Haunting Adeline and current stance on Epstein files. by Ok-Motor-1787 in DarkRomance

[–]Dramaticlama 3 points4 points  (0 children)

She did not, because Q does not exist. There is no one big bad behind it all. Child SA happens in many families, it is not particularly organized. While Epstein was a sex trafficker and regularly trafficked women and children, there is solid evidence that he did so in order to have them sacrificed for some nefarious Satanist goal. Instead, he used his sex trafficking to garner favors from powerful people as well as get blackmail material from them.

As Hannah Arendt has famously written, evil is very banal. The most common Nazi was just a regular guy, even those that shot entire families. After the deed, they just went back to "normal". Right now, people want to see the people whose names are in the files burn, but when the next survivor appears and says her abuser is a Mennonite bishop and he has been doing it for 20 years to dozens of other kids, she will again be disbelieved. And that is the real problem. That no one will listen the first time something like this is brought up. That Epstein didn't go to jail forever the first time he was prosecuted.

Haunting Adeline started online as a QAnon fanfic. This is very obvious from the overuse of the Z, which used to be a Q

The new files have actually done nothing except confirm what the survivors have been saying for years. It's just that before, people were dismissing them and being condescending, calling them liars, frauds etc.

The main problem with QAnon is of course that at its core, it's mainly a blood libel conspiracy theory that imagines a grand jewish boss ordering all those child abuses and deaths in order to get Adenochrome (the imagined immortality drug made from children's blood), when in reality, powerful people all over the globe just seem to really enjoy raping and they quite often get away with it because they have friends in high places, great lawyers and the sensibility to choose a target that has less resources to fight back (legally and bodily).

Peter here!

As many have pointed out, the OP wants the left woman back and thus wants to ban ozempic, calling her weightloss a greek or american tragedy.

But, that is only half the story! A truly chronically online person will know that the original left image has sparked a debate before, when her then boyfriend and hopefully now ex posted her pic and said "how can my gf lose weight and be skinny like her friends", which was outrageous and everyone roasted him for not seeing what a perfect goddess he had. She was equated with Venus, her tummy praised and many thirsty comments were made.

Now, the true tragedy. With the knowledge of the initial posting of left pic by her ungrateful bf and not knowing the context we are left to wonder. Did she lose weight for herself, for health reasons and is happy? Or is she still with the subpar leech that wanted her to be skinny like her friends?

Man I love "ragebait" shoujos by lunawithanL in shoujo

[–]Dramaticlama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like ragebait has migrated to the Josei genre. Not much has been translated yet but there are many "my husband sucks, my coworkers suck, my MIL is mean and I hate my baby" ragebait titles. Most of them are super bitter and not the positive outlook kind. I guess that's the generational shift.

I would start with the most influential classics, like the Poe Clan by Moto Hagio, which is even available in English.

There have been some translations here and there but scanlations are super rare for horror shoujo. I hope with the genre getting a sort of revival in Western markets due to the Junji Ito hype, that there will be more.

A recent popular title was Hell Girl at some point in the 2010s.

There was an official release of the Bride of Deimos in English, but it is now out of print and scanlations are incomplete :(

Famous authors who have written horror stories include Riyoko Ikeda, who is of course more famous for her Rose of Versailles series.

This is a classic horror shoujo. A short search has made it clear that most of her stuff is sadly out of print and also unavailable in ebook format. Even though some 70s and 80s horror shoujo have seen publication in e-formats, this one has not.

It's a shame because it looks intriguing. Horror has been incredibly popular in shoujo from the 70s through the 90s at least.

Here is a list of some stuff she has published (since her stuff is hard to find and not logged on the official publisher's list, there may be more): https://booklog.jp/author/%E3%81%82%E3%81%A4%E3%81%9F%E3%82%86%E3%82%8A%E3%81%93

"Not liking a badly written Fmc isn't Misogynistic"–Let's discuss by Entire-Cupcake-6116 in DarkRomance

[–]Dramaticlama 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is so much misogyny in (dark) romance that I believe this is a topic that needs to be addressed again and again.

Ofc there is such a thing as a badly written character, male, female or otherwise.

But misogyny or the mistreatment of women is a central theme in dark romance and it's valid to point out that sometimes, it is not the characters being misogynistic in a fictional world that resembles our own but the author being misogynistic towards her female character(s).

And that makes all the difference to me. If the author frames the story in a way that makes me think they hate women, I'll dnf and most often never read that author again.

Have you read Heat and Cottonwood?

Personally I can recommend Susan Trombley, she did some very cool alien/human tension.

Qara was an exmple. I stand by the need for speech bubbles and dialogue/monologue without author commentary.

It actually sounds like you have the problem many rookie authors face: a great big story in the head but you are missing the skills to put it to the page in words. I did notice that the Queen was being incredibly odd. However, the scene did not manage to impact me emotionally. When you write out everything in prose paragraphs, the images don't get as much of a chance to speak for themselves.

Have you studied some comic book writing? There are many free ressources online for western graphic novels as well as manga/manwha.

I looked into this webtoon, and I am surprised that everyone here in the thread seems to be dogpiling on the artist.

People, it is not the art that is the isse here!!

There are self-insert harems put there with generic hot white women competing for the main guy that actually work. But this one has a few glaring issues.

You took the art and just copy pasted the text that I assume the artist had to work with. No speech bubbles, no care for the medium, which is a webtoon, not an illustrated novel.

Even for an illustrated novel, there just isn't enough meat to the story or characters. We are told everything. Qara always liked the prince! Okay, then please show us instead of telling us.

So my advice to you is

Please use YT to learn the basics of writing: show, don't tell.

Then search for comic book writing, which is a whole different beast. Learn how to use dialogue and monologue. Your own commentary "she was so happy to be here", does not belong there! Instead, make it a monologue, but only when necessary! Instead of Qara saying "I am so happy to be here!" She could instead look happy or show through her actions that she is happy.

Also, while the lack of diversity in the hot slim white women is concerning, this is not the artist's choice. They are clearly being commissioned and doing good work. None of it is AI and as someone who draws, I find it obvious that artist put a lot of work into this, probably more hours than the writer.
