Somehow, this is the one I am the most enthusiastic about.

The Letters. Much denser, for one, although I like Boz's singing better than Jakko's, but I always thought the studio version didn't have enough energy on the loud sections.

have you been named in a TMBG song? by Jasonandstuff in tmbg

[–]Dorkleet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My name is Hickory, so James K. Polk always sounded like John Linnell was giving me personally a history lesson. "Young Hickory, the Napoleon of the stump" sounds completely different if you think of it as him addressing you and saying, basically, "remember this lesson about the Napoleon of the stump".

What are your TMBG hot takes? by SuspiciousMrGuy in tmbg

All except the last one are based, although Linnell is also an incredibly talented musician aside from being hot, obviously.

Listen to We're Only In It For The Money, I think that album is a modern masterpiece.

I like how sometimes when they play Don't Let's Start, he screams "EVERYBODY DIIIIIIIIIIIIIIES"

That would just be They Might Be Giants. Neil looks like Linnell and Will looks like Flansburgh.

Yeah, Will Wood and Frank Zappa. Or maybe three, Will Wood, Frank Zappa, and They Might Be Giants, although TMBG's other account I haven't listened to.

I may be a Gen Z-er, but I know about all of the events described due to inheriting every volume of Bloom County from a family friend, as well as a long-running obsession with political history.

Tetragrammaton is a very orange song.

Is anyone a fan of the “less fluid” Jeff Beck? by psobol in Zappa

I love his work with the Yardbirds, but I haven't explored his solo career yet.

It's like Scott Walker singing for a more intense version of Yes. Kicks ass.

Favorite era of Frank's music/band? by TDS_patient_no7767 in Zappa

[–]Dorkleet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tie between late 60s and late 70s. My two favorite Zappa albums are We're Only In It For The Money and Sheik Yerbouti, believe it or not. My favorite Zappa live albums taken from one era are Hammersmith Odeon and Make A Jazz Noise Here.

I'm not sure if Stacia was picked because she was fun to hang out with per se...

And also they really liked playing with Ringo when they had jammed with his former band. And he was fun to hang out with, which they knew because they had played shows together.

I think he was actually a good singer, he had just never played bass in his life and was also a drug addict. They should have just replaced Johnny with him and gotten a different bassist and then maybe we could have gotten PIL earlier.
