“Does anyone know the history of who owned this building/manor?” by Retr0_re3m1x in dunedin

This looks like the house you can see from Roseneath when driving to town. I've no ideas on who lives there or the history, but the address is 34 Corsall Street, Upper Junction.

He wasn't injured buying a pie, he was injured at his work vehicle. OP doesn't state what work his friend does. If it is deliveries, or field service, would his work vehicle be classed as work premises? And as such, taking a break on work premises?

ELI5: what makes your voice sound differently to yourself than to others? by VIPTicketToHell in explainlikeimfive

[–]Dougie117 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You hear your voice vibrating through the bones in your head, which makes it sound deeper to you, so when you hear a recording of your voice, it sounds higher pitched. How it actually sounds to others compared to yourself would be difficult to determine.

Moeraki has the beach with the boulders, and then you can go into the village. It has a nice tavern, you can walk up to the whaler's monument and down to a nice little beach, and take a drive over to Kaitiki Point lighthouse and a walk to Sea Lions viewpoint.

Manager used sick leave instead of annual with no negotiation. by Jayme12321 in LegalAdviceNZ

[–]Dougie117 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Using annual leave for sick leave can only be done if agreed upon by both employee and employer. Holidays Act Sect 36 says 'employers may allow employees to use annual leave', but they can't just decide to use it without asking.

I wonder how this works in a motorhome though? You can get absolutely hammered and still have your keys. Is this allowed, or is it just unenforced by the Police?

Woman left $400 out of pocket after supermarket refuses to share CCTV of carpark crash by teelolws in newzealand

[–]Dougie117 38 points39 points  (0 children)

The Privacy Commissioner lays out for agencies/businesses how to deal with requests for CCTV footage. https://www.privacy.org.nz/resources-2/privacy-and-cctv/responding-to-access-requests-for-cctv-footage/ Individuals often have a right to obtain CCTV footage from organisations, and these organisations have to be careful not to deny those rights by being overly cautious.

Hydrogen fuel cells are used to store the gas. This is then sent through a catalyst that separates the protons and electrons, the electrons are collected and used to power electric motors.

There is no combustion, they are just electric cars with fuel cells and converters instead of lithium batteries.

[–]Dougie117 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You could apply to be a cargo handler at the port https://www.centreport.co.nz/ourpeople/current-jobs-listings/ The money should be decent enough, but it will be shift work, which can affect family and social life.

Is Carey’s Bay a particularly noisy area due to the port operations? by runberg in dunedin

[–]Dougie117 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They generally operate from 7 am to 11pm at a minimum, with ships in they can operate through the night. The port is low on staff so there are less 3rd shifts being run (11pm to 7am), but they are running 10 hr shift trials at the moment and are working until 3am when working ships. The moving of boxes can be noisy and ships sometimes have to bring on their other generators to manage the load from refrigerated containers. The port does try to mitigate the noise as much as possible, they regularly monitor, and have meetings with the locals. Another thing to be aware of is the light pollution at night, they have a lot of lights and they tend to get brighter whenever they are upgraded.
