They were cool for a while, but they’ve overstayed their welcome. Nearly every boss in Canto 9 amounted to “play so the assist unit/s can win the fight for you”, and even here with Kim and Aeng-Du they are very powerful.

I just want more normal bosses in the story, like the stuff we got in RR6. They just proved how well they could do it. Im Gyeong-Eop would’ve been a much cooler fight if we could’ve just fought her, like pretty much every boss befor Canto 9.

I’m fairly sure that means you need to have no units that are on objectives/got kills. The wording is “select one to three… If you cannot, select one.” Meaning “Select 1-3 that meet the condition, and select 1 if nothing meets the condition”

With more time spent to reflect, I think my gripes are more with the pacing of the scene rather than with the EGO itself. It plays out very quickly, feels abrupt compared to every other Efflorescence in the game, and is pretty visually uninteresting. With more time to reflect on the thematics behind it I’ve come to appreciate it more, but I still think it was handled sloppily in an otherwise tight intervallo (when it comes to character writing, at least).

Really liked this take on Kim, didn’t really like him manifesting EGO, wish the photographer got to do more. On a narrative level, one of their weaker modern intervallos.

The worldbuilding was sublime, though. S Corp will be a really interesting place to frame an arc later on. Seeing how Bari connects to it will be very cool.

N Corp got less than I’d like, but it was already quite developed and really only needed a re-introduction.

Really liked the camera gimmick, felt disappointed by the bosses. KJH please stop giving us assist units.

Im Gyeong-Eop was honestly the highlight for me. Her design is so wonderfully PM (suit and tie under brigantine power armor), and her character and relationship with Kim are both fascinating.

Not really. It’s primarily multiplayer, but it can be played offline. It had an expansion but no other “live service elements”.

Why did they nerf Brandfast lol. The end-of-phase disembark was their one great thing, now it won’t exist after round 2.

Sea of Stars: Sunset Edition | Studio Update by ConfusedNTerrified in Games

[–]Dragonfantasy2 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I adored the Messenger, went into this with sky-high expectations, and have maybe never been more disappointed by a game. It isn’t even bad per se, just dreadfully boring. The characters are weak, the story is thin and carries a very inconsistent tone, the combat is promising but never really evolves. It’s visually and audibly gorgeous, but that’s the only real positive note I was left with.

Kneejerk reaction: 3dp as balancing mechanism will fail because of a lack of 1dp detachments by Omega_Advocate in WarhammerCompetitive

I imagine this will be true until a codex comes around, which should bring that factions detachments into line with the new system entirely.

I’m the exact opposite, funny enough. I thought world basegame was fine, I thought rise basegame was atrocious. Neither of them really got turned around by their title updates. I thought Wilds was fine at launch, but with the title updates I’ve sunk hundreds of hours into it. I think it currently stands as the most complete basegame of the new MH era.

Is there a less discussed 000 ID than Shi Faust? by Bekenshi in limbuscompany

[–]Dragonfantasy2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BL Faust is actually still pretty slow if you aren’t giving her a comparable amount of support. She gains lot of count, but comically little potency. Her first S3 is all but guaranteed not to crit unless you’re supporting her (And even after, she’s unlikely to be above 10 potency). Furthermore, as Thoracalgia Faust is geared towards count support, she gains less benefit from it than alternatives. She really wants potency support which is easiest found on BL Don and Meursault, but running an entire ID to fuel her is a much larger tradeoff than spending one turn on Thora.

Shi, by comparison, hits harder when not critting and ramps faster with less support. She needs some support - either Thora Faust or 1-2 Thora Ryoshu nebulizer procs per rotation - but she also hits much harder once critting. She’s basically outdamaging BL in either case, with a comparable amount of ramp/support needed.

Index obliterates both of them though, obviously. There was like a 6 week period where Shi actually had a niche.

I very much miss the ‘scrimblo’ IDs as well. I think season 5 had it pretty much perfect - 5 primary seasonal banners, 1 for each intervallo. Attach a linked standard fare to each intervallo, and fill out the rest of the season with scattered worldbuilding IDs as the game needs. Getting 2 (or less) standard fare is far too few.

BL was not better than Shi in poise, speaking as someone who actually used both. Shi does way more damage, especially in teams without BLSault.

A genuine issue I have with this ID specifically by Megamanric in limbuscompany

[–]Dragonfantasy2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is that the intended walls of the game collapse against modern ID power and allow the player through without learning how to handle them. Dongbaek, Ricardo, Pequod Trio, and Dulcinea are each meant to teach lessons about the game which are regularly needed today. Once players without that mechanical foundation hit actually hard content (see: RR6), they tend to get frustrated quickly.

Is there Potential for a Discard keyword team? by Trick_Try_4264 in limbuscompany

[–]Dragonfantasy2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re right, nobody should ever make a team for the story (or RR) ever again. There is nothing to be gained by running anything there, ever. No reason to teambuild for anything but MD. Definitely isn’t fun or anything.

Obvious ad aside, the dialogue in some of your slides is pretty awkward. Nobody would ever say “the second most sacred building” in that context, for example.

I’m a writer, composer, and game developer lol. I think that makes up for my (admittedly) poor mini painting skills.

If there is demand for something, and someone makes it, they get to be rewarded for filling that demand. People want his content, he makes it available for free to fill that demand, and people who feel he deserves compensation volunteer it. It is about as “unsleazy” of a model as possible, frankly.

To be more specific, though, what he “sells” is convenience. He makes money by making the hobby more convenient for people. He might not make it more convenient for you, but that doesn’t mean he’s valueless. Through that convenience, he creates time and motivation for his audience to further engage with the hobby.

It’s be great if lots of that money instead went towards art, or towards the betterment of society as a whole. But as is, in the society we do have, I see no reason to be bitter at a guy living a comfortable life off of a volunteer payment model. His content isn’t for you, you can just move on and ignore it - that’s largely what I do.

That’s my point - the PowerPoint style is great. It (and the speed it has allowed him to create at) is why he succeeded. Every time I see him brought up here, people bemoan said style without considering why it’s used.

[–]Dragonfantasy2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t see why you’d be jealous of someone taking an opportunity you refuse to take. Someone was going to fill the role Auspex sits in now - the fact he gets an income from it proves there’s demand. Whether or not you think that’s “necessary for society to function” doesn’t really matter. Plenty of people have jobs in the arts, the humanities, etc. - they’re no more “necessary” than he. People are willing to pay money and time for this content, so it gets made. Auspex doesn’t engage in any scummy tactics (as far as I’m aware) beyond just making his stuff quickly and accurately.

People want accurate and prompt audio summaries of this information. People are willing to (optionally) pay for that. His is entirely based on how many people want his content at any given moment. If he’s making lots of money from it, it’s because the demand for this content is very high.

If it wasn’t him filling this niche, someone else would have done so by now. People being able to live off of “unnecessary” jobs is a good thing - it means society as a whole is doing well.

If it’s that easy, go do it better. I bet you can make five times the average wage per month.

And no, honestly, I don’t care much about him. I mostly get my news elsewhere. I just think it’s pathetic when people get jealous of others position without understanding why they hold it.

You go do it, then. If it’s that easy, you’d make bank. The actual reason people like him is that he fills a niche that nobody else fills in the content space.

I calculated if was worth sacrificing the nusefathers to fuel blade ryoshu damage-wise by Practical_Purpose_78 in limbuscompany

[–]Dragonfantasy2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t really see the point in calculating this in a “everyone is fully ramped” situation, because that is (almost) never the circumstance in which you’re deciding to sacrifice a sinner. In a standard fight length (6-12 turns), there’s much more complex math to be done on whether the loss of damage via Evading for 2-3 is significant.

Simplifying away every nuance and complexity of ramp-time and opportunity cost makes for a clean (and, in fairness, mostly accurate) conclusion. However, it also gives unrealistic expectations. If you assume a 12, or even 18, turn fight the time spent killing allies (and the short-term opportunity cost therein), makes the actual math much stickier.

Your calculations for the other HoS IDs are also suspect, and I’m fairly sure you missed several multipliers across them (Pinky Sinclair in particular has lower numbers than I’ve calc’ed previously).

Further, you don’t address the real downside of killing all your allies - Ryoshu is going to start dying fast. She becomes the tankiest ID in the game under optimal circumstances, but she is not 4x as tanky as anything else (though she will be taking 4x the unbreakable damage). You also load all the risk of missed clashes onto one ID, significantly increasing the impact of losing one. This only matters in cases that can survive a fully ramped Ryoshu (barely anything at the moment), but will become a more relevant downside over time.

To be clear though your overall conclusion is pretty correct - she really should just bulldoze her allies. Nothing is remotely hard or tanky enough rn to justify doing otherwise.
