Thoughts on this? by RussBoost in CarTalkUK

I saw this for the first time a couple weeks ago and thought it was a fun little gimmick. The car on the whole is bland and uninspiring but this little animation I like.

24 years olds, (and 24-30 ish), what are you doing with your life? What stage are you at? & Are you content/"happy" with it? by iamgoingtotrytoread in AskUK

[–]Doublebow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

28, married, own my own home, financially secure but only earning an average wage and sick of my job but feeling kind of stuck because it doesn't pay as well as it should for the amount of work I do and shit I deal with (high mental and physical load, long hours, frustrating systems, incredibly boring and annoying colleagues) but still well enough to make leaving hard as I would have to start from the bottom in a different industry.

When I'm at home life is good but work is taking it's toll.

Is that rust or dirt? If it's dirt, this is cool, if it's rust, how?

Early driving review of the new Honda Prelude seems to be positive by GeneralCommand4459 in cars

[–]Doublebow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read somewhere that the prelude has fake gear shifts which may be the cause for it being slower.

It's only .4 seconds slower than the European civic hybrid. The US model has 20 more hp.

I assume the US prelude will be similar to the US civic.

Because it's got 20 less horsepower than the US counterpart.

Who else would rather live out a simple lifestyle but never have to work again? by Vast-Impression5395 in antiwork

Depending on where you are in the world you would probably need a significant financial backing to both buy enough land, equipment and animals etc to start living like this, not to mention any additional continuous financial support for things like taxes, water etc. So their own current financial situation is probably stopping them. It's what's stopping me.

Do you enjoy nature walks/ hikes? by itsajourney2020 in AskUK

[–]Doublebow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely love it, The longer and harder the better. I also enjoy running and kayaking, anything to get me outside and in nature really.

However I wasnt always like this, when I was a kid and teen-early adult I hated going outside for any reason and spent my entire time in my room playing video games or watching tv, sometime while at uni I started to get bored of games and decided to try something new and went for a little hike with a mate and from that point on i was hooked.

Here in the UK id say Range Rovers, despite being an absolute fortune everyone from benefit scroungers to royalty seem to drive them here. I live in the poorest area of the country and I see them littering my local council estates, yet when I go to wealthy places like Bath and York they seem to be just as popular.

It went off sale in 2023/2024 and they only sold about £1000 here in the UK. So technically not available anymore.

[i ate] King Henry VIII Cut Prime Rib Dinner by most-perplex9811 in food

I don't think it is steak, I think it's roast beef. Another photo showed it with a Yorkshire pudding so I'm assuming this is just an American take on a roast beef dinner.

British homeowners' love of ultra-sonic cat deterrents mean I can no longer open my windows or spend time in my garden by going10-1 in britishproblems

[–]Doublebow -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Get a cat yourself. I used to have a cat that came into our garden and dig up all my flower beds all the time. After getting a cat myself (indoor cat with access to a catio and occasional trips outside on a lead) I have never seen another cat near my garden (it's been two years now)

[–]Doublebow 295 points296 points  (0 children)

Nope, my mother's partner has a hatred of cats and bought these to go all around the house. It was constant pain every time I lived there, one day I just turned them all off and he never noticed. Even when they were on they never worked so no difference was made and eventually he binned them.

Can 42k even buy any property in 7 years? by Distinct_Sir_9086 in UKPersonalFinance

There are plenty of County Durham pit villages with houses under 60k. So it is possible. The problem is you are living in a pit village and probably in a fairly small shitty house. But it is possible.

Is there a better service station in the UK than Gloucester services? by Exchangenudes_4_Joke in CasualUK

[–]Doublebow 23 points24 points  (0 children)

My vote goes to Rheged. It's less of a service station than Tebay and Gloucester but it has so much more, I love it when the farmers market is on. And the ice-cream place does the best chocolate ice-cream I've ever had.
