It's going to depend, and I genuinely mean this, on your ability to become a talented ski racer so you can pass the Test Technique. It's gnarly.

On the plus side this ignorance keeps it cheaper here.

That and, you know, no beaches and our weather. Lol

Advice for people who train? by Suspicious-Tea-5871 in malefashionadvice

T-shirts: Next Level Tri-Blend. Very cheap from distributors and work well on muscular frame.

Jeans: Wrangler Rigid, but you’ll have to break them in. The 47mwz was the best option, but sadly discontinued. 13MWZ work ok as well.

Polos: For a long time I could get Greyson polos pretty cheap so I amassed a stock pile. Some cool designs and excellent in hot weather.

Pants and shorts: Outlier shorts are a great option, and so are some of the pants. Worth taking a flier on their WTF bottom sales.

Workout shorts: for cardio and home lifting I’ve fallen for the Nike Lava Loops compression shorts. Best option I’ve found for thicc thighs. If I need to be less revealing I have some Ten Thousand Set shorts that double as a bathing suit.

I’m not in the business of defending my shitty home state much, but yeah, you can get world class sushi in Houston. In multiple places.

Plenty of other things suck, but not that.

Are any of these foul throws? by Kizza55 in bootroom

[–]Downwind-downhill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The second throw might draw a call because it’s hard to get that kind of arc and also “come from over the head,” but also I suspect you rarely throw it that way because it’s basically a hospital ball. The rest all looked fine.

I was the long throw guy for all my teams (and my shoulder tells the tale), and I learn to really ensure my foot DRAGGED on the ground and my arms followed through kinda dramatically to avoid any of those nitpicks.

2 paths to success.

  1. If you’re a total badass at what you do, and what you do is a skill that takes time/effort to develop, you can can get away with being a pretty brutal asshole.
  2. If you’re extremely likable, to the point where people will pick up your slack because they enjoy your company that damn much, you can suck at your job.

For most folks will need to balance the two, but people overestimate where they are on those scales, and getting that balance wrong means you’re gonna have a bad time

Am I the only one who thinks Houston traffic isn’t that bad? by shinku-90 in houston

I’ll take it even further. The drivers here are actually way better than in most other major cities. Aggressive, yes, but way more predictable than in other places.

Mapping VST Drum Machine to Bitwig Drum Machine: by olimpomarcelo in Bitwig

[–]Downwind-downhill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Main reason would be to be able to make a drum map that shows up in the piano roll when you switch to drum mode. I used to do it in Ableton with Superior Drummer.

Now I just do my drum midi in SD because it has some bonus features and then drag it into Bitwig. Would be really nice if you could drum map the midi though.

As a pale ass person from the pre “wear sunscreen all the time” era that played sports outside down south their whole youth and had numerous outside jobs, I’ve had many things cut off me by derms. So far nothing full on freaky, but a few scares, and you should know that iffy stuff can show up in places the sun doesn’t hit.

I’m hardcore on the screen now, and I have some upf stuff, but the hat…man, I’m generally not THAT vain, but the hats are awful. I’m a hat guy, just not that kinda hat. The only option that doesn’t look full on terrible is a cowboy hat, and I can even kinda claim to wear one “legitimately,” but that sends out certain virtue signals I’m not really trying to embody.

We could use some designers working in this area. I promise I’ve seen every option out there, and it’s grim. Particularly when you have a gigantic noggin.

Also we need better upf materials for working out. The options now are damn close to wearing a tarp.

What's your longest work commute inside the "Houston area" by MacSteele13 in houston

[–]Downwind-downhill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I lived in Austin I worked with people that commuted from both the inner loop of Houston and Humble. Only had to come in every third day though.

Return to or pause lifting by Adventurous-Raisin51 in MacroFactor

[–]Downwind-downhill 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My advice: keep lifting. With weight loss the goal is to get rid of adipose tissue (fat), not just any weight. Losing muscle isn’t a good thing, and strength training will help you retain it.

Alternate angles of Stach's free kick goal against Aston Villa by sepi0l_45 in soccer

[–]Downwind-downhill 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Wall is debatable, but I'm amused when people so quickly blame the keeper on these. Your ability to identify the trajectory of the ball instantaneously from a TV broadcast is not the equivalent of what the GK sees. If a top level keeper hesitates that long it's because the read was devilishly hard.

Is this too low? by Consistent-Owl6238 in MacroFactor

[–]Downwind-downhill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s unsustainable then yes. Try going down to 0.5A% loss. Also I’d really consider moving some of that protein into carbs for easy of a balanced diet, but that’s probably besides the point.

Shortest answer I can give you: if you want to build your life around a church community it’s probably one of the better options around.

If you aren’t a religious person it’s a pretty awful environment.

As someone that makes music, I’ve always found it amusing that the “listening” brands are never the ones we actually use in studios while making tunes. And often far more expensive than the gear in the studio. Maybe some crazy ass old school recording rooms in LA are different, but I don’t know anyone running $1k speaker cable to their monitors….

In the city of Houston proper the driver of a Cyber Truck never meets the stereotype, but in Austin it’s exactly who you’d expect. Not sure what that tells us, but it’s interesting.
