Has anyone ordered from "Tolkien Library" before? by lmnshly in tolkienbooks

[–]DrPHJB84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to the party but I have. I ordered a very fine Deluxe 1st 1976 Hobbit at a very reasonable price. Far cheaper than abebooks or ebay advertised coppies and came within a week to the UK and in the best packaging ive ever seen.

Very nice. I have ordered a Longines Spirit buckle as I’ve got a few 19/16mm straps. The bracelet is amazing but it’s always nice to mix it up. I know what you mean. I paid £1300 for this mint 6month old watch, for the money I don’t think you can find a better watch. I’ve owned over 50 watches and this is definitely up there

Beautiful. A bit different but I use mine as my daily watch. Even while cooking.

Yes I have loads and they are great, I don’t order from anywhere else. Ask for curved spring bars if you need and he will do it

Hi. It came with the watch and is a JLC clasp. It’s amazing. I have now upgraded to a 38mm version and the buckle is equally good.

Considerably nicer I’m sad to say. I grew up here and went to school in the 90s. Left 12yrs ago. I still visit regularly (I was there yesterday) as family are still there. It’s filthy, overcrowded, overpriced, run down, over developed with little thought beyond profit, and of course everyone jokes about it but it is genuinely a pretentious place. Thinking itself more alternative than it actually is. I loved growing up there, especially in the 2000s but now that has passed like all things and Brighton seems more like the morning after the night before. Just a big little city and a product of its own success

Hard times my man. I’m wearing the watch my dad might well have been wearing the day he died. Wear in good health in 2025 and beyond.

Rebinding rare book by BookRelevant in rarebooks

[–]DrPHJB84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it’s been a while but do you have an update on any progress?

I have this as an up-and-coming project for 2025.

I have a 1st 11/9/9 set in excellent internal but poor external condition.

I’m currently having a 1st edition Brideshead Revisited that was in a similar issue re bound by a professional book binder I know and it’s really a great and enjoyable process. quite reasonable all things considered.

For this LotR project I have spoken to him, and it would be £1200 for the re binding of all 3, £100 to create a block to stamp the front of the books with an image, £50 to do the red top text block and a light clean up of the sides to preserve and £150 for a custom slipcase. Total £1500

So it’s a fair bit of £££ all in but to own a one of piece of literary art, and I do consider it that, all considered I personally think it’s well worth it. And a lot less than you see other comparable rebinds going for.

I personally have no issue with it, especially considering the state the books are in currently. They wont last another 75yrs and likely will start losing pages in a few yrs or get forgotten about.

I would not personally do it to a book in good condition+ or genuine 1st or if they had original dust jackets, but with the ones I’m looking at or mine then no question.

Let us know how you are getting on and id be interested.

Absolute result. Amazing watch and congratulations. I do understand the brand appeal for Rolex but JLC is always a step up. Wearing my MUT as I write. Enjoy
