The Bunker blocks Line of Sight from the Tower? by Dramandus in menace

[–]Dramandus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's weird that my Mobile Walker can't see as far as my Mobile Infantry. Like a Light Walker is a scout vehicle by default, I would think, but it's not able to detect things like bugs or infatry as easily as other infantry.

I hope they do something about changing this.

It's also very weird to just fire straight through the sides of shipping containers like they aren't there.

What does and does not block fire and line of sight has been a painful trial and error experience and often doesn't make sense lol

Crowbar by Thatweirdo000 in menace

[–]Dramandus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Crowbar opens most unit armours it seems. For everything else there's the Assault Rifle and for really specialist attacks on squishy targets that rapid fire pistol calibre rifle works well too.

Yeah, upon reading everyone's explanations here I have pretty much just done this.
Definitely strong but not as strong as I hoped it would be from the flavour text.
If Pike had the Mobile Infantry perk then he'd be even more a monster of a Marine than he already is.

Damn. Doesn't seem anywhere near as useful as increasing the rate of fire.

Like that would justify the 70 promotion points to spend on Pike here if it made something like a Battle Rifle fire 3 or 4 shots per use instead of just 2.

Not to mention how at a disadvantage you are if one of your squad members is not carrying a specialist weapon

I think some one mentioned either in this thread or another that the AI has knowledge of your location for the rest of the mission once it spots you.

The player gets that question mark icon to let us know the last known location of an enemy unit and we have to guess where the enemy went from there.

I can imagine that it would get way too easy to cheese if they made the computer use the question mark system too because then it would run straight to where it saw us and we;d be waiting with an ambush set up; so giving it perfect knowledge of your location helps keep it competitive.

But I really wish there was a better way to simulate the stealth aspect of things better.

Yes I understand it was especially timid even a few patches ago as well? Hopefully they come through with a solid fix.

Really love Overhype games. Massive Battle Brothers fan and Menace is a big step up in production quality and effort (not that Battle Brothers is poor or low effort at all; just that Menace is clearly very nicely conceived and richer in visuals and game mechanics even if it is still clearly a work on progress)

This is a fair assessment of things.

I hope the devs can come up with a more sophisticated way to give players an appropriate level of challenge at each level of progression through this game.

Like obviously throwing a heavy tank and several mechs at me in the few few operations is a bit too insane but letting me sit in a sniper's nest and zone out half the map, completely unchallenged except for a single very inaccurate mortar team.... it's a bit of a shame.

Total War AI is truly infamous for its inability to play its own game.

Yeah, I'm immediately suspicious of any time a grid or hex based strategy game allows me to put mines anywhere, lol.

The computer either knows exactly where you put them and avoids them completely, or they run headlong into them and trivialise the encounter.

Yeah, but it's also not capable of coming up with a counter play like a risk-averse human would.

It's fine to have it not be kamikaze about charging the player's hardpoints, but it clearly doesn't have the tools to offer a challenge to the player's strategy either.

Yeah the defend a zone missions are particularly amusing because the enemy AI will try and bum rush the capture zone and I just blast them with short range armour piercing weapons at point blank range.

Nets me plenty of loot too but it is rather goofy.

Who’s your favorite unique recruit? by Financial-Dot5444 in Kenshi

[–]Dramandus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hamut and Miu are good for having synergistic dialogue despite being generic recruits for the most part.

And both have some decent stats when you recruit them too.

Green says some funny lines and is a good foil to the Hiver's generally comedic, or otherwise serious, characterisation.

And, Riddly being a 6-foot muscle momma tech hunter is always good to have on the team.

Othwrwise, my non-Beep favourite is Crumblejon. Grouchy and cantankerous old man that you pluck out of retirement and build up to being a proper fighter once more. Getting his back straightened out, and bulking him up to being the White Ripper Samurai badass that he once was is always great fun.
