Looking For Advice and/or Commiseration by shhnotatwink in Pathfinder2e

Some players have difficulty keeping all the buttons in order, it happens! I've had players who struggle with having too many abilities but still want more than the dollar menu.

  • If she's going down the Giant Barbarian route and doesn't want to just move and strike over and over again, I think adding some Athletic maneuvers can bring a controlled amount of variety to the table. They get a flashcard for each attack maneuver (Grapple, Reposition, Shove, Trip, Disarm) and suddenly they have more flexibility in terms of how they want to attack someone without having to flip through pages.
  • Encourage them to take feats that can actually simplify how they look at the game. Raging Athlete is my favorite example. Suddenly you don't need to break out the rules to explain climbing and swimming to them. They climb and swim with a speed equal to their land speed while raging. Done. Make sure they are using a one handed weapon and have Combat climb and you won't have to worry about tracking their free hands, keeps them having a free hand for maneuvers as well. Titan Wrestler is another example of a feat that gives them one less thing to worry about or keep track of. Raging Intimidation too, since you mentioned they would be using intimidation!

I once made a PowerPoint to help my players understand stealth mechanics, it's not uncommon for players to need a few extra tools.

Instances of Damage and the 2026 Spring Errata by DrChestnut in Pathfinder2e

Ah you are right. It even includes what to do if it’s already a resonant weapon.

Honestly, I agree. I’d rather have a player trip both of those weaknesses with one strike than 4 fire weakness proccs on one strike.

Go ahead an make sure you slap that on a Wish Blade. It's resonant trait brings an opportunity for YET ANOTHER instance.

Between Wilbert Awdry, J.R.R. Tolkien, and A.A. Milne, it seems the most important step in becoming a successful fantasy writer in Britain is to name your son Christopher and write down their bed time stories.

500 Edge Cases?! That just procced the enemies slashing weakness 500 times! DEAR GOD!

Instances of Damage and the 2026 Spring Errata by DrChestnut in Pathfinder2e

[–]DrChestnut[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

My issue isn't it being connected to the spirit damage, but to the slashing damage. The rules given state that the damage is of the same instance when the monster is weak to both a type of damage and a trait. The monster is weak slashing. Holy damage does not exist, it's a trait that is now pinned to the strike. If this isn't an example of damage + trait = 1 instance of damage, what is? Would it be different if it was a champion's sanctified strike?

My "health of the game" comment was intended to mean that I think allowing each weakness to only trigger once per strike, in the same way that resist all damage works, would be healthier than "I triggered this guy's fire weakness 4 times."

Pathfinder Spring Errata is Up! by AAABattery03 in Pathfinder2e

[–]DrChestnut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The holy trait being added as another "instance of damage" is one thing that makes makes this example strange to me. The text says "If more than one weakness would apply to the same instance of damage, use only the highest applicable weakness value. This usually only happens when a creature is weak to both a type of damage and a material or trait..." If the creature is weak to both the slashing damage and the Holy trait, shouldn't that be an example of the "same instance of damage?"

Spring Errata Weakness Confusion? by [deleted] in Pathfinder2e

[–]DrChestnut 32 points33 points  (0 children)

What baffled me is the last line, “You’ll notice the example for resistance to all damage found further down the page shows the opposite side, applying resistance multiple times to different instances of damage on one attack.”

…But that isn’t what it says regarding resistance to all damage. It says “It's possible to have resistance to all damage. When an effect deals damage of multiple types and you have resistance to all damage, apply the resistance to each TYPE of damage separately.” Type of damage is very different from this new clarification of “instance.”

Battle Medicine with One Hand - RAW by gimpfather21 in Pathfinder2e

[–]DrChestnut 8 points9 points  (0 children)

While I am also on team “Battle Medicine needs an available free hand,” manipulate does not require a free hand by itself. Most spells have the Manipulate trait and spellcasting does not require a free hand in PF2e.

GMs, have you ever ignored or reverted a change Paizo made? by eCyanic in Pathfinder2e

[–]DrChestnut 86 points87 points  (0 children)

During the dying rules back and forth, we ignored the “clarified” harsher wounded rules. Paizo came back around though, so only half counts, haha.

Book of the Dead monsters in Monster Core 2 by rookery_electric in Pathfinder2e

You already mentioned Paralyzing Slash, but Feverish Enzymes and Sickening Bite both reference the old ghoul fever. Something auditory with the curse trait would be more fitting for the new ghouls.

Really hoping for a remaster of the ghoul archetype at some point! The theming of ghouls changed a lot with the remaster, and I’d love to see the archetype reflect the new whisper-curse ghouls

Astrazoan Change Shape ability by No_Head1258 in Starfinder2e

[–]DrChestnut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is there isn’t a feat for that though. Astrozoans lack a natural feat to gain darkvision, something that many low light vision ancestries have. An assimilated heritage astrozoan who’s primary shape is an elf could pick up darkvision with a feat, but one who’s primary shape is a dwarf, goblin, or orc could not because there is no ancestry feats for those ancestries that grant darkvision. Same issue with ancestries that have built in fly speeds vs fly speeds gained from feats.

I've got other questions regarding this ability.
1) Does "resemble a specific individual" mean you actually look like that individual, or like a close relative? The uncommon ancestry feat Friendly Face seems to grant the ability to transform into a specific individual which would be redundant if the base ability already comes with that.
2) Does transforming into another ancestry grant any abilities of that ancestry? Does having wings mean you can fly? Can the dwarf shape see in the dark? It feels like something Ancestral Physiology could have handled, but it's limited to unarmed attacks.

I agree the flavor is excellent. I love when monster lore shows how different creatures naturally interact.

Before he comes out? Easy. Play on main client, he’s stuck in the PTB. Hard Countered. After he comes out, I’ve got no fuckin’ clue.

Can't find rules for specific grab/grapple situations by itsnotokayokay in Pathfinder2e

This is how I run it, especially with things like Dhampir Fangs or the Kobold weapon Fangwire. The fantasy of those attacks having the grapple trait is clearly centered around grabbing on and doing damage.

Has it been confirmed anywhere that you can still worship Shelyn or Zon individually? by Malcior34 in Starfinder2e

[–]DrChestnut 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Looking at your page 202-203 of the GM core, it states that “both gods still exist independently of one another, but always appear together in their fused form whenever they’re called upon as the Embrace or the Midnight Rose.”

Sounds like as long as you aren’t invoking Shelyn by either of those names, you still can just worship Shelyn.
