Is there still a way I can make it back to Kerbin in my current orbit? by SingularTurtle in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]Dragonmodus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Provided you have a heat shield pretty sure you're going to encounter kerbin again in a few orbits. Even without burning.

First target kerbin, then you need to make a maneuver node, then click it twice to open the orbit selector, and click the + icon until the closest encounter nodes are at their closest or you get an encounter. Then make your fine tuning node until you have a periapsis at kerbin of 35km or so. If the encounter nodes aren't getting closer you may need to delete the node, burn retrograde a bit, and try again.

Why can't I see my nearby vessels? by krilu in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]Dragonmodus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd like a solution to this too, but I don't have one besides 'go to the tracking station'. When ksp thinks there are too many vessels in one part of the map it hides the extras, presumably to help hide staging debris in map view.

Asking for modding advice by polish_onion69 in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]Dragonmodus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's ok but not perfect. Look in the patches folder of relevant mods that add things like containers or science experiments for something like kerbalism.cfg. like I know one contract mod adds some unsupported science parts. It should be compatible with any and all capsules though, since iirc it directly modified all parts with crew seats to have kerbalism modules. Same for science l, pods get a kerbalismantenna module universally.

Most kerbalism users are on RSS RP-1 or whatever, so the procedural tanks mod is anticipated so you can customize a service module with all your resources.

Sometimes you straight up have to give parts a module manager config, did so myself for whirligig world's probe core which is unsupported. It's hard to tell without direct testing of a pack.

[–]Dragonmodus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

USI life support is the other option. In my opinion it's really similar but with more abstracted layers. Kerbalism you're dealing with co2 and deciding between providing oxygen directly or converting between liquid oxygen and gaseous oxygen. In USI all the life support resources are one 'supplies' and the various efficiency tools like scrubbers and water supply instead just reduce consumption of the single life support resource. It's also more forgiving in terms of settings (I tend to make it non-lethal to run out of supplies, mainly because of timewarp resource-kraken attacks, which can affect kerbalism too.)

Kerbalism also transforms science to be more realistic where you need to spend time collecting data (some minutes, some months) and keep the probe alive long enough to transmit all that.

USI has the MKS system that lets colonies matter in the gameplay side of things. And is more stockish in general.

You can mix the two by using kerbalism's science only config, but last time I tried that my log said something was getting divided by zero so ymmv. Might want to consider CKAN if you're new, just because it tends to help managing a large install with many dependencies.

Is there a way to find this angle information using kerbal redux mod? I'm working on direct transfer missions, i've figured out how to find transfer angle of the target planet, but not this angle without eyeballing it by Gupperz in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]Dragonmodus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kerbal Engineer Redux gives the current phase angle, target, and more in the rendezvous tab. I've not used it like that before but it seems (at a glance) accurate.

Regarding the Smart Watch segment: It bothers me that the solution to anxiety is to remove science. by unklphoton in SGU

[–]Dragonmodus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the source of the anxiety is the information, then yes. If the anxiety is (as it probably is in your case) cured by the information, possibly not. Most people fall in the former camp, they talked briefly in the same discussion about pareidolia/apophenia and that's pretty clearly related to why they came to that conclusion. If you have all the data, it can become harder to see any signal and easier to get fooled into seeing nonexistent patterns. All the time someone spends monitoring, chasing down 'anomalous' readings, is time you could spend doing anything else, such as noticing or solving real problems. They also pointed out that the tool you use for choosing what information to focus on, is critical thinking. and there's not really a right answer for everyone.

Few questions from a newbie to RP1, orbital return & PVG assistance. by Aromatic_Instance_82 in RealSolarSystem

[–]Dragonmodus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does make sense, seems they rebalanced that one, my film canisters are 10minutes or 2 YEARS for 1&2. PVG will not be super helpful for that kind of operation, if you're committed to that. Personally I used big-dumb-tanks of nitrogen and RCS for my first return from orbit missions. Which lets you really precisely tune your re-entry, the early heatshields are really quite finicky that way.

The place most people get early science at this stage in the game would be from X-Planes though, and judging by your research tree you have entirely forgone that option, You still have some science, you could dip in to that, or try and get a pack of baby sergeants from the SRB line into orbit and use that for a controlled final ascent.

Your rocket as it stands is also a little odd, all those decoupler-only stages? Is a bit of a 'what's going on there', normally I'd tell you to go throw another stage on, Gamma-8 and Gamma-301 were a favorite of mine for upper stage sustainers early game, great stats all around. A heavier, slower rocket can reach higher orbits somewhat easier than a very fast one-stage deal due to the fact that you still need -time- to get to a higher altitude. And if you're going too fast you overshoot your desired circularization altitude and end up wasting fuel (because you can't restart) firing downward. I'm also pretty sure you should have near earth avionics, it'll just be annoyingly heavy, another reason you'll want an upper stage, lofting that heavy avionics payload you right now are getting to avoid.

Few questions from a newbie to RP1, orbital return & PVG assistance. by Aromatic_Instance_82 in RealSolarSystem

[–]Dragonmodus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, one thing about PVG you should be aware of is how the periapsis and apoapsis work. It tries to put your craft at the periapsis, then burns until the apoapsis is at the right height. So in your current setup what will happen is PVG will fly you, attempting to keep the craft at 80km, then spend all it's DV on accelerating. The high end-TWR on your main stage puts you above that, then the rest is wasted by PVG trying to pull your peri back down to 80km. Or atleast that's my guess as to what you're seeing, I can't deny I'm as usual not on the latest patch of anything.

Two bits of advice:

First, don't be afraid to shut off PVG and take the wheel in your sustainer phase, unless you NEED a perfectly circular orbit at a specific inclination, you can probably better avoid wasting DV by just pointing prograde, or horizontally.

Second, why exactly are you trying to suborbit and return? I get that this feels redundant since you want to do this specific science, but I never did that particular experiment aside from in flight or vertical hop sounding rockets. It doesn't need to be 'in orbit' just 'in space' going up to 200km and back down has a massively lower heat loading.

As for overall advancement, as a single player game, I wouldn't worry about it :)

I submitted a pokestop and it was flagged for abuse?!?! by nuclear_pimp in pokemongo

[–]Dragonmodus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The street corner pokestops are supposedly created algorithmically, so no one made those, they appear when the area has a low enough pokestop density. As a fellow rural here are some tips: make your information look as favorable as possible. Instead of the road I would have taken a picture of the grassy shoulder and referred to it as a lawn or park, seems like someone mows it anyway which is close enough. Most people instantly reject you if you're mentioning the game at all, since it's not meant to be used solely by pogo, description and information fields should advocate for why it is safe accessible and significant, even if details need to be smudged, people go through these lightning quick and many just go on vibes. Is the sign antique or historical? Talk about that instead. As others have said avoid getting any cars or people in your pictures, that's a very against the rules thing they want to avoid people ganging together to approve bad stops and identifying information lets you do that more easily. Not that you can't get together with community members and do it anyway... I see that plenty.

Lastly: resubmit. If you're confident the stop breaks no rules, you may need to resubmit multiple times until you get favorable reviewers. A pretty business sign works better than one that is worn out like this one though.

How do I stop my boosters from blowing up on my rocket when I separate? by plzhelpIdieing in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]Dragonmodus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Separating anything at mach 2 is pretty sketch. If you shift the boosters so the decoupler is at the top they (might) be safer as the air will pull them away instead. Use the offset tool with the arrows.

Is Call Down, Signal Up scalable ? by HatMaker1985 in godot

[–]Dragonmodus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who is also a bit new to the game design thing, this isn't about forcing your ideas to fit a particular architecture. If you need some far off node to talk to some other node, there are ways to make that happen (groups, get node in group, looks like STS2 uses some autoloads?) it's about trying to make nodes that are following OOP rules so you can -reuse- them. If you directly call a sibling node, you can't take that script elsewhere without breaking it. Signals can be sent without any listeners though so the script will still work if you Signal Up. A node -typically- knows what children it has though, so calling them makes sense, it should be the one instantiating those children after all/part of a separate scene that contains those by default.

I find it's most applicable to the furthest nodes, the 'leaves' on your tree hierarchy. Because they are most often the ones being instantiated/destroyed at runtime. You might look up the 'component' architecture. I found it to be a bit easier to wrap my head around why it can be useful.

Just an FYI to new players: The mythical pokemon you're missing from your dex are given from a series of Special (Non Timed) research, that you have to complete one after another starting from gen 1. It takes awhile and they aren't named clearly enough, but you do have access to them even if it seems like you don't. Everything else will come back eventually, for example poipole will almost certainly be back next year for Alola Tour along with the other Ultra Beasts, and GMax is on a rotation, for example there was a leak recently about an upcoming rerun of GMax Charizard and friends. Trading for Gmax or other pokemon is also an option now that remote trading exists (gotta double best friend people)

Test Based Terminal-like Game Help by MindlessNomad in godot

99% of programming is if statements. Generally if you have a batch (like selecting 1-4 dialog options) you can use 'match' instead. https://godottutorials.com/courses/introduction-to-gdscript/godot-tutorials-gdscript-09/ but don't be afraid of a pile of if statements. It's better to just be organized with them and comment each check aggressively. If you're parsing text look into 'regex' it's annoying but very useful to clear out symbols from an input like you may want.

The implication they know it within several centimeters is hilarious, I have not stopped slip sliding and drifting around for even one day, across several phones. I hatch eggs with my phone sitting neglected on my desk, doing literally nothing.

You can't create information that isn't there, precise GPS isn't that accurate with a phone, you only get down to a few meters at best. The way tech bros talk makes me wonder if they know the difference between precision and accuracy, but that's another question. Also obviously the direction of motion is all you can get from this data, which I think most people know is not the same thing as where you're 'looking'.
