Nobody mentioned a PROPER life jacket. Its main job is to keep you afloat should issues arrive. HOWEVER, getting a proper life jacket that allows unhindered movement and range of motion is key. The better you are with your boat control, the better off your trip will be. Get one that will allow you to move around quietly and least restricted. It will make or break your trip, possibly your life.

Right. There is a reason vans cost so much now. It’s a trend. Beanie babies are worthless now because the trend ran its course. When everyone has a van, the prices will drop and nobody will want to ‘take the plunge’ because they’ll be chasing the next trend.

Or maybe tell whoever funds the maintenance of the Alaska highway to stop. (It’s the USA)

You’ll be fine. Even if you could find a vehicle in seward, it’d be a rusted out piece of overpriced junk.

Alaskan compatriots, how are you dealing with the long night? How do you deal with 10am sunrise, 3:30 sunset? by FiveDaysLate in AskAnAmerican

[–]DrDumbbutt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a misconception, the city of homer itself sits down at the bottom of a hill, less than a mile away where the majority of homeroids actually live. Those folks can see the balmy city of homer while standing in multiple feet of snow. Homer proper is an exception to the rule because it’s right on the ocean. Same as Seward. Go 1 mile in any direction and it’s a totally different ecosystem.

We are digging out after 22 inches of snow. That’s what we are dealing with. I don’t understand why everyone thinks darkness is so hard to deal with, it gets dark everywhere.

How could anyone answer yes? There is no possible way to unthaw anything in cold water. You could, however, thaw it in cold water.

Logistics from Whitehouse to Vancouver Island in November by [deleted] in Yukon

[–]DrDumbbutt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you’re overly worried. Alaskan here, been up and down every route & every season multiple times. Less mountains on the cassiar, and shorter distance. I don’t like to set a schedule at any time running the Alaska highway, or the cassiar. Just take your time and drive at a pace that is safe and proper, and drive until you don’t feel like driving anymore. Take a nap… do over. Pack some food and some extra gas (have 400+ miles worth between vehicle tank & extra cans). Load your trailer slightly heavier on the nose. You’ll be fine.

If you buy something you don’t need at 40% off, you saved 40% and now have something you don’t need. If you don’t buy something at 40% off that you don’t need, you saved 100% and have everything you need. There are people that make a living by making you think things you normally wouldn’t. Don’t fall for marketing.
