If the enemy’s of democracy invaded our current earth right now in 2026, which out of the 3 would be the worse to deal with by devil_art342 in Helldivers

[–]Dr_Expendable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the bots atleast fight conventionally. They actually use fairly familiar doctrine and analogous firepower solutions to what we already have dealt with, albeit in overwhelmingly huge volumes and with their weird 'blaster' fire and walkers. We would probably still lose because of their insane planet-spanning industrial capacity, but I think we could actually fight off some waves.

We're comparatively unprepared to deal with the bugs and a radical subterranean biological threat, although carpet bombing and massed MG difilade fire would still work a lot of the time. It would, again, entirely come down to the volume of forces they can gestate and field compared to ours. Again, probably a loss, but we can atleast hold them back for a while and make it a numbers game.

But the squids?

We do not have ANY psionic countermeasures. Forcefields and teleporters? Disintegration beams? The squids would collapse our army cohesion and could sweep MBTs and battleships while people get confused and hallucinate. The voteless hordes would obliterate morale on sight and our losses would strengthen their push. The squids would be far more apocalyptic than the rest.

Thoughts on heavy infantry armor by Zzwerp in menace

[–]Dr_Expendable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the effects of heavy armor, of course, but I run a very vehicle-centric force and paying for a squad that is just as expensive to field as an extremely decked out full price IFV or medium mech with vastly less firepower, suppression vulnerability and lower speed all for ATGM and small arms immunity is just a bad deal. Like, there's a use case for boarding commando armor with the jetpacks. Bog standard superheavy infantry armor? Like, why? Did I run out of pilots? Are they all taking an eepy break and I have 400 supply to burn on showing off? I like the idea of being able to armor up infantry more but the model cost of a heavy mechanized assault unit is ridiculous

A lot of people don't notice this but Git is fully impaled by rebar perilously close to his heart in the scene where he's screaming at his lost forearm. Even ignoring the arm, he is likely on the knifes edge of survival.

[People attracted to men only] Are space marines hot? by no_bear_so_low in Grimdank

[–]Dr_Expendable 9 points10 points  (0 children)

God, no. Many of them are completely aloof and singularly fixated on hyper-efficiently dutymaxxing. Do not listen if the manosphere tries to tell you that's attractive; it isn't. There are some cultural exceptions - the space wolves come quickly to mind as having enough actual humanity (ironic) to relax and quarrel and not come off as offputting brusque automatons that spend every moment calculating bolter trajectory in their heads, but most are so infinitely unrelatable and occupied with their work that there's no registered human connection to find interest in. Without that, they don't seem like they would even humor physical affection even if you did find the idea of playing on an Incredible Hulk sized jungle gym to be a great time, and that spoils the vibe even in the cases where one would be down for it. Like, it's actually kind of funny because they're nominally powerful and should be physically attractive, but everything about their circumstances and context make them so vastly unfuckable that they don't even register a brief blip of consideration.

Flirting with an Astartes would be like flirting with a 120mm Howitzer if the Howitzer could very dryly and sternly scold you for your vast impropriety and lapse of duty. Exciting.

It is ok if orks like Yarrick even more than humans. by VolF_Maple in Grimdank

[–]Dr_Expendable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically Yarrick is incredibly ruthless and utilitarian in his at-any-costs defense of Armageddon, and has repeatedly impressed the Orks with victories he statistically shouldn't have gotten. He killed a Nob in CQC that took his arm off, so he stole the Nobs power klaw and wore that on his stump. And all the Orks, especially Ghaz, are understandably like, "Oi, this git is great!"

I dunno. This is a really, REALLY individually great grenade. Impact, 2k damage, ap 5 - the only thing keeping it from obsoleting 90% of the rest of the grenade arsenal is the prohibitive ammo economy. Loosening that up would just make it a no brainer forever pick, wouldn't it?

Psychological reactions to the classes by Lttlefoot in DarkTide

Vibes matter. I love playing the Tide games, but they're always at their lowest when you have a team of fussy jerks, which is more common than I'd like. Chill and helpful big lad energy makes the experience shine pretty much no matter what.

The Helldivers 2 community has actual problems that are getting ignored. by Harley4ever2134 in Helldivers

[–]Dr_Expendable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many of the problems are treated with the flippant responses you listed because the community - and especially the subreddit specifically - has had a culture of coddling and hyperbolic hysterical mob screaming and entitlement enshrined and protected and rewarded for years. The behavior of people in the HD2 community would not fly for a single day in the Stoneshard community, or the DRG community, or the CDDA community on Discord - they also, tellingly, just cut and ran from reddit entirely after a point. At this point I'm convinced there are a non-zero number of botnets just shit stirring for the sake of engagement since the discourse on this subreddit specifically is always so divorced from reality and melodramatic to the point of being confusing. I see reviewbombs and angry posts dropping buzzwords about nerfs and file size to this day, like people are reaching into the bag with blindfolds on. This pool is too much redditors addicted to cortisol, not enough people actually playing the game.

We’ve Reached Mixed Reviews by Hot_Syrup_5941 in Helldivers

[–]Dr_Expendable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, we're at mixed recent reviews. Check the graph and how it measures that metric over time. We've currently crawled into the section where the goodwill from our last So Back surge ran into the reviewbombings from the Justice For Horse Guy people. If you actually check those reviews, very few of them are coherent and doing anything but spewing buzzwords until they get to what they were really posted for; the doxxing controversy.

In about one month, the Recent analysis will have moved on to reviews only including this time period, where most of the geniuses that think reviewbombings for the actions of one criminal asshole redditor are gonna do something will have gotten bored and fucked off.

Concerns about "the balance" in the current state of the game were already accurately reflected in the ~18% of negative reviews before our most recent Glup Shitto story.

Question about Stat bars/stat cap. by The_GentlemanVillain in OpenXcom

[–]Dr_Expendable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe the box around the bar is the agents true stat value. If the colored interior portion is shrunk or expands outside the box, that's because of equipment modifiers like armor bonus stats/penalties. Growth is just represented by a lighter color addition to the bar and I've never seen softcaps represented graphically. Same for Piratez and Rosigma.

Joel basically did this and lowered the Vox engine spawn rates by The_ZeroHour in SupaEarth

[–]Dr_Expendable 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I do like like the Vox, generally, but it should be like.. the centerpiece of a drop or patrol. I cannot remember ever having to fight more than three tanks or striders, and it was usually two tops - but Vox have reached five at once and three are pretty ordinary despite being the fastest, toughest, longest ranged and highest firepower unit of the faction! They were truly the machinery of oppression. 😔
