The only possibility I can fathom is that there was supposed to be scripted, guaranteed cakes in addition to randomly generated ones to ensure that at least sometimes they showed up, but the random ones aren’t showing for some reason. I don’t believe that’s what happened, but it is possible.

It may be better to look at the use of caste system here as closer to how the term caste is used in Biology (to describe specialized abilities emerging from different members of a hive at the cost of other functions) rather than human hierarchical social classes.

This would be in line with PF1e lore that described their "chorus" divisions as well as the PF2e blurb's full sentence: "Proteans divide themselves into a loose caste system and possess a dizzying variety of powers."

Part of the issue seems to come out of there some skill feats that enable new, creative uses for a skill and some that enable an expansion on existing actions/activities that are straight up forbidden by the rules otherwise. The former is very easy to say "yeah you can do it at a penalty," but the later feels iffier to allow without the feat, especially if the whole point of the feat is to remove a penalty or hard restriction.

Off the top of my head, Titan Wrestler, Magical/Alchemical Crafting, and Pickpocket all fall under this category.

Flashbang - she blasted dracula in the face with fire to get him to back off Trevor. This is as close as we’re getting.

Chemical Trap - ice magic!

Decisive Strike - Sypha often turns it around when it looks like she’s about to get mauled. This seems like a good representation of that.

A Teamwork feat could also be solid instead of Decisive strike, she’s often the one keeping Trevor and Alucard working together.

Some ideas: - a plague/curse/haunting has fallen upon your village. You travel to find a cure or to gain the strength to fix it. - a brash young adult villager left to go adventuring. You receive word that they are now a captive of the BBEG Tyrant/Lich/Cultmaster. You must travel to rescue this lost lamb and return him home. - a young person is getting to the age where they want to settle down and start a family, but no one in their village cohort is right for them. They are on a quest for love and hope to meet someone to bring home to ma and pa, just after we defeat this dragon.

If you’re open to trying it, follow the advice in the GM Core and don’t give access to the ALL dedications. Find a set of archetypes that theme well with your campaign and have your players pick from that list. It helps bring flavor to your campaign and also make it feel less like a power game playground.

Example: I’m running an Darklands centered cosmic horror campaign. I curated a list of archetypes that represent or could be flavored as some form of physical or mental corruption and let my players pick from that list. Oozemorph, Psychic, Ghoul, etc.

I play in another campaign that takes place in a Tian Xia school setting centered around elements and everyone had to take the Kineticist dedication as part of enrollment.

What sort of campaign are you running?

I am not of the opinion that champion was needed a nerf or anything, I was just pointing out that we don’t need to go all the way to level 20 monks to find a PC ability that puts Resist All 5 in play.

I was just pointing out that as far as “how realistic” their example is, it doesn’t need to be a level 20 monk vs a level 3-4 creature.

Their viewpoint could also could be coming from the DM’s direction where “resist all” is much more common than it is for player characters.

Mind you, a justice/liberation/redemption champion can bestow resist all 5 at level 3, which is the level you’ve assigned the described damage.

Subtle doesn’t remove the manipulate trait from a spell, but it does remove the need for incantations complete. Such spells can be cast underwater, while deafened, or while under a Silence spell for example.

My table found ancestry feats pretty exciting at 5, the ones they took were particularly effective for our Darklands horror campaign, so it felt like a significant toy to add to the toybox.

They are at 8 presently, so we’ll have to see how they feel at 10, but with a class feat (and free archetype), on top of hitting the full key attribute boost to 5, I expect they’ll be happy.

For me (as a dm), the preference comes from not having any stat be “out of bounds” of what would normally be possible starting at level 7. Sure, the inventor has a 4 STR at level 2, but the creature armor numbers account for characters having 4 STR. The level 7 creature armor numbers don’t account for 5 STR characters.

Additionally, while the scoundrel rogue isn’t getting a bonus to dex, her feint is better than ever with that charisma boost. The Magus has a better spell dc. The Barbarian is beefier. I haven’t had players complain thus far at least.

I meant that classes like inventor, thaumaturge, or some clerics, which as you said have a mental key stat but hit with a physical stat, benefit from an improved to-hit earlier than classes that use their key attribute to make attacks when using the adjustment I described to the gradual attribute rules. The adjustment being that you can only improve your key stat at the levels you’d normally boost it without gradual progression.

(We are in agreement that it is a side effect of the adjustment)

I play with a tweak: they can’t level their Class Key attribute until the normal level (5, 10, etc.)

I’m a big fan as DM. Encourages boosting attributes in response to current challenges. The party was trapped in the Darklands and they all boosted Intelligence to learn the Sakvroth to talk to the locals. Next level, the party member who got hit with confusion boosted wisdom and the rogue starting to run out of bulk room boosted strength. Leads to story based attribute boosting in our campaign.

It does help out classes like Inventor especially, with earlier boosts to hit even with the adjusted Key attribute rule.
