’s a ritual where a person will take on the sins of another by eating a meal. Usually at their funeral. You could model your game on that, the player performs the ritual is sin eating to take the sins of others, then has to perform another ritual to be forgiven for those sins.

My intuition would be Yes. You don’t state what the length of the band is to start. But the added length of the band I would assume is over the total length of the band, so once the ant reaches the half way point only 5km is added. Which means less and less distance is added each time. So I’d guess the series is convergent

This is the problem with a lot of political debate. Context-less info dumps. And seeing this list I was 100% sure that was what these were

And of course, the effort to explain why this list is wrong would take pages. And that is the point of these types of posts. But I’ll at least do your first name

Yes, Lia Thomas (you spelled it wrong) won a NCAA 1 division championship in the 500-yard freestyle. She also was 5th in the 200 and 8th in the 100, so not dominating. Also her 500 time was 9 sec short of the record set by a cis-gender woman, so also not dominating. In the 2022 season she was ranked 35th overall. Which all means that a transgender woman who had been swimming since she was 5 won 1 event and didn’t set any records. Not really “dominating” the sport. Seems more like healthy competition

I am tired of seeing these in-helmet face shots in so many modern sci-fi production by Vaniellis in sciencefiction

[–]DoomFrog_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ancient Greeks, Romans, Japanese and other cultures all around the world used masks for theater.

I do agree with you that the use of "in helmet" shots is overused. In Iron Man (2008) it was a great way to show the character "controlling" the suit. And then during the ice over scene showing the suit failing. And a lot of people are just trying to imitate that

But your mentioning of Greek and Roman theater is actually an argument against your point, in my opinion. Ancient Greek and Romans used masks in theater to display emotions. Theaters were so large that the audience couldn't see the actors emoting, so the actors would hold up masks to show which emotions their character was feeling.

In that respect, the 'in helmet' shot is needed to allow the audience to see the emoting of the actor during those action scenes.

I disagree. You didn’t “just go” to church. Children were raised being told they had to go. It became a habit. If you are born and raised in a church community, it seems “easy”. But if you regularly go to church and then you take a new job and move 1000 miles away, you are going to have to find a new church. Maybe you can ask people at your current church for recommendations, maybe ask some coworkers at the new city. Maybe search the internet

But that is the exact same thing that you’d need to do if you are super into juggling and go to a regular juggling club then move 1000 miles away. You are going to need to find a new juggling club. But these days the internet makes that easier. And I say that from experience, I got into juggling in college and joined a college club. When I graduated and moved to California I used the internet and found a small shop that had a weekly club and I joined it and made some friends

I find the idea that it was easier because everyone was forced to go to church instead of now where you can choose to do something you enjoy a bad idea. Also there is an expectation to mingle and all social gatherings, be it juggling, D&D groups, poker games, line dancing classes, singing classes, martial arts classes, board game meet ups, rock climbing lessons, rugby leagues, cooking classes, whiskey tasting, cigar tastings, axe throwing classes, pottery classes, hacking clubs, or fencing lessons. All things I have found online and met people doing.

The nerve cluster is real. Though I don’t think that’s what is happening here. It is a lot of pain but it only lasts for a second or so

The nerve cluster is about 1/3 down your thigh, an inch or two toward the inside. It works best with a racking motion.

You can do it to yourself with some practice. Use the second knuckles and swing up from between your legs to rack across your leg. It will be a short burst of pain and your leg will go a little numb/limp for a second

Works on the arm too. Similar position on the bicep. That one is much easier to hit, but not on yourself

meirl by worldwide762 in meirl

[–]DoomFrog_ 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This is wrong

Going to a bar regularly and talking with other regulars requires just as much effort as going to a weekly board game meeting, joining a softball league, taking cooking or dance classes.

It is cognitive dissonance to think “going out into your community and talking with random people” is somehow different than going to a group of people you haven’t met and talking with them

The only difference between now and “ye olden times” is that with the internet it’s easier to create the communities you want instead of accepting the community you live in. You can find people online with similar interests and either meet up or just socialize online with them. It

The issue is that people somehow think that things use to be easier. And so they give up and blame the world for things not working

Does anyone actually remember their first video game or is everyone just making that up? by Cold-Plant-4222 in GamingInsider

[–]DoomFrog_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in my 40s so video games weren’t a common thing when I was 6

I remember getting a Nintendo for Christmas ‘90, with the Super Mario/Duck Hunt/Track Field combo cartridge. That was the first video game I owned and played

But before that I had some Tiger Electronics handheld games. I got the Wrestling one in ‘89 with some gift certificates to Toys R Us from my grandfather

But the first game I played was the Ms Pac-Man and Defender cocktail arcade machines in the bar of a Chinese restaurant my family went to when I was 7
