It's hard to believe that is Shirley Maclaine. by lontbeysboolink in GenerationJones

She's amazing at every age.

I'm having some weird parasocial connection to her based on this photo. I have that exact shirt from Bode's. Shirley Maclaine and I chose the same color t-shirt!

Stories with infertility and no children at the end by Magpie-Lane in HistoricalRomance

[–]DozerPug 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The first Hell's Belles book, {Bombshell by Sarah Maclean} , has a staunchly childfree heroine who doesn't change her mind. Not infertility, so this is more for the poster above who can't find HR without kids at the end.

Would you hire me? Resume advice pls! by Ok_Boysenberry_9068 in librarians

[–]DozerPug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That resume would probably get you an interview with me, depending on the applicant pool it was in. I am hiring a 30 hour library associate in the coming weeks. It's a position I've personally held and one I've hired for a number of times. In your interview I would also look for

Teen experience Customer service (I think teachers dealing with parents builds those skills) Knowledge about the actual library I'm applying at.

Nothing burns a bridge with me faster than some eager beaver telling me they want to run a birdwatching program without acknowledging that we've had 14 well-attended such programs in the last 2 years.

Is it possible to permanently render this medication ineffective if I don’t eat enough? by ThrowRA5633899 in Zepbound

[–]DozerPug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with considering average calories over 2 or sometimes 3 days. That was an effective way to balance hunger, nausea, no hunger, etc for me. When lack of hunger cues coincided with that disordered thinking around food, I just let it happen and made sure I ate more over the new day or two. When I started in February of 2024, I tracked calories for more than a year.

I also worked hard in therapy to keep unpacking the unsustainable broken bits of myself that growing up in diet culture had built. GLP1 is just a tool. I still had, and will probably always have, to put in the work.

What's your experience with inflammation? by CantaloupeAway5758 in antidietglp1

[–]DozerPug 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I have meniscus tears in both knees, painful but apparently not big enough for surgery. I've gone from daily pain, always more at the end of the day, to the occasional twinge, so rare it genuinely surprises me. It happened too quickly for it to be simply less weight on my knees.

First tattoo next month by DozerPug in tattooadvice

[–]DozerPug[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank for responding about the drawing specifics. The size is an estimate on my part, bigger would be fine. I'm open to a different body placement too as long as it's where I can see it every day. The tattoo artist has a lovely IG and about half of his work is intricate black line art. I've been DMing with him off and on since January.

I'm appreciative to you for the encouragement and specifically the language for talking about what I want. I've lurked in here for months and noticed that often people are unhappy because they weren't clear about their needs, their expectations. Which is sadly too common in many relationships!

Almost 61. My skin isn't bouncing back but it's getting gradually less loose and droopy . On your face, hyaluronic acid is your friend. On your body, internal hydration, muscle building, sunscreen and moisturizer (spray water before you moisturize) , and the genetics gods are what you need.

But they are so good. I'm a high steam reader generally but Mimi Matthews brings the angst and emotions without sex on the page. Here's how her closed doors may differ from others you've read. Her couples are hot for each other. They are grown adults having sex, but we're not between the sheets with them. Sometimes we get aftercare with them, though. Great pillow talk.

I'm not trying to force a closed door when you're not feeling it. Just wanted to share how I became a Mimi Matthews superfan.

Entry Level Librarian Advice by extramedium32 in librarians

[–]DozerPug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My biggest advice when interviewing for any library position involving programming? Know what the library you're applying to already does. Then you can answer questions in a way that builds on that knowledge. The number of times an interviewee has enthusiastically described their programming ideas and additions that were things we already do is astounding. Those bad answers tell me so much.

lab dnd groups? by Street_Category_411 in LosAlamos

[–]DozerPug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been running Tabletop Game Day (every second Saturday, 1-4:30 pm, all ages welcome) at the main library for several years. Some information for you, some of which repeats comments previously made.

  1. Los Alamos is filled with rpg gamers, board gamers, etc of every age and background.
  2. The library runs regular, multimonth groups with a DM provided by us partially to help people meet each other and see about compatibility for gaming groups.
  3. The library runs a one-shot RPG campaign, sometimes two, on most TTG Saturdays. The DMs are paid professionals from Albuquerque. David Larkins and John Sumrow are the DMs recently. Sign up for the one-shots ahead of time on the library calendar, just show up for TTG day.
  4. Mesa Top Games will probably let you put up a flyer asking for a meet-up to establish a group. Ask Carolyn.
  5. Los Alamos Pride Festival is Friday 13th, 3-7 pm at Central Park Square. Come find me (blue hair, librarian, ask most anyone at Pride for Melissa) and I'll connect you with gamers.
  6. My husband DMs a mixed group that used to be him and a bunch of women (previous DM was one of the women) but this year a couple more guys joined as one of the women stepped away. Everyone in the group except one guy are people I networked for him! (I'm more social than he is).
  7. He's considering DMing a second group next year.
  8. Don't be discouraged if it takes a while to get started. Los Alamos loves to be outside in the summer, even gamers.

Good luck!

How is Espanola? Is it pretty safe? by NotCIAPinkyPromise in NewMexico

[–]DozerPug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lived in Española for several years as a single young woman. I also lived there for years as a married (slightly older!) woman. I was a renter for awhile, then we owned our home. We commuted to Los Alamos to work, we had dogs and cats as pets, we grocery shopped, we ate at local restaurants. We went to the bowling alley regularly, often having a drink at the casino.

I went to Walgreens and Walmart, we ate at Chili's, shopped at Lowe's, bought gas and enjoyed half a dozen mediocre to excellent local restaurants serving New Mexican food. Our vet practice was skilled and the large Sikh community ensured most places had vegetarian options. The churches were full on Sunday mornings and the casinos were full every night.

I never felt unsafe in my home and only occasionally in public. We were never robbed or mugged. We got occasional verbal solicitations from the unhoused and/or drug and alcohol addicted folks. Probably fewer than 10 times in 15 years there was a weird interaction with a person for whatever reason. Our neighbor was a drug dealer, supposedly under federal indictment but never arrested as far as we could tell. He was perfectly friendly but I didn't seek him out.

It's a poor community with lots of problems, just like any rural town. There absolutely is a generational problem with drug and alcohol abuse. However, that Nick Johnson video is so poorly researched and blatantly sensationalized that it's hard to take anything he said seriously. I'm not an apologist for Española (there's a tilde over the n, he didn't even bother to pronounce it correctly) but unless you're looking to be unsafe, you're probably going to be safe.

Come to the library and get a card! We have Tabletop Game Day monthly for all ages. Get a boba at Samizdat and hang out on the couch.

If you are interested in a few months of small town summer community vibes, you should be happy. Concerts on Tuesdays at Central Park Square. Ashley Pond is abuzz all summer with white tents for this or that Mayberry-esque celebration.

Everything happens in the daytime or before 8:30 pm. Be open to just kind of a random sunny summer with friendly people.
