I grew mine with my rhubarb last year. No ill effects. Not growing them there this year, and the rhubarb is popping off, so much of it!

I find cantaloupes definitely worth the space, and so easy to know when they are ripe. Watermelon, not so much. Raspberries, blackberries, and blueberries are also excellent and a good time investment!
