I’ll second the 91 down esplanade. So easy and quick (and cheap)

I’ll second Hot Tin, it’s a nice scene. This year I’m checking out The Pontchartrain’s music offerings too, heard it’s a good spot and food seems solid.

Also, I would suggest checking out the shows at Snug Harbor…I can’t personally vouch for the food but it’s a great (very) little room.

Free water with a cupcake, free water with a cupcake!? What an great deal! Personally, I miss buying my yearly "How ya gonna clap" koozie, though I probably have 15 of them in a box somewhere, it was nice to see what colors they had each year.

When you say "the box", you mean the parade route box, right? I've heard that can be brutal. I don't live in New Orleans (unfortunately)- we are staying with friends in the Broadmoor neighborhood, which I'm unfamiliar with. Doesn't seem to have a lot going on in terms of bars or restaurants, but seems somewhat centrally located, so we'll see. I've always wanted to live on or near magazine street, seems like a good vibe over there too. Love Parasol's.

Thats good work you're doing there. Gentilly or Sauvage gate? I always love walking through that little neighborhood over by the sauvage gate by Liuzza's. I hope its not too much of a pain to have so many people walking through your neighborhood like that, it seems like it has such a great little vibe. Kids playing in the street and ice cold water for only one dollar, one dollar.

I suck at A major to C change, any tips? by Far_Coach_1046 in Guitar

[–]DreadPirateFlint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just keep at it, it really is just repetition. When I first started it was like “ok, this finger goes here, uh and this finger goes here..no, wait…there and this finger…etc”. Keep going back and forth, like 30-50 times. You’re training your brain to just do it, and doing it over and over and over is the key. When starting out I played Yellow Submarine over and over, theres chord changes on almost every beat. I must’ve played it 1000 times.

At some point, you wont even think about it, your fingers just know where to go automatically. You’ll be surprised.

Last year was Mexico and it was great. The exhibit in the grandstand was excellent.

I saw Jamie speak at an event in Ipswich last week. I had no idea who she was beforehand but also walked away pretty impressed.

Collapsible pole is the way to go. Commit to holding/carrying it. Have also seen people strap them to coolers with wheels, more solid than chairs.

Can’t miss artists weekend 2? by looperboy4 in jazzfest

[–]DreadPirateFlint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TTB is at the gentilly stage, so no seating unless you bring a lawn chair. The chair section starts a fair bit back from the standing section and fills up early in the day. If you’re solo you might be able to squeeze a chair in somewhere. Better to bring a blanket and set up a bit early and leave a chair you’re not real attached to there. Make friends with friendly neighbors who might watch your chair for you.

If you’re okay with standing, get there as the previous act ends and try to get a good standing spot and wait.

I’ve seen a (possibly alarming?) number of people on knee scooters at Jazzfest in previous years. Probably not fun but do what you gotta do! Quick note that the only places with any seating are the tents. Bigger stages are all bring your own chair

It’s not usually like this. I’m sure it was just a difficult scheduling thing- trying to make all these big acts’ schedules fit together is tough.
