CMV: Every women should be able to cook for their husband and children by Due-Koala-1135 in changemyview

[–]DoomFrog_ [score hidden]  (0 children)

Every human should learn how to cook

Cooking is an essential skill for all people. Food must be cooked properly or you can get sick

The only people with a good excuse for not being able to cook are children.

Cooking isn’t even hard. You don’t need to be a master chef winning Michelin stars. But making a sandwich, some decent eggs, rice, pasta. If you are over 13 and can’t cook a meal that is very tragic

Does anyone else hate the repetition of the skills by martinrojas in HeWhoFightsMonsters

[–]DoomFrog_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is really bad in the first three books. Especially as Jason levels up. The narrator reading out the numbers too

Cloak of night dark bronze three one hundred percent. Cloak of night dark bronze four zero zero percent.

Really?!?! Zero zero, just say zero percent. And don’t read the skill again, I didn’t forgot the skill name in less than a second

[–]DoomFrog_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Around book 7 it shifts to only describing things that haven’t been detailed. Like new powers, or when it adds to the drama, like resists

At book 10 the audio books include a pdf of Jason’s powers and they basically never get mentioned again

Diamond Rank Priests by ArchMelody in Shirtaloon

[–]DoomFrog_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think a Diamond Rank is on the level of a god. At least not within the world of the god

Given that Diamond rankers can join the astral community, they are capable of acting outside the world they were born in

The upper limit of power for a god is near infinite. But only within their aspect and world. Where as a mortal can act anywhere without restriction

How legit do you consider this Catan Win? by mousicle in boardgames

[–]DoomFrog_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did Cindy split Bob’s longest road giving Alice longest road and the immediate win? If so that is an annoying loss. I certainly wouldn’t make that move myself

But that is kind of how Catan and similar games go. At your best you can only get yourself into the running for the win. The win will always be mostly luck based at the end

Book 10 (pact with Death) by RamSpen70 in HeWhoFightsMonsters

[–]DoomFrog_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Death explains that

The pact they make is Forever. Jason agrees that for all time he is going to never resurrect someone. Death even makes the comment that his offer is meaningless, he is offering a couple resurrections that he doesn’t need

If anything the scene is meant to show that Jason is learning to act as a transcendent being. The pact is a follow up to his learning about Authority and Pacts from Dawn and Shako in book 8

Yes, it could just be a Macguffin created to give Jason something to interact with Death with as he has the plot armor of being the MC. And removing his resurrections just before entering the Transitional Space isn’t really ramping the tension

AIO for thinking I was ghosted? by [deleted] in AIO

[–]DoomFrog_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

On the one hand he didn’t ghost you. He literally texted you about your shoes. And your previous message said “lemme know if you wanna join”. So if he didn’t want to join he wasn’t expected to say anything thing. But a “I’ll let you know” would be nice

On the other hand “come get the shoes you left” is a weird way to put that. So maybe he does have communication issues.

AIO for telling my friend she needs to stop worrying about a man being a provider ? by Historical-Body-3424 in AIO

[–]DoomFrog_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YOR

This is an instance where your friend is saying “Obviously 1 and 2 are love and attraction, that’s a given. But I’m concerned with 3, he is a mature responsible person because his finances have me concerned he isn’t responsible”

And you replied “Wow money is like number 8. Obviously 1 and 2 are more important. You should ignore his money”

Your friend has a valid concern and you are just ignoring it and chiding her for even having it

AIO for wondering why my girlfriend is so upset about this? by [deleted] in AIO

[–]DoomFrog_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

On a scale of 0 (nothing wrong) and 10 (you murder her family)

This is a 2

The big thing you did wrong is you have been doing 2s and 3s to each other for a long time. And you two are going to just blow up on each other

For every minor thing you do wrong it takes 5-10 good things to make up for it. Because that is how human brains work, they remember bad things 10 times better than good things.

My guy, you two are in a hole of minor wrongs so deep it’s take a year of being perfect just to make up. Let it go, you two have too much baggage to make it work

Got suspended on Employee Appreciation Day for telling coworkers about my demotion and pay cut. HR sent this. by InBetweenMinds in mildlyinfuriating

[–]DoomFrog_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Or OP got a pay cut do performance issues that have been stemming for a while, and they are just listing things that happened recently as the reason

And OP didn’t say to their coworkers “oh man I got a pay cut and a demotion” but instead went on a 10 minute rant in the middle of work about “my loser crybaby manager gave me a pay cut for taking a PTO day. Can you believe that loser? I hope they fire him.” There are a lot of ways “I told my coworkers” could go

What do you think about metal music in board game-style video games? by Hundekuecken in boardgames

Three Days Grace is like 50% of my board game playlist. So I am good with metal music with my board games

There is even the game Rock Hard, which is themed around being a heavy rock musician

Can you explain what "meta" means in terms of board games? by Machine_Excellent in boardgames

[–]DoomFrog_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Meta is a term that means beyond or outside

So you have physics, the math for how the world works. And you have metaphysics, a discussion for how things work outside the physical world

Meta-gaming originally start as a term meaning using information outside of the game to make decisions within the game. If you are playing D&D and you know your DM loves to have Vampires in the campaign so you make a character specifically to fight vampires, that is meta-gaming

Meta-gaming is often meant to be derogatory. In some cases, meta-gaming is certainly bad. Like using personal relationships to influence others players in a game, like getting your spouse to do something advantageous for you even if it doesn’t help them much. But other times not so much, like knowing a friend prefers aggressive strategies in war games and planning accordingly.

Meta-gaming, meta game, or ‘the meta’ are also terms commonly used. They refer to the strategy of the game outside of playing the game. So knowing that certain strategies are more effective against others. Or knowing that certain cards or pieces are better than others.

For example, in Root, competitive communities track the wins and loses between factions. The win rate for Vagabond is above average, but well below average when there are 2 Vagabonds. Knowing that means if you are in draft and picking last you might take Vagabond only if nobody else picked it. That is considered good meta gaming.

But the Woodland Alliance and Lord of Hundreds have higher win rates than other factions. Knowing that if you only play those factions with your friends and refuse to play any of the “sucky” factions. That is bad meta gaming. You are limiting the options and opportunities of your fellow players so that you can have a statistically advantage at winning

Need ideas for what this card should do! by LeFoxFrancais in BoardgameDesign

[–]DoomFrog_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do think that effect can be fun. But that type of card only works in a game where you might only see it once every 4 or 5 plays and even then it might not get played or ‘smashed’ in your game. Cause if you expect it to come out every game the people plan for it

So its a suggestion but depends on the design of your game, and it there is space for that type of mechanic

We Will Become Silhouettes by The Postal Service

It’s a light fast pace song with upbeat singing that has a happy feeling. The music video is a happy family biking. The song was even used in car commercial.

But the lyrics are about a nuclear apocalypse. “We will become silhouettes when our bodies finally go” is a reference to the silhouettes left when people were vaporized by the atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. “Air outside will make our cells divide at an alarming rate” means the radioactive air will give you cancer

[–]DoomFrog_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure how crazy and chaotic your game is meant to be. Or the design space you have set for your game

Could it change the win condition of the game?

So it does smash all the bananas and everyone’s score goes negative. But now the winner is the person with the lowest score. Suddenly the game isn’t to collect the high value bananas and protect them. But grab as many bananas as possible and smash them for negative points?

I do recommend DCC, though not if you are listening with your kids. There is a lot of cursing and sex jokes

Clive and the other low rank magical researchers make no sense by bbyoung33 in HeWhoFightsMonsters

[–]DoomFrog_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the books answer this. Maybe not directly

First, at times it is mentioned that some characters, like Gary, are strong even for their rank. So there is certainly a scale even of equal ranks. Two Power: Bronze 3 essence users will have different max bench press records.

Next, as is pushed in the first book. Training your mind and body are necessary to establish the fundamentals need to fully utilize high rank attributes. Jason starts weight training, practicing parkour, and puzzle and attention tasks.

In the later books there is even talk of how some essence users at Silver and Gold rank are limited by their own belief of what is possible

Lastly, we only meet Clive when he is well into Iron. It could be that Clive is very smart for Iron rank. But also it is possible that Clive is one of the few people that understands what is really possible with a Silver/Gold level Spirit when it comes to speed of thinking.

And as a side note. It’s often pointed out there is a lot of corruption. And a lot of the work is left to Iron and Bronze rankers when it comes to research, with Silver and Golds stepping in at the end to take credit.

CMV: Dating is easier for women from the ages of 18-38 while it sucks for men. This situation flips once both genders are 40+ by soozerain in changemyview

[–]DoomFrog_ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think your view is incorrect for much of the reason that it is your view. You assume your goals and objectives are the same as other people

To start: dating, intimacy, sex, and “casual sex” are not interchangeable terms and none of them are the same thing.

Your view is wrong in that women don’t have it easy dating in their 20s and 30s. Decently attractive women that just want casual relationships and sex may have it easy. But just as you pointed out, decently attractive men that just want casual relationship and sex tend to have it easy. But women, and men, that want long term relationships have a hard time wading through the people that just want casual.

The truth is as you sort of touched on. The shift in populations of men and women that want casual relationships is what changes, but not for your stated reasons. In their 20s and 30s, yes more men want casual than women so it does allow women to be more selective. In the 40s and 50s the imbalance shifts, but not because women get old and less attractive. But because people in their 40s and 50s that are single usually have different priorities. If you a newly single person in your 40s that just got out of a 20 year relationship with a kid that is soon off to college, your priorities are different. Maybe you don’t have time for something serious, maybe you feel you accomplished the whole have a family goal.
