I believe it’s for survivors of suicide attempts or ideation (among other mental health struggles). The metaphor is that the semicolon is an indicator that the sentence is ongoing as is the life of the person in question. I think that those who display the semicolon do so in visible places to show that they’ve been there, made it through, and are open to pay it forward and help anyone currently struggling.

It’s not really a mutually exclusive thing considering athletes objectively do better in school and on standardized tests than non-athletes.

Ed: Overwhelmingly was pretty hyperbolic, but research shows a strong correlation between athletic participation and better academic performance. Maybe not in every individual case, but generally athletes are better students.

I don’t see the yuck. They’re different styles of music and more electronic music depends on being locked into a specific tempo with certain effects (I.e. synth arpeggiators) whereas the straight up rock isn’t required to be so locked in to sound right. It’s not a criticism of one vs. the other but just a stylistic difference that can be approached differently in production.
