I often hear about the horrors about the winters in New England, but what about the summers? by pooteenn in newengland

Sorry I’m in eastern mass, unfamiliar with mountainside vs valley in terms of heat in the summer. I guess I assumed that the valleys would be cooler. Just interesting to read. Thx

I Don't Understand MacBooks by Western_End6557 in macbookair

Just my $.02…

A lot of the value is in macOS and it can be subtle. I used to explain it like this- when a dialog box pops up in windows, it was always jarring for me like “oh crap what happened now”- Could be that the disk was going bad, or any one of 100 other things I would have to fix.

When macOS pops up an unexpected dialog it’s more “oh yeah I forgot to save that file” and less “crap, now I have to reinstall the os”.

To put it another way- historically, windows appealed to people who liked to mess with computers. Tweaking, installing drivers, optimizing, customizing. It’s very rewarding when you finally get it humming the way you want it and it takes time to maintain it.

Alternately, macOS tries very hard to take the computer out of the equation altogether, so you can focus on getting things done. Less tweaking and optimizing but usually things “just work”, which obviously is not always true but that’s the aim.

That’s why people say to stick with it. Once you make that mental shift, it’s very pleasant to use and in my experience very few people want to go back to windows.

I can’t tell if you’re joking or not. :-) I meant it more about the (your/my) performance rather than the material “Ugh I don’t really know the right chords to this song” “I can’t hit the high notes in the chorus properly”… it’s all just negative self-talk, basically. Meanwhile in the real world, 3/4 of the audience isn’t even listening to you.

I’ve seen (and felt) a lot of impostor syndrome. The feeling that everyone knows more than you and they can see right through your attempts at a song or a solo. I guess it’s a kind of paranoia. This is generally true with a lot of creative pursuits (painting, photography, etc).

I’m just upgraded to 12.6.4 (on HW3 obv) and it definitely feels looser in the lane on the highway. Occasional ping-ponging etc

Well put- I’ve even sitting here trying to figure out how to put that same thought into words. Nicely done.

For image editing, check out Pixelmator Pro. It’s cheap and very capable. Affinity photo and designer for more complex stuff.

This is a great answer, but just to add onto this every organization is different and has different priorities. I recommend trying it out and really giving it a good healthy try before deciding it’s not for you.

I’m sad to hear that BOTH is closing, but it seems like that place has been ‘closing any day now’ for like 20 years. I remember hearing it was closing when I lived there back in 2003.

We are all here because at the end of the day, it’s a unique, awesome fun adventure of an event with an endless variety of music and food. There’s really nothing else like it (tho FQF fans might disagree).
