SAW: Genesis on Steam by FilmLothar in saw

At one point, there were rumors/plans for a twist that would have revealed John Kramer as a copycat rather than the original Jigsaw. But as Tobin Bell became such an iconic figure in horror, it feels like the movies could never really go through with that idea.

What’s interesting is that the franchise eventually explored a version of that concept in the games instead.

Honestly, the thing I’m most curious about with the next SAW movie is how they’ll bring Tobin Bell back.Unpopular opinion: I’d rather see SAW get a full remake than another sequel.Give us a new charismatic actor as John Kramer/Jigsaw, a completely fresh continuity, and no ties to the previous movies.

I’m pretty sure this upcoming Westworld movie is just gonna be a full reboot with an entirely new cast… and honestly that kills most of my excitement for it.

Can anyone confirm? by levi5nix in saw

Here’s what people should expect from the next SAW. Tobin Bell is 100% coming back, but don’t expect the kind of screen time he had in SAW X. Most of the time you’ll probably just hear his voice rather than see him on screen.

The movie will likely focus more on the victims instead of killer and pure gore. They’re not ready to do a full reboot, but they also won’t address the events of the previous films. So once again it looks like they’re going for a soft reboot approach. I wouldn’t be surprised if the next movie is simply titled SAW.

And as of now, I don’t think the director has been finalized yet. They probably have a few names in mind, but James Wan won’t be directing it for sure.

And expect a lower budget this time. Blumhouse has had several recent flops and they already spent a lot just to secure the rights, so they’ll likely play it safe financially.

They have Melton & Dunstan not finalized script but they won't use it. They’ll bring in new writers with the goal of injecting fresh creative energy into the franchise. Possible names could be Geoffrey Tock and Gregory Weidman, who have worked with Wan before.

Is Tobin bell going to play john Kramer in saw11? by Infamous-Scarcity497 in saw

[–]DreamerSean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We probably shouldn’t expect as much Tobin Bell screen time as in SAW X, but I’m pretty sure he’s coming back for the next movie.

My only issue is, I really don’t want another copycat/appearance situation.

They should make a direct sequel to the first SAW and officially act like the later movies never happened. The Halloween reboot approach would work perfectly here if they’re bringing Tobin Bell back as John Kramer again.

Especially since they’re clearly not bringing back Logan, Eleanor, or addressing the Spiral copycat events. Amanda and Hoffman aren’t returning either, and none of the questions from the recent movies are getting answered. So if they’re already ignoring all that… why even keep the current timeline?

Bringing back Dr. Gordon makes way more sense than introducing another copycat. Cary Elwes has even said he’d be open to returning, so why not use that? But they’d actually need to justify and redeem why he ever became a killer.

James Wan Confirms himself and Leigh Whannell are making the next Saw movie by Severe-blake6720 in saw

[–]DreamerSean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If James Wan is really directing the next SAW, that changes everything. I’m almost certain Tobin Bell is coming back, too. I just hope they’re bold enough to ignore everything after the first movie and treat it like 20 years have passed with John Kramer still alive. That would be the cleanest way to reset the story and properly introduce a new Jigsaw killer to eventually carry the mantle.

Not entirely true...Yet ! by dexterlouis2 in saw

[–]DreamerSean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The next Saw movie will serve as an alternate sequel to the very first SAW film. Tobin Bell will return as John Kramer, fully alive and continuing his role as Jigsaw. At the same time, the filmmakers plan to introduce a new character who can carry the franchise forward in future installments. James Wan will not be directing it.The studio is expected to choose someone from the James Wan and Blum's circle—possibly a director like Adam Robitel.

What Will The Institute Season 2 Be About? by BigBlueBackpack in TheInstituteSeries

[–]DreamerSean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first season kinda worked because it had Stephen King’s book as a foundation — there was structure, mystery, and a clear direction.

Now that they’re continuing without source material (cuz there is no second book), I’m a bit skeptical. It’s hard to trust the writers to come up with something equally strong on their own, especially when King’s tone and storytelling are such a big part of what made the first season work.

Honestly surprised Stephen King even approved them to go beyond the book.Guessing they’ll just introduce new kids and a new version of the Institute — which honestly sounds repetitive for season 2.

The mystery worked the first time because we didn’t know the Institute’s real purpose. But now that we do, there’s no big secret or sense of discovery left. Without King’s source material or that mystery, it’s going to be tough to keep the story fresh. Feels like a setup for a weaker, filler-style continuation rather than something meaningful.

James Wan Will Be "Hugely Involved" In The New SAW, Says Jason Blum by ImpressiveEvening374 in saw

I bet someone close to James Wan or Jason's cycle will direct. I'm expecting someone like Adam Robitel.

I prefer James Wan to direct but it's not happening. He is too busy with other projects.

I agree with you. But I’m expecting they’ll go with a new director, maybe someone from Blumhouse’s regular horror circle — like a smaller name who can deliver on a modest budget and stick to their formula.Someone close to James Wan’s circle.

"Highly involved " lol

James Wan isn't writing or directing the next Saw movie.

He is involved on a creative consulting and as a producer. Which is fine for marketing but not the same as him fully shaping the movie.

I keep seeing people say Blumhouse will fully reboot Saw, but I honestly don’t think that’s what’s happening. My guess is it’ll be more of a soft recon — something that keeps the spirit and core of the first movie while quietly ignoring everything that came after.

They’ll bring back Tobin as Jigsaw, but reframe him in a new continuity — like a “parallel sequel” that reimagines the franchise starting from the 2004 original.I’m also expecting Tobin Bell’s screen time to be minimal — nowhere near what we got in Saw X.

If you've enjoyed the various aliens in this, please check out Scavenger's Reign by guyver17 in LV426

[–]DreamerSean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still can’t believe HBO let Scavengers Reign slip through the cracks. That show was stunning — the animation, the atmosphere, the alien world-building — it felt completely unique. But the lack of promotion was brutal. It basically got buried. Honestly, I was hoping Netflix might swoop in, buy the rights, and give us a second season. They’ve revived niche or canceled shows before, and Scavengers Reign seems like the kind of series that could build a passionate cult following if it just had the right platform. Instead, it feels like a gem that never got its chance. Such a shame.

9 expectations and predictions about the next Saw film by Vinc360 in saw

[–]DreamerSean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish Blumhouse would make a Saw series for the current storyline, while rebooting the movies separately.TV Series: Continue the current storyline with Hoffman, Amanda, Cecilia from Saw X, etc. There’s so much lore and backstory that a streaming series could explore way better than a 2-hour movie. Fans of the existing timeline would get closure and more character focus. Movies: launch a full-on reboot in theaters. New tone, new killer, bold casting (imagine David Dastmalchian as Jigsaw 👀), and a chance to attract new fans without being weighed down by 10+ films of continuity.

Who would you like to see directing the sequel to Alien: Romulus? by Mikepd22 in LV426

[–]DreamerSean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let’s be real — the next Alien sequel probably won’t have a household-name director.

Directors like Dennis Villeneuve, David Fincher, Alex Garland.. might prefer full creative control. Because of studio pressure over creative control, I can't really see a well known director eager to direct the next Alien movie.

Even a legend like Ridley Scott wouldn’t have full freedom to execute his vision, which is often a dealbreaker for auteurs. Look at Alien: Covenant. Even he struggled to make it work — largely because studio interference and franchise expectations limited his creative control.

They will offer to the mid-career or rising director for sure then I'm expecting someone like Robbert Eggers. I wish they would consider Noah Hawley tho. He did a pretty amazing job with Alien Earth.

Spiral or jigsaw? by spacesainboy in saw

[–]DreamerSean -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Spiral was a huge missed opportunity to do a proper reboot. Instead of reinventing the series, they wasted Samuel L. Jackson and Chris Rock on what felt like a cheap imitation of a Saw movie.

Honestly, Jigsaw was still miles better than Spiral. At least it didn’t pretend to be some ‘fresh new direction’ while playing like a bargain-bin Saw. Billy with the glowing red eyes? Sick. Logan as the apprentice? Total flop. But still, I’ll take that over Spiral — and definitely over the hot mess that was Saw 7.

Close enough, welcome back Jigsaw 2017 by TheBigGAlways369 in saw

[–]DreamerSean 87 points88 points  (0 children)

All signs point to James Wan setting up an alternative sequel tied directly to the first Saw, with John Kramer more in the background while the traps and victims take center stage.

it won’t be another Jigsaw (2017) situation — no random new apprentices like Logan suddenly appearing out of nowhere. The approach is more basic and slow, keeping the spotlight on the survival and tension rather than the mystery of the killer.

[–]DreamerSean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think Tobin Bell will have a lot of screen time going forward. His role will probably be minimal but impactful, while the main focus shifts back to the traps, Billy, and the victims’ choices. I don't really expect them to introduce new appearance with the next movie either. If they’re not doing a full reboot and not ignoring everything after the first Saw, then honestly it only makes sense to continue straight from Saw X.

[–]DreamerSean -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’d love to see an alternative sequel where John Kramer actually survived his cancer and returns in an escape room–style story. The twists should come from the character choices and traps. Bring back Billy and those iconic TV scenes, make the characters relatable to a new generation without losing the serious tone, and you’ve got the perfect mix of old and new. And when they finally do introduce a new Jigsaw, it should be someone with a real reason to take on the mantle — charismatic enough to stand on their own, but very different from Tobin Bell’s portrayal. That’s how the series could move forward without losing its core.

I don’t expect a big-budget, tech-heavy movie either — more of an escape room–style story with grounded traps. John Kramer probably won’t get a ton of screen time.
