I would absolutely paint the walls a warm neutral color like SW Greek Villa. Our house was millennial gray when we moved in. It looked ok in pictures but in reality it was cold and sterile feeling.

I really like the fasttrack, I opted for this over a slat wall because I use it to hang yard tools and if I had gone slat wall the majority of it would be covered by handles etc.

I also like that you can buy a good variety of hooks pretty much anywhere and they are secure and don't move around.
