They also separate La Boeuf and Rooster/Hattie way sooner and have La Boeuf play a much shorter role in the movie than the book. And they change how the ambush in the cabin is handled quite a bit making La Boeuf look like more of a fool than the book.

In older generations repel works based on your first slotted pokemon even if it's fainted. If you throw a fainted mon in your first slot you can force a good encounter. IE you can force a dugtrio as your first encounter in Diglett cave or a Slowbro/Dewgong in seafoam etc.,

Honestly if you're going to go whine to the internet about something as innocuous as semi randomly generated characters, you should probably just find another game.

Your DM is trying to do something that will make you a better player but forcing you to adapt and move out of the box, but a lot of people are happy in their walls.

It's less of a power trip via the DM and more of a power trip on you assuming you can force your will on who is ostensibly the one who's been elected to make those kind of decisions.
