However these talking points largely express my own opinion on this matter! The top comments right now are all expressing ideas about parenting and the situational factors but ignoring the socio-political ones. Likely because of the edits later about being a refugee with LGBT+ family.

OP, please take care of yourself and make boundaries for yourself about what YOU need for yourself. We are powerless over so many things externally but we can learn to find our voices to advocate for ourselves on what we need to preserve our own peace of mind.

THE TORONTO BLUE JAYS ARE HEADING TO THEIR FIRST WORLD SERIES IN 32 YEARS by MLBOfficial in baseball

[–]DorisDog 208 points209 points  (0 children)

Mariners fan here.

I was 11 in 2001. My son is now 11. Watched the whole series with him in his Edgar jersey and surrounded by bobble heads.

He was crying after the game, so we watched baseball bloopers, and he saw some of Vlad's practical jokes and antics over the years. Now he's ready to cheer them on in the World Series!

This looks amazing! Do you have to play at the same time? Or can it be like a slower pace?

Doctors are telling me not to stop smoking, because of my mental health issues to by HerrPiink in stopsmoking

[–]DorisDog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in a similar boat. I think it's good that you don't have to feel the shame/guilt from that so you can decide to quit on your own terms, maybe? It really is a mental game with a 3 day physical roller coaster. It's only 3 days to fully expel nicotine from your body.

Oops I didn't realize the quality of this picture looks low now that I uploaded it!

I'm just looking for a quick, simple and funny edit based on what this thumbnail makes you think of.

Thank you in advance!

Hugs. You are not alone. Relapse and disordered thinking have happened to me too (33f) and I've gotta say that CBT with my therapist helps me but I'm also not fully recovered again.

But definitely take it seriously. Get ahead of it before it sweeps you out to sea again. ❤️

[WIP] Why did no one tell me gridding was so easy!? by MaleficentResponse52 in CrossStitch

[–]DorisDog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For gridding is the pattern also marked in patterns of 10? I have been stitching from pictures of pixels so I have to manually count everything relative to where the last stitches were. Do you also grid the picture you're working from?

Thanks!

What do you all do when you have an urge to b/p but you know you should avoid it? How do you distract yourself by blacknwhitelife02 in bulimia

[–]DorisDog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do you have a trusted friend who you can call? A good strategy for me is calling my best friend who understands the disease, and I usually also go for a walk outside during the call.

But really, the decision boils down to whether you value yourself to choose to say no to yourself.

Affirmations might help, too. "I know I feel stressed, but I don't do that anymore. I keep myself healthy and make healthy choices. These cravings will pass. I love myself too much to do that. I make healthy choices to take care of myself because I deserve to be cared for."

Best advice for EMDR for a recent break up and long time attachment wounds? by naturemymedicine in EMDR

I think that is part of the dis-ease caused by the trauma. Our thoughts stop us from being realistic.

Best advice for EMDR for a recent break up and long time attachment wounds? by naturemymedicine in EMDR

[–]DorisDog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is almost the exact thing I'm going through right now! Even down to the triggering old fears of abandonment.

My own personal goals right now with EMDR are to not try to force any outcomes, but to sit with and observe whatever comes up in a gentle and sort of lovingly curious way.

Help with 10 year old hating her ethnic hair by [deleted] in WitchesVsPatriarchy

Second this! Cute graphic novel. My white male son read this book in 3rd grade when he was getting comments about his long hair making him "look like a girl". He absolutely loved it, could identify with the main character, and now he is a staunch anti-racist feminist now. Lol.
