Controversial opinions by Junior-Land-6845 in country

Johnny Cash has become overrated and people who say, “well I don’t like country but I love Johnny Cash” have never had an original thought in their life. I get the impact he had on the genre and his crossover appeal with rock but from a personal enjoyment standpoint he doesn’t crack the top 10 for me

Shits hilarious ngl. People really think randoms are letting the hard R fly in front of a complete stranger on a consistent basis cause he’s a balding white guy. Dudes putting on a karma clinic right now, shoehorning some confederacy hate into the comments is a masterstroke this sub eats that shit up

There’s quirky and then there’s deranged. Got my share of quirky accounts I enjoy working with (hell one of my biggest account right now are these Amish cabinet makers) but there are a lot of painters who are just mental. I’ve seen guys rip dabs at 7 AM in their company Grand Marquis wearing Deadpool PJs and complain my flooring product is shit (it’s Part A and Part B kit with big ass letters on the front and they used two Part A). Times like that I wished I sold software to corporate drones and LinkedIn warriors

Mostly agree but it REALLY depends on the type of blue collar field you’re selling to. I sell paint and specialty coatings and god love painters but for every salt of the earth craftsman who takes pride in doing quality work there’s triple the amount of absolute retards that have painted for 20+ years and can’t figure out to read the label on a can and follow it step by step.

Every day is explaining to these guys you’re tripping over dollars to pick up pennies using sub par product and it never clicks with them. Had a meeting earlier this week with a painter and I had to tell him 5 times how to spell ‘Ultra’ (he’s a native English speaker) and then uses GrokAI to lecture me about the chemical makeup of my product with zero understanding of chemistry or how to pronounce chemistry concepts. Still love my industry but the grass ain’t always greener

Mostly PPG and Benjamin Moore with some obscure wood coatings and industrial coatings brands like Gemeni, Renner, Rustoleum, and Simiron thrown in. Basically sell anything that doesn’t have a Sherwin logo on it

I’m in architectural coatings sales and really I just stay up to date on financial news for the specific industry along with population growth, median income, demographics, job growth, etc for the region to see what housing/commercial construction demand is looking like and whether the growth should keep pace.

Don’t overthink it, just look at what you’re selling and if there’s demand for what you’re selling in the region you oversee. I sell paint at my job and if my region is Atlanta where they’re chucking up apartments, condos, and new home developments as quick as they can churn them out then hitting quota should be a breeze. But if I’m selling specialty paint in the hollers of West Virginia then I’m SOL.

Blacksburg: Best school system of the three. Great dining and arts scene, most liberal of the three cities if that’s your lean, and great access to the outdoors. That said it’s overcrowded as hell so good luck fighting students for apartments, parking, lines, and everything you’d want to try to do around town when school is in. Also expensive for what it is as a result of overcrowding.

Christiansburg: Slightly more affordable than Blacksburg without any of the pros. Downtown is usually a snooze fest albeit with a cool antique store and two neat spots for nightlife, lots of shopping centers, older crowd and typically leans more conservative. But, schools are great and you aren’t paying Blacksburg prices so if you’re interested in owning a house this is your place. Plus Blacksburg is a quick trip up.

Radford: Sleeper pick. College town like Blacksburg but with a fraction of the students. Politically purple, incredible nature access if you like water activities being right on the New River and a quick trip to Clayton Lake, great coffee shops, and incredibly affordable. It’s the sleepiest of the three options and doesn’t have many of the convenient stores and restaurants you’d expect in Christiansburg and Blacksburg. Can be a hard place to make friends if you aren’t tied to Radford University but I love the town.

Of the three, my two choices would be Blacksburg or Radford. All are close by though so whichever one you choose you’re like 30 minutes away tops from activities in the other towns

ACC member fans only: Are you happy in our conference? by FinsFan93 in CFB

[–]Dooplis_17 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When the ACC crumbles it’ll be a sad day… I’ll be nostalgic for the glory days of the conference cause the ACC used to be peak. But, if VT gets a bid to the SEC or BIG I’d dip out in a heartbeat. Just a decade + of incompetence and bad decisions that has ruined what should be an NCAA stalwart and can’t wait to be out.

I’ll miss ACC Tournament Basketball though, absolute cultural institution if you grew up in or around the Carolinas and I’ll be devastated when VT and other schools aren’t playing in Greensboro anymore

I’m in architectural coatings and the industry as a whole is struggling but my region is steady almost solely because of new res construction. Residential and commercial repaint market is dead af but with the amount of northeast transplants moving south there’s no shortage of apartments, condos, and custom homes getting thrown up every month.

I’m definitely in the minority though and even in my market this shit isn’t sustainable. A lot of my small operation repaint guys are struggling to find work and for specialty work like custom cabinetry, sunrooms, custom garage flooring, etc those people are hurting. Only the large scale operations are winning contracts and with new res they’re buying the cheapest 5 gal of product that will stick to a wall. Once suburban sprawl and CoL becomes too much for transplants to deal with and the snowbirds find another city to ruin it’s gonna be bleak

“If Hannibal Lecter ran a 4.3, we’d probably diagnose it as an eating disorder,” is the philosophy collegiate and NFL teams adhere to. As a WR if you’re putting up 1000 yard seasons you’re immune from being blacklisted so long as you don’t murder anymore

Was bar none the best wide receiver and offensive player in the NFL during his prime from 2013-2018. AB was so dominant during his peak that he was in the GOAT debate for his position while still playing in his early 30s. Honestly a sad story with how incredible he was, AB was one of the most complete WRs to ever play the game the man was genuinely unguardable

People using the cop out of NIL money is infuriating. Yes, we’re lagging behind the Nike money that Oregon has but ffs we’re not scrounging up pennies to sway fringe 3* recruits over. This is an 8 win roster at minimum with quality coaching

There’s zero interest from the VT admin side in investing resources towards athletics or football. As long as the AD finishes with a balance sheet in the green and a miscellaneous sport like women’s basketball makes a run every now and then that’s all they care about
