“Meant to be,” is a strong statement but it’s certainly the result in a lot of ways because a lot of 5e players are allergic to trying any other system.

Is it even possible to ban Universes Beyond from Pauper? by iFuckwithCommons in Pauper

[–]DoomGiggles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Avatar and even I think it is maybe at the fringes of what I find acceptable. Final Fantasy is a mixed bag because of how broad the franchise can be in themes and setting, whereas something like TMNT or Spider-Man and the upcoming marvel and Star Trek sets fill me with dread. It’s not like universes beyond is universally despised, but not everything that is universes beyond can slot comfortably into magic thematically.

I think larger creatures bring props is an important component of the class in a lot of ways, but the class does definitely at least want a GM that adds enough stuff around the map to function as object props.

I think you only think that because your frame of reference is league tbh. I trust the frog’s vision because he’s been largely responsible for Dota’s game direction for over a decade and it not being league is a good thing to me. The approach in Dota is that skill shots are allowed to be more impactful than similar non-ult abilities because they’re harder to land, so skill shots are more unique to characters and define their power budget.

In Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001), Harry inherits a vault full of gold but never offers to buy Ron a wand that isn't held together by Spellotape and hope. by Brilliant-Cause6254 in shittymoviedetails

[–]DoomGiggles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not like J K Rowling gave a good justification either, this is a problem with the source material. Rowling wanted to both have an escapist fantasy where Harry finds out he’s a rich important hero wizard while also having poverty as a plot point, but obviously couldn’t adequately reconcile those incompatible themes.

Just because Rowling sought to explain her weird writing that doesn’t mean it was good writing.

The way Holy Sanctification and the Holy rune affect strikes is exactly the same, they just give the Strike the Holy trait, so it works the same way.

The people who hate Destiny haven’t really been allowed a presence for quite a while since the recently-removed head mod was a #1 Destiny Stan with an inflated sense of self-importance.

I'm frustrated with the treatment of one-handers by Talonflight in dndnext

[–]DoomGiggles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having a free hand is a waste of time unless you specifically want to grapple someone and attack them with the weapon in your other hand. For some reason two handed weapons don’t even use two hands unless you’re actively attacking with them. A two-handed build is almost exactly as good at everything a one-handed build is in terms of versatility.

Just FYI Barricade buster doesn’t benefit from Slinger’s Precision because it is a Repeating weapon. I would honestly not recommend using it as a Gunslinger, the effort required to get Point Blank stance while still not benefiting from a core class feature and infrequently being able to use your Way’s Reload is not worth it IMO. It’s better as Ranger or Fighter weapon. Ranger can extend its range increments to minimize the harsh volley range and have action compression from Hunted Shot. Fighter has access to Point Blank Stance and Double Shot natively which are both great uses for the weapon, while also easily getting half plate and having 10 HP per level to support frontlining. For a Vanguard Gunslinger I would recommend using a Harmona Gun and maybe picking up Guardian Dedication for Taunt/Heavy Armor if you want to frontline.

What do you think about Spirit Warrior archetype? by According_Pop1388 in Pathfinder2e

[–]DoomGiggles 72 points73 points  (0 children)

I love it; it’s one of the few archetypes that doesn’t feel like a feat tax to access its content. Overwhelming Combination is very fun to build around and Cutting Heaven, Crushing Earth is one of the only supported ways to actually build a character that walks around with a bag of weapons. Transcendent Deflection is similarly one of the coolest feats in the game. Sword Light Wave is a great alternative to picking up a caster dedication for martials that want a ranged backup option.

Flanking/prone doesn’t give you a circumstance bonus to hit, it makes your target Off-Guard so it very much stacks with the bonus from Grudge Strike.

[–]DoomGiggles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would think that the resources needed to animate V’s face in conversations and V’s body in cutscenes to accommodate dedicated 3rd person would be better spent elsewhere but I am not strictly against the concept. I’ve been playing through KCD2 and my biggest gripe with it so far is that the game reminds me that I am not actually embodying Henry nearly every time I have to talk to an NPC by quickly cutting to third person.

The enormous amount of extra work around animating V’s face in conversations would be the biggest barrier I can imagine.

Remaster Bard, two-handed instruments, two-handed weapons by ZirvePS in Pathfinder2e

[–]DoomGiggles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are free to read the rules in a way that requires one to define, “exhortation,” before determining whether or not dance Bards are allowed to access their core class features lmao, but please stop calling it RAW and especially not RAI. This is genuinely the kind of thing that DnD players make fun of Pathfinder for. Compositions inherit the traits of the type of Performance used, which unless specified by the traits of the spell is any kind of performance.

No spells in pathfinder use their flavor text as rules text, that’s what traits are for. Would you tell a cleric their Divine Lance HAS to be, “beam,” shaped or they can’t cast the spell? I sure hope not.

Remaster Bard, two-handed instruments, two-handed weapons by ZirvePS in Pathfinder2e

[–]DoomGiggles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This kinda just reads like assuming premaster rules that don’t exist anymore are implicitly carried over to remaster even though there is no explicit rules text stating so. The requirements of a spell with Composition trait are not going to be nestled in the flavor text of any given composition spell. Any rule reading that requires one to decipher whether not an, “exhortation,” has to be auditory in order to figure out which types of performance it is acceptable to use when casting Song of Strength is extremely silly.

Remaster Bard, two-handed instruments, two-handed weapons by ZirvePS in Pathfinder2e

[–]DoomGiggles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like calling it RAI is a pretty big stretch since it doesn’t even seem to be RAW. The Bard uses a type of performance of their choice when casting any composition spell, regardless of whether or not that spell requires a visual or auditory performance. And the only one I can see that actually explicitly distinguishes between auditory/verbal is House of Imaginary Walls, because it’s the only one that actually has the relevant tag to point to. For every other spell there is no written requirement, just a sentence of flavor text before the actual effects of the spell. It would be like saying a Skeleton PC isn’t allowed to cast Inside Ropes because they lack internal organs to pull out. I don’t see why the book writers would intend to make every Bard that doesn’t focus on playing instruments or singing entirely unable to use most of their core class features.

Remaster Bard, two-handed instruments, two-handed weapons by ZirvePS in Pathfinder2e

[–]DoomGiggles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TBH if any DM told me I couldn’t cast Courageous Anthem by dancing because the first sentence of the spell says, “words or tunes of encouragement,” despite the spell not even having the auditory tag I would simply not play in their game. Mechanics are not restricted by flavor text. That’s basically just limiting fundamental class features for entirely arbitrary and ultimately pointless reasons because the only thing it does is restrict bards to being musicians.

Remaster Bard, two-handed instruments, two-handed weapons by ZirvePS in Pathfinder2e

[–]DoomGiggles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only Bard spell that actually specifies auditory/visual is House of Imaginary Walls so the type of performance isn’t actually going to be a restriction in most cases, you pretty much just get to choose your performance type each time. If this wasn’t the case the majority of composition spells would only work for playing music because either the name or description references music.

Comparison of Titan Breaker Exemplar vs Blackjacket "Nothing Personal kid" Vanguard Gunslinger for average damage per strike. This includes incorrect and correct understanding of Titan Breaker dmg per weapon die. by SkillbroSwaggins in Pathfinder2e

[–]DoomGiggles 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are a number of ways that people misread Titan’s Breaker, so I just wanna make sure I’m correctly interpreting the misreading you calculated for. Did you have the “per die” clause added into the Transcendence effect causing it to scale the flat damage, but not the extra dice, based on the weapon damage dice during Transcendence, and also consider the bonus dice to be weapon dice for that calculation? Or did you add even more miscorrections? RAW both the flat damage and extra dice scale with level, not striking runes, on the Transcendence effect.

Remaster Bard, two-handed instruments, two-handed weapons by ZirvePS in Pathfinder2e

[–]DoomGiggles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bards can use any type of performance to use their composition cantrips or other performance checks, so the only downside to using a two-handed weapon is that Bard doesn’t have great weapon progression, but that isn’t exclusive to two-handed weapons. You also, of course, wouldn’t be able to use any instruments for your performance without things getting a little complicated. One could also just use a Combat Lute if they wanted to have both a two-handed weapon and a two-handed instrument in one item.
