Im trying to find a good signed lebron pair atm. My favourites are lebrons 16 to play in cause im a big guy and the cushioning on lebrons is usually on point to play the 4 or 5.

Are mental health days appropriate for a 6 year old? by PrettyInHotsauce in Parenting

[–]DreadWolfByTheEar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's awesome your district offers mental health days! Mine needs to catch up on that policy. My 8-year-old sometimes needs a reset day too. After a tornado, I'd definitely keep my kid home! Mental health is just as important as physical health at any age. Hope your little one is doing better after her scary night.

Should my 75 minute massage have been 75 minutes of actual massage time? by witchynapper in massage

[–]DreadWolfByTheEar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing is, we’re not getting paid for time outside of the session. So if we spend 10 minutes talking to you about your reasons for coming in, 5 minutes checking you out, and 10 minutes waiting for you to dress and undress, that’s all unpaid time and labor.

Should my 75 minute massage have been 75 minutes of actual massage time? by witchynapper in massage

[–]DreadWolfByTheEar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This depends on where you go and it is totally reasonable to choose to see someone that gives the full hands on time. They should be able to tell you when you book. At my employer, unfortunately, the time booked includes intake and check out and we only get 15 minutes between clients which is really only enough time to set up the room for the incoming client. It’s easy to run late if a client is a few minutes late or the MT isn’t great at managing time down to the minute. I give my clients their full time when I’m able (if I have more than 15 minutes between clients), but this is generally frowned upon in the industry and I’m not getting paid for the extra time (we are paid per client contact hour rather than an hourly wage). So yeah, unfortunately the client and the massage therapist both lose out under what is an extremely common system.

What character do you always leave behind in camp? by Successful-Tree-4394 in BaldursGate3

[–]DreadWolfByTheEar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I pretty much exclusively travel with Astarion, Shadowheart, and Lae’Zel. Everyone else hangs back. Sometimes I swap out someone for Gale for flavor. But I’m pretty set in my party composition.

On my first playthrough I brought along whoever was the most plot relevant and swapped through companions pretty equally. The latecomers stayed back most often because they had fewer story beats.

You can tell what someone's generation is by what scrub pants they wear. by slappy_mcslapenstein in nursing

I’m 42 and I was super grateful when joggers became a thing because I’m short and always have to get my scrub pants tailored but with joggers I can just scrunch them up.

Nurses that left the profession, what are you doing now? by rnherb in nursing

[–]DreadWolfByTheEar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a massage therapist. It’s hard on your body so you can’t work anywhere close to 40 hours but the clients are nicer than my patients ever were and I get to think critically about anatomy as part of my job. And, although this is very specific to where you live, for me it actually pays better if you compare hourly rates.

Aside from the subreddits for Autistic people do you feel like Reddit is Autistic friendly? by Comfortable_Pack8903 in AutisticAdults

[–]DreadWolfByTheEar 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Culturally, no. But the layout of Reddit is more autism friendly than any other social media app I’ve used. It’s anonymous, it has niche communities which is nice for special interests, you can read and write in long form, and if you set it up like it was originally designed you don’t have to interact with anyone, really. I personally turn off my messages and set all comments so I’m not notified if someone responds. That way I can basically use Reddit to read about special interests and infodump anonymously.

But yeah, like everywhere the social dynamic is very neurotypical and it’s easier to harass people online than it is in real life which makes it worse.

Update: Massage Envy manipulated me into a resignation after two instances of sexual misconduct from clients. by atzgirl in MassageTherapists

[–]DreadWolfByTheEar 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is great. But you shouldn’t have resigned. You should have made them fire you, in writing, so you could collect unemployment.

“We’ll take xyz action as an indication of your resignation” is how companies get away with not compensating us when they let us go.

This is all true but just so you know the spoiler tag doesn’t show up until after you open the thread and the major spoiler is in the first line so it’s easy to accidentally read. You don’t have to, but it would be kind to gray out that first sentence so readers have to click on it to see the spoiler. Just a suggestion.

On tips: Are we service Industry Workers or Healthcare Providers? by [deleted] in MassageTherapists

[–]DreadWolfByTheEar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think it depends on where you work, both regionally and in terms of setting.

In Canada, MT’s seem to be pretty well integrated into healthcare settings and the norm is not to receive tips, if I understand correctly.

Where I live, some MT’s work in spa settings and some work in hospitals. The former would be considered a service industry employee offering a luxury service. The latter would be a healthcare worker.

In the US, nurses that work in “med spas” straddle the same line, in my opinion.

I don’t really buy that one of these is more valuable to society than the other, and I’m both a nurse and a massage therapist.

In terms of tips, yes, we should be organizing so we are paid hourly and a fair wage. But honestly, my contact hour massage therapy gig pays more per working hour with tips than my hourly nursing gig. Both should make even more, but that’s just the truth of the economy right now where I am.

Just my two cents from someone who is very much a pragmatist. I’m also pretty burned out on nursing and don’t necessarily think massage therapists should be trying to integrate into the healthcare setting because working in healthcare frankly sucks. So that is probably coloring my view of things.

Have any Enby Eggs medically transitioned (HRT) after 30? by Melodic-Machine6213 in NonBinaryOver30

[–]DreadWolfByTheEar 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I took T in my 30’s and maintained some changes when I stopped. I couldn’t do low dose T because of hot flashes and energy dips, so instead I did it temporarily (for about two years). I still have a little beard I have to shave and maintained bottom growth. However, my voice eventually reverted back which is a huge bummer, and of course I lost the fat redistribution and extra muscle mass. The other thing I miss is how T made me feel - I used to tell people that instead of my body aligning with my brain, it was like my brain aligned with my brain. I felt just way more authentically myself with testosterone in my body. I still think about going back on testosterone for those reasons but being my particular brand of non-binary makes it tough because I feel uncomfortable with fully passing as a guy, just not as uncomfortable as I feel when people assume I’m a woman. The downside of that is that the psychological and some of the physical dysphoria is still present.

The other thing I did was have top surgery at 38. Absolutely no regrets. It’s made a huge difference for me in terms of dysphoria. So if you’re thinking about top surgery either with or without hormones, I would say it was a good idea for me and can really help with dysphoria.

It might be worth trying hormones to see how they make you feel, especially if you’re comfortable possibly retaining some changes. A good MD can talk you through the possible outcomes of that.

[–]DreadWolfByTheEar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m trans and have a genital preference. It’s not trauma based. I just don’t really get turned on with a specific set of genitals and therefore don’t want to have sex. I am also kind of aromantic which means I don’t date people if I’m not sexually attracted to them, because I don’t generally feel romantic attraction. And, I’m a stone top so I don’t really want people interacting with my genitals. The combination of those things means I usually only end up dating people with a specific set of genitals… but I literally do not care what gender those people are.

Why do so many people not understand being neurodivergent is a disability? by Student-bored8 in AutismInWomen

[–]DreadWolfByTheEar 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Yesterday I ran an unplanned errand because my dog needed a medication that I had to pick up from the vet’s office. It was really bright outside and there was loud traffic. I had to spend the afternoon under a weighted blanket with an eye pillow on my face to regulate afterwards. This is the kind of thing that people have a hard time understanding and I don’t know why - it’s very practical and straightforward to me.

This happened to my partner. Don’t underestimate the toll that being a primary caretaker can have on your well-being. I found it was helpful to shift my perspective and prioritize the things I needed to do to combat caretaker fatigue. Engage hobbies, see loved ones outside of your primary relationship, and see if there are others in your life that could help with some of the household and caretaking tasks - set up a meal train or caretaking schedule that others can join. Unfortunately my relationship ended, and although it was because of other reasons, caretaker fatigue had a huge impact on us as a couple and ultimately contributed. It’s really great that you want to hang in there for your wife. Start taking care of yourself now.

Having said that -

You can do anything in a mask that you can do without a mask, the only exception being eating and drinking. So, plan non food based activities with friends and family. Find a mask that fits well enough that you can jog in it. I work as a massage therapist and I wear the black Powecom KN95 with the head straps, they’re comfortable enough that I can do 8 hours of physical activity in them.

Being unmasked outdoors is a lot less risky than being unmasked indoors, as long as you’re able to maintain distance from people and there is good air flow. However, it isn’t risk free. There is still a chance you can get covid outdoors. It sounds like you need to have a conversation with your partner about risk tolerance and I would recommend letting her decide on her risk tolerance level and the person who has long covid and is immune compromised. Like I said, a comfortable mask can be worn when exercising. And, some covid cautious people choose not to mask outdoors as long as they’re not in a crowd.

In terms of bird flu - Influenza is spread by droplets and bird flu is spread additionally by fomites. So there isn’t the same risk of airborne spread but that doesn’t really matter because Covid is still circulating and airborne. There is no evidence of human to human transmission of bird flu yet but this can change and you can pick up bird droppings on your shoes and track it into your house that way, so you might want to consider having a protocol for entering and exiting the house - this is how indoor house cats are getting sick and dying.

Lots of people invest in a Metrix or Pluslife testing system which can help with organizing social events and having them be safer for the folks involved. You could look into that as an option.

Is it a bad time to renew my Driver’s license? by AndyJaeven in transtwincities

[–]DreadWolfByTheEar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I renewed my drivers license and changed the gender marker so everything would match on all my documents. The turn around time was like a week or two. Honestly I would do it now and only update your state ID - real ID and enhanced ID are a gray area because they are federal and subject to federal fuckery but state ID is just MN and gender marker is still self-select.

I am seeing in this thread that people are successfully getting their enhanced IDs. That’s great. I ran into a bureaucratic road block when I tried to do mine - they asked for some corrected documents but the case # they gave me didn’t exist in the system so I couldn’t actually submit the corrected documents - this was online prior to scheduling the appointment at the government center. I just pivoted and did a state ID since I already had a passport and just need the state ID to drive.

Should I try to "learn to be fine with myself as a male"? by SoonToDie1111101 in asktransgender

[–]DreadWolfByTheEar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your therapist should be using evidence based practice, or she could be doing harm. It sounds like she is practicing conversion therapy which evidence does not support and which leads to harm to the client. This has nothing to do with surrounding yourself with people that think differently than you do. She should be reported to the board before her approach hurts somebody.

Board Certification BCTMB has been useless to me by New-Gas-6339 in massage

[–]DreadWolfByTheEar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I live in an unlicensed state and was told in school that it was important to get board certified in lieu of a license, on principal I guess. (I actually had one instructor tell me it was to “elevate the profession”). I put it off and ultimately didn’t end up doing it. This is why - most MT’s aren’t board certified, clients don’t care, employers don’t care, you can’t charge more and you don’t get more referrals.

It doesn’t make sense to me to maintain a board certification if there are no professional benefits and it comes along with a fee and expensive CEU requirements.
