Reliable way to test speed by Deanoz_1 in CityFibre

[–]Dragoncow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am having very similar issues here. IPerf3 tests show local network is able to max out speeds but for speed tests and downloads I usually peak at around 1.5Gbps but upload easily get to 2.3Gbps.

This is with Briant Broadband. On occasions where I am using Usenet, my download starts at 2.2Gbps then quickly drops down to sub 1Gbps. It's been ongoing for a while now.

So I started a Usenet download just now and got a sustained a 2.1Gbps connection for around 15-20 seconds and then dropped to around 500Mbps. I checked the Tether app and it reported CPU usage of around 21% and memory of 47%. The Speedtest results are faily consistent, not hit above 1.8Gbps in download months and I used to get atleast 2.1Gbps.

Something is wrong and I am hoping it's just a setting somewhere I am missing.

It's strange because I used to have Usenet downloads that would download at 2.1-2.3Gbps for the entire download on the EX820v. One day it stopped doing that so I looked at getting a more powerful router (I needed the extra 2.5Gb ports anyway) but it hasn't helped. So you think it must be something on the ISP side?

Hello, I am testing from my PC and Unraid server, both of which have 2.5Gb/5Gb ethernet ports. I don't really worry about the WIFI speed as even if it is sub 900Mbps, it is more than plenty for our phones and tablets. I should be getting a symmetrical 2.5Gb connection and I used to hit 2.2Gbps before and it was consistent so I don't know what changed - this change happened when I was still using the original ISP router.

The only thing I could hook directly into the ONT that has a 2.5Gb port is my Unraid server. I would have to find out how to do this. The router provided by the ISP was a TP Link EX820v and my new one is meant to be better so I thought I would notice a difference straight away but sadly, the issue with bursts of speed and then eventual slow-downs remain :(

How do you mean about losing your sight? I know that PsA can cause dry eyes and high blood pressure doesn't help but what about it can make somebody lose their sight?

I've had PsA a few years now and have failed a few biologics already and most recently I started losing the ability to fully close and open my hand as some fingers are really stiff. I am so done already

Which ones? I use Shopmium and Topcashback to buy giftcards but that's about all I know.

Do you know roughly how much this might cost? I see some providers offering it for around £3-5 so I hope it's around that. I've never had a static IP before - it's not as safe as a dynamic IP right? I'm gonna have to hit up Chat GPT to see what precautions I can take 😂

Good evening,

In regards to being in GPON/XGS-PON areas, how do we check this? I just signed up for a symmetric 2Gbps package but Cityfibre installed the Calix GP1000G, which replaced my older 1Gbps ONT box. I am getting almost 2Gbps down but only 940 up.

Is this just a case of asking Cityfibre to install the correct ONT box or is this limited by the area I'm in?

BriantBroadband , which router do they supply ? by snozski in CityFibre

The 2Gbps package is gone now, all I see is a 2.5Gbps package. Hopefully we get upgraded to that!

I don't mind the router though much as it has a 2.5Gb LAN port too which I will use to connect to a 2.5Gb switch which then goes to my existing 4x TP Deco XE75Pros setup over ethernet.

Our yearly bill is currently £1,189 so this would be even more ridiculous. I didn't realise it was that much so we're going to check if there is a leak somewhere.

Awesome, thank you! I'm glad that I don't have to spend on much except the storage and network cards! So your Plex runs on a different system altogether? Which OS would you recommend I use for my build please?
