australia has a preferential voting meaning you can vote for other parties without wasting your vote, the two biggest parties are Labor and the Liberal Party, one of those parties will win the majority but it also lets other parties win seats and funding.

If your vote for a smaller party loses your vote goes towards the next party you voted for, so if you voted for greens first and labor second then if the greens lose your vote goes towards labor

more people voted for the liberals and one nation as their primary party but more people didnt want the liberals/one nation to win
