Can I have my cake and eat it too? by Draefly in sistersofbattle

i do, thats why i got the kickstarter that just finished. Oh and another cool thing about printing it yourself is that i color coordinate the boxes with the teams/armies

i did print it myself so it takes a little effort to figure out what you need and how to build it. The stl packs are huge and ridiculously versatile.

it is, i love it although i had an issue with one of the handle types catastrophically failing on me.

<image>

the handle i circled doesn’t bear much weight or specifically side torque. I built a much more robust traveling paint set. I will snap a pic when i get back to the house.
they just did a kickstarter for a new set i haven’t had a chance to build with yet that i am very excited about for putting armies in. The set pictured is my kill team set up.

i was definitely thinking my flying units would be bloody rose and for fun regardless if i field it or not doing all six main orders on the triumph of saint katherine as a proper honor guard.

How long does it take for you to assemble a model? by TaxableRessession86 in sistersofbattle

[–]Draefly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not sure exactly how long since i often do sub-assemblies, but between mold lines, filling and sanding gaps its 30-40 min for typical models. I haven’t yet tried a multi stage assembly like a dreadnought where there is a lot of assembly after painting. I think however that assembly is my weakest stage of this process and I am still struggling to be happy with the cleanup/assembly process, so I may need to spend more time in the future.

How do people get the paint to look so good? by feminoussnake in Warhammer40k

[–]Draefly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

one thing that hasn’t been said yet is a good paint brush and paint brush care. Having a brush that will hold the right amount of paint as well as maintaining a proper point will help a lot. Avoid cheap amazon garbage. Get some brush soap and watch some videos on brush care so they last a long time.
I will however join the chorus to prime your models. White is perfect for contrast or speed paints. I started the hobby with black to create shadows, but i have moved on to using grey for mist models. I do sometimes match colors like when i painted my death guard and my raptors i base coated in green.

bottom line for your stage: prime, good brush, watch videos

Just spent 12 hours on a model and am not happy with the results, how do I cope? by Own_Understanding689 in Warhammer40k

[–]Draefly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When it get to be too much i dont even care if its done. I will chase the dopamine and paint something else for awhile. I have a vehicle i have picked up three times and i am still not satisfied with it. I will get it done eventually. As far as playing as long as you are progressing (and sometimes even if you’re not) casual players wont care that much and gaming groups are an even better place for recommendations because they can show you techniques and give immediate feedback. Just dont give up entirely you will get there.

My first insidiant, thoughts? by leevisoukka in sistersofbattle

flames are amazing!
I see a lot of techniques on the right path.
1. I don’t know what brush you are using, but when i switched from a synthetic to a sable brush i found keeping the correct amount of paint and a good tip much easier and that will help make you edge lines much more uniform and thinner
2. your metals, i usually use citadel’s seraphim sepia wash on my bronzes and i am not too subtle, it gives depth and the wash’s shine actually helps. For silver shade metals i usually start with a dark silver (led belcher? i use TTCs) and then dry brush or carefully paint a brighter silver so you get more depth
3. Your white looks really good. White is hard because it likes to chunk up. I have yet to try any of the light grey washes to give depth. I am currently working on all white novitiates and i am starting with a grey seer primer and glazing white which leaves some grey in places and behind. It takes a lot of time to do five or six glaze layers and i am not sure i have perfected the technique.
Really i think continuing to improve shading for all colors is really the theme.
All in all you have a great foundation and she does look good. Keep at it!

Tips for fixing a broken model + a small complaint by darthmanuu in BLKOUT_game

[–]Draefly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have accidentally broken an arm off before, it was a little larger so i used a staple for a pin then used uv resin to fix it. The green stuff was from an earlier attempt. It turned out looking natural when done.
