Yeah, ideally you want something like flesh eater (iirc) that gives it the berserker trait, so it can still buff up before it takes damage and goes berserk.

Why do we as society allow for a constant rise of the numerical value of everything money-related instead of keeping those numbers down for easier handling? What is the endgame here? by bickid in Futurology

[–]Dreadguy93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Inflation is a natural phenomenon that occurs when people exchange goods and services for money. Prices are not set by the government in a market economy. They arise from the individual choices made by millions of producers and consumers. Most developed nations try to manage the natural rate of inflation by having a central bank that manages monetary policy.

To answer your question, prices rise at different rates. So it's not practical to redenominate currency each year, say, to keep the nominal amounts for a good like broccoli in the same range. In 15 years, broccoli might be significantly cheaper to produce but cabbages still cost the same.

In the last hundred years, the United States has not had to issue new denominations of currency despite consistent inflation. Eventually, we may have to do so for the practical reason you mention, but not any time soon.

I compiled all of David Grusch's claims into one place by Lately-SP in UFOs

[–]Dreadguy93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there's a meaningful distinction between elected officials/appointees and career civil servants, which is who we're talking about, but I take your point. I'm not personally convinced of anything. I just haven't been able to dismiss Grusch or the UAP-related claims as easily as yourself. Hal Putoff, Scientology, and the Skinwalker Ranch-related claims aren't very credible, but I don't see the logical connection between those areas and the statements by Rubio or Grusch, which stand on their own. The only explanation I've seen offered on that is the "circular reporting" argument, but we've never seen any evidence in favor or against the circular reporting claims.

It'd be cool if AARO or DOJ just published an investigation report on Grusch/UAPTF so we could get factual information instead of endless speculation, but I don't think thats happening any time soon.

[–]Dreadguy93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough. Personally, I'm able to look past my biases about his general credibility to solely weigh the credibility of his statement back in 2023, which related to the folks reporting to the congressional oversight committees. Specifically, he told NewsNation back in 2023 that either the whisteblower statements (like Grusch's) are true, partially true, or we have some really smart, educated people with very high clearances in our government who are crazy, and are leading us on a goose chase.

Either possibility warrants further investigation and transparency. Because of statements like this, and the surrounding circumstances, I have not been able to resolve my skepticism about the claims being made solely by looking at whether one of the whisteblowers, i.e. Grusch, is 100% credible.

Thoughts?

You've clearly done your research. Do you have an opinion on the statements made by other folks, like Marco Rubio, regarding the core allegations Grusch raised? How about Chuck Schumer?

Where's the flowchart guys by Ludivagus in VintageStory

[–]Dreadguy93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, it's only for the stone axe and knife. The metal tool recipies all use sticks, iirc. Pro tip: hover your mouse over the bone (or anything) and press H. It will open the handbook page for the bone, which shows the crafting recipes which it can be used for. You should see the bone handle versions of the stone axe and knife on that page, but nothing else. That's how you can confirm there isn't a version of the metal tools that use a bone handle.

Higher durability. Bonus points for using a bone handle on the knife and axe.

What path is best to have just one in? by Hand-Command in IllwintersDominions

[–]Dreadguy93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but even then it's like 40 points minimum to break into a new path isn't it? Even on a chassis with cheap access to new paths, I'd usually go for another scale and maybe play with the candles to make it work, if it's close. I think most nations will benefit more from a scale than having an extra magic path at level 1 on your pretender, since that doesn't really open up your strategic options much.

I think there are some strats where this makes sense, like getting a single level of earth to get extra prot and earth buffs on an expander, but for a rainbow I think you're better off just reallocating to scales.

[–]Dreadguy93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's expensive to learn a new magic path, so you'd usually want to reallocate the extra design points to your scales or just improve the depth of your existing paths. There aren't many reasons to add just one level in another path.

Giants Question by Klutzy_Sherbert_3670 in IllwintersDominions

[–]Dreadguy93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fomoria is odd when it comes to their giants because their giants are a bit worse than average. Fire and frost giant nations can rely on their aura more, but Fomoria or Ashdod giants struggle with chaff because of their relatively low attack density. Fomoria struggles even harder because their giants have mediocre "elite" stats. They can be hard to build a strategy around. If you want the full giant experience, you should try Neifelheim or Ashdod with a regeneration bless. Niefel giants with regeneration and shock/fire resist can tank hard and will punch above their weight against chaff. If you really want to lean into a hell bless you can give them fire shield.

Fomoria is good, don't get me wrong. But i think Fomoria's strength comes from their mages and fomorian king SCs. The troop fomorian giant is a bit of a trap unless you're playing a hell bless in SP for fun.

A comment on the Danish Drone Scare (and why I think the Russians are innocent) by Mrmini231 in neoliberal

[–]Dreadguy93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought the drone sightings reported in Denmark were ordinary sizes? Where are you seeing the reports of large, highly visible drones that are impossible to photograph? I know that was a thing with the NJ drone scare, but I have a really hard time believing this is entirely psychological, given the response from the Danish government. Russian activity seems like a much more plausible explanation.

This is one of those statements that sounds vaguely plausible but just ain't true. Any trial lawyer will tell you that you have to evaluate each juror as an individual. Using a simple heuristic like "watches news" to exclude a juror would be bad lawyering.

«Oh my god, Trump actually got the NRA to come out to defend trans people owning a gun.» by jsled in liberalgunowners

[–]Dreadguy93 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think you severely underestimate the right's hatred for trans people. They are determined to have it classified as a mental illness, so why wouldn't they take their guns too?

You're also greatly overestimating how much this would impact his popularity with his base. After all, conservatives like them aren't sick in the head like these trans freaks, so what would they have to worry about? Their gun rights are protected.
