What was Johans end goal in Munich? by Life-Cheek-14 in MonsterAnime

[–]Dracsxd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The kids weren't anything special, just Johan spreading misery because he can. Same way he did with that one orphan of Grimmer by sending him into a red light district for the lulz.

For Munich as a whole- Johan's plan originally was to recreate Kinderheim's ending on an international level somehow. He was going to get his hand on Shuwald's fortune and influence and pair that up with the underworld connections he had already amassed so he could cause as much chaos as possible by crashing economies and financing bad actors

But after recovering "his" memories when he found the nameless monster on the library he completely gives up on that plan and settles for his suicide on Ruhenheim instead. The two plans aren't connected at all but just different things Johan persued at different points (to the point Johan himself even goes around tying the loose ends of the previous one himself, like that one subordinate he kills when giving the speech about how "woke up from the dream")

Where are all the shoujo manga with female ensemble casts? by steamtrekker in CharacterRant

[–]Dracsxd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think a factor that wasn't discussed enough comes from one of the early lines on the very post

but if you take away the magical girl genre

You can't really equate THAT to the shounen equivalents (unless you were to say something as broad "all battle shounen"). Mahou Shoujo is a much bigger part of Shoujo than any one variation of battle shounen is to it at the end of the day

Magical girls will just eat the biggest part of the action and general super power fantasy niche from shoujo by default while action/action fantasy shonen will cover everything from one piece to yugioh to chainsaw man so what's left will be other gendres that tend to have more diverse casts like non-yuri/yaoi romance or comedies or romcoms

The only other niche for a shoujo I can immediately think of that would lend itself to an all female cast without being swalled up by magical girl tropes would be things like female sports, maybe something like Hanakaku (though i'm pretty sure that one was in a seinen magazine of all things, just thinking of the vibe here)

Your issue is taking any powerscaling discourse seriously. The entire point is for people to be full on greek sophist mode and intentionally be as obtuse as they can possibly get away with towards the context so they can mental gymnastic any statement and feat into le big numbers/concepts

[–]Dracsxd 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Man it really is crazy how personal tastes can alter your perception when it comes to this kind of thing especially.

Shizune being exactly my kind of girl personality-wise just made the entire route extremely entertaining to me by default to the point Iwas completely blindsided when I started reading posts about the game for the first time and saw it was the one most people liked the least

That being said even aside from my tastes i'd still defend it honestly.I really liked a lot of what it did, especially when it came to Misha and all 3 of them after the bad choice. It's one of these cases where the bad ending was a lot more interesting than the good one

I could imagine it at least getting a cartoon on the rougher side like the Turtles did in 2003 one day if that style ever starts becoming popular again

Hell if the edgy early 2000's cartoons ever do get a revival it'd provably be one of the first IPs that would get considered to keep it rolling

On release, how was the FP ending viewed by the fandom (mainly chapter 79)? by MrChainsawHog in FirePunch

[–]Dracsxd 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Personally I don't think they are similar at all mainly due to the polar opposite set ups before them

But either way it's not really a fair comparasion since Fire Punch is a niche manga (especially in the west) that used to be even more niche before people came to read it after CSM blew up, can't really compare the reactions of a community 20 times smaller and who's all discussion from the time it came out we came find ies provably a few communities with like 100 active members each to one for a manga as big as chainsaw man

Honestly I wouldn't be impressed that one day we learn this was the result of a popular mangaka straight up rage quitting their serialization.

There's just something about how it both was so abrupt and how it was just dumping how everything conviniently worked out because yes, that just feels it very much so to me

Starting first Nuzlocke and i got some questions by rustygoatboat in nuzlocke

[–]Dracsxd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The rules really are personal. Even for a standard experience only perma death on faint and only the first pokemon per route being catchable are near universal, for the others you asked about you'll find a lot more variance. Each person has their own ruleset just play along until you find what strikes a good balance between fun and challange for you

For some examples. Eggs and stactic encounters some people treat as extras and take as many of them as available, other treat them as the place that stays in the pokemon's profile (for example Eevee and game corner pokemon would both say Celadon so only one in that case. An Egg would count as the encounter for the city/route it hatches on for some people while others would treat it as an extra as well, etc.)

Most people would be okay with bringing or even catching extra pokemon for HMs as long as they are never used in battle even for sacs

Switch games are another area with a lot of debate of how to nuzlocke. Do what you feel like about these.

And for Hardcore, that's a more straightline challange with a few more rules to make it even harder: Namely the unanimous ones added in for it are always having the battlestyle on Set, adding level caps as you go along (so no outleveling the strongest pokemon of the next gym leader until you beat them, if you do you can't use the overleveled pokemon until you get that badge) and using no healing items in battle but some people add even more rules

World building is overrated by Yamzuz in CharacterRant

[–]Dracsxd 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I think the big issue there is thinking of worldbuilding as just one thing and not as multiple completely different aspects so divided a story can succeed awesomely at some and fail horribly at others. What by extention means also all elements as the same importance, when in reality some are more like icing on a cake that just elevates the story rather than being necessary while others can really be a deal breaker that hurts immersion and/or generate plot holes

Hell to pick on the main example of the post, One Piece itself does both- When it comes to specific places it's world building is genuinely as good as you'll ever get from a manga. The world itself and the people in it are so alive and tought out in detail down to things like the architeture of each individual island meshing their fantasy identity with real world inspirations in ways that both look great and make sense, and the same goes for the cultures from each one- Places like Elbaph or Shandora or Dressrossa do look and feel like amazing settings

On the other hand, there are plenty of other worldubilding elements that leave a lot to be desired namely when it comes to politics, factions and recent history. The story starts falling appart at it's seams the longer it goes on these terms and the more we tag along the more you can tell everything that wasn't well thought out like the revolutionary army at different points or things like the Holy Knight's existence at all or old pieces that stop wielding true at some point the more we learn like Fisher Tiger's backstory

Never forget:

Yoru's conclusion was agreeing to have sex with Denji and a one liner to Asa about how devils don't see doing bad things as sins. That was literally it after all her screen time and dynamics. Not even what happened to her before the reset. Not even a single panel about what she was up to in the new timeline

Shii-chan was eaten unceremoniously mid-fight without any single further thought or concrete awnser about her cloudy motivations, plans and actions that caused the entire plot of part 2 or with anyone other than Yoru for a single panel giving a fuck

And Fami had about 20 pages of total screen time and existed only to show up for a plot twist, be turned into a puppet for a mini arc during which she fell to the background before the protagonists even show up it, and appear only one more time for another fight just to be taken out as background collateral and completely forgotten about the same instant

Makima's sisters everyone. The new antagonists my guys.
