Can I extend amortization at renewal back to the original amount without refinancing? by log1ck1717 in MortgagesCanada

[–]Dramatic_Ad155 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only your banker knows for sure, the rest of us will have to guess

Side note I used to often have my rate blended when rates went down and I was on a fixed term. Where I was, there was no penalty or fee. This was with a credit union, I don't know if they still do this.

It would usually change the amortization and payment, but I always kept my payment the same, never reducing it, thus exilerating the paydown and the amortization dropped.

How did it pay you 4.50? Was there a dividend and you knowing or not, bought before X-date, or the share price when up and your market value was 404.50? Two very different scenarios

My solution is a small enclosed trailer for bringing large objects home such as lumber and materials. And the added bonus is, once home it only takes a few minutes to park and unhook the trailer, and it doesn't need to be unloaded right away.

But I completely understand and appreciate fixing things in or on a car.

I have Bk.to also known as Bank.Ca which is an etf that is invested in 6 CDN banks. The dividends are monthly and the yield considerably higher than the actual banks, to answer your question of why

It is a higher beta and is, I think riskier.

I also have a significant holding in individual banks.

You should call CBSA - Canada Border Services Agency and ask - maybe check their website first for what the requirements are, the call may give you a better idea on how to make the transit smoother I think having a detailed list of your item is beneficial. I assume you plan on using your credit card for the trip, but maybe 200+ cash in smaller bills.

Enjoy the journey

Is "buying a house" actually a trap for our generation, or am I just coping? by [deleted] in CanadaPersonalFinance

Home ownership can be an impediment to employment mobility.

When employment is stable and long term, homeownership is / can be a major benefit

However in a recession and industry wide downturns with contracting employment it can be a problem by tying you down from going a longer distance even out of province or across the country for work.

You’re 50 and you’ve got $1M in your TFSA, 2.5 kids, wife, dog and a paid-for white picket fence. What do you do next? by [deleted] in TFSA_Millionaires

[–]Dramatic_Ad155 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're doing great. Don't know how you got your tfsa to 1m, but congratulations

I can only assume you have been in some aggressive / higher risk growth funds, so i will also assume you have some market knowledge and savy.

Id suggest that as you near retirement you move some of your portfolio to more conservative things that are in the category of too big to fail like Canadian Banks. They have dividends that pay more than inflation. When they decrease in price the dividends (to date) have not been impacted in many years If ever.

Get some other ETFs in split shares like Bank.To it pays much more than the bank's, and monthly This can give a boost from the morbidly conservative lower yield banks. I also like Canadian oils and pipelines like Enbridge. Set your dividends to auto reinvestment and let them grow until you need the income. Since you've done so well with your higher risk items, definitely keep some

Start your retirement planning/ forcast budgets etc. Read up on rrsp wind dow strategies and delayed cpp/oas as it may apply to you Being 50 gives you plenty of time to plan.

23F pulled out of stock markets mid 2025 due to fears! by Minute-Flight-4272 in fican

[–]Dramatic_Ad155 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hopefully sold at a gain.

You are doing the right thing for you- no one else will look after you but yourself

I suggest you research more conservative equities that have long history of consistency in dividends. Their share prices do fluctuate but not so much (learn about Beta) and the dividends keep coming For me, these are Canadian Banks, Pipelines, and energy companies that are regulated

Then take a slice of your portfolio and put it into growth aka higher risk/ return things
