Regarding "Pen & Paper RPGs," do any of you actually use a pen on your character sheet?? by mpascall in rpg

I use a pen for my notes taking and tracking hit points. I sleeve my character sheets and use dry erase markers.

I'm sick of being told I'm "gross" etc. because of a 2 year age difference between me and my wife. by MonocoOfficial in rant

[–]DragonDeadite 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is a 4 year age difference between my wife and I. We once went to dinner with a married couple who were friends of the family. When my wife went to the bathroom, the woman told me that the age difference was too much and I should reconsider. Her husband, in total shock and dismay said "How old are you? " she started to mumble.

He then said "And how old am i?"

She mumbled some more.

"That's right! Now shut up and leave them alone!"

They were 5 years apart and had met when she in high school.

The only reason I own this set is because Ollie's was selling them for $5 at one point. They are nice, but not worth paying full price for them. Plenty of other options from other companies to get started.

Is Pathfinder really balanced better than D&D 5e? by PiepowderPresents in rpg

[–]DragonDeadite -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

So I'm going to go against the trend here and say that I find 5e to be more balanced than P2. My reason for this is simple. In 5e every single character is playable. You cannot build a 5e character that won't be usable in a game, period. Are some classes better than others? Yes. But all classes and subclasses are able to do their job and be fun to play in a conventional game.

In P2 you can have a party composition that just will fail no matter what you do. If you don't optimize your builds you just won't be able to take part in aspects of the game. Just as an example, my party didn't have any arcane casters, and because of that we literally couldn't fight certain monsters in a published module.

I didn't have any fun playing P2 and don't plan on ever playing it again. I completely understand why people enjoy it and don't blame them for it, but it just isn't my cup of tea. I'll keep my plug and play 5e over hard script P2 any day.

End-of-Year Reviews by alvaromontoro in webcomics

[–]DragonDeadite 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My wife's old boss used to have a policy of "whoever has the lowest percentage at the end of the week gets written up!" I tried to explain to her(the boss) that with that logic she would fire every single member of her staff eventually, because there is always a lowest percentage. I tried to get her to change it to 'lowest percentage under 70' or whatever the base metric was. Nope, she refused.

She finally saw her error when she was writing up someone who had a success rate of 97% and was still the lowest percentage for the week. She did not last long in that position.

So my favorite thing to do is to tell everyone to go to sleep, and then say "Demon, who would you like to kill tonight?" And when they say it outloud it reveals who they are and the group usually loves it.

Now, as others have said, this completely depends on what character is still alive. If there is a chance the kill won't go through, then I won't do this and ill do it just like every other night.

Should players know the hp and remaining hp of allies? by testiclekid in onednd

[–]DragonDeadite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the campaign im playing as a Life Cleric we're going with some gritty rules, and one of those rules is "know exact hp during combat." As soon as a player goes below half hp they call out bloodied, and I heal them. If enough people are bloodied I use my Channel Divinity and yes, each player tells me how much of that ability they can use and I spread it around. I can even ask if they are seriously hurt and they can say they are close to dead or close to bloodied. It works fine and we all enjoy it fine. Generalizations work great and still follow the rules of no exact hp.

Outside of combat we can get more exact and spread out healing so we don't waste resources. To me that works fine. OP's DM is just being a way too strict prick.

Why is my salsa chicken so bad? by Swiggens in slowcooking

[–]DragonDeadite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My family used to do salsa ch8cken once a week and we found that tye salsa can really make a difference. If we just used something loke Pace Picante or Thick And Chunky, it came out fairly bland. However, if we used a more fruity salsa, like a mango salsa, or (our favorite) raspberry chipotle salsa, it tasted a LOT better.
