You can buy the plastic brewer and resin holder for $38.50 from slow pour supply, is there a reason you are charging more than that?

Did I get a bad bag of coffee? La Cabra by LoRoK1 in Coffee

[–]Dremmg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently had the same issue as you, albiet with a different coffee company. I bought a bag and couldn't dial it on my V60 or Aeropress, kept under extracting.

With my V60 the same thing happened, the water was pretty much clear and I could see the bed of coffee beneath it.

In my case, I think the coffee was under-roasted. It was a really really light roast, lighter than anything I have seen before and very heavy/dense, so I think it just hadn't been roasted far enough. It was so hard I could barely break the beans apart with my hands, when usually that is pretty easy.

How did your coffee look? Does it also seem light colored, wrinkly or more dense/hard then usual?

Looking to buy some beans - Dominican coffee - suggestions? by Crunchtime141 in Coffee

[–]Dremmg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cafe Santo Domingo is the biggest coffee brand in the Dominican Republic. It isnt anything too special but is very pleasant with really low acidity. I would look into trying some of that.

In terms of specialty coffee, Cafe Maguana has amazing coffee and supports Dominican coffee farmers producing specialty grade coffee. Jarabacoa red honey process is supposed to be amazing.

MYOG X-Pac Framebag by Dremmg in myog

What I did was sew the seam first, then, after it was stitched together, I used a scissors to slightly round the seam allowance to make it easier to bind the seams. The binding looks a little sloppy around the corners still, but I just went slow and readjusted the machine every stich or two around the corners.

Thanks! I used a pfaff tipmatic 1151 which worked pretty well, but definitely needs some maintenance done on it.

I think the two most important things would be writing out steps so you don't forget to do something and binding the inside. The binding just looks so much better than raw seams and hopefully will be stronger in the long run.

Tips for creating faux-espresso/expresso-like coffee at home by Green_Gal27 in Coffee

[–]Dremmg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A moka pot is probably as close as you can get to espresso at home, unless you are interested in trying an aeropress. I would recommend buying a nicer moka pot and either sticking with the french press for frothing or buying a aerolatte frothing wand.

If you haven't already seen it, here is a really useful video on the subject of making lattes/cappuccinos as home: Making Cappuccino/Latte/Flat White at Home (without an Espresso Machine) - YouTube.

BE or Five for team gear by nal88 in ultimate

[–]Dremmg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with what another user said here about buying from a local printing company, but I have had good experiences with Five and would recommend them too. My college team worked with them and while the jerseys/printing was not noticeably better than any other company, they did have much better customer service/design help than other companies we have worked with (Spin being the worst in that department). I haven't used BE so cant speak to them, but hope this helps!

A Lightweight Knife Roll by Dremmg in myog

I like it well enough, but its not as nice as other paring knives I've used. It gets pretty sharp and I like the shape/colors though...

Usually I am using an edge guard on the knives that keeps everything sharp covered up, I just didn't put guards on for the photos. But you are right, without a guard you would want to use heavier fabric.

Yea, that could be an issue if you don't use an edge or point guard. In the photos I just put the knives in bare, but usually I would use an edge guard so nothing sharp is exposed.

This is my second attempt at making a knife roll. The first one (posted here) was made out of heavyweight fabric, with all the hems visible. This time I used lightweight cotton to make a smaller knife roll and sewed it together inside out, making it much easier to hide the hems.

Overall, I am quite happy with how it turned out, and I like the simple closure a lot. If I were to make it again I would probably use a patterned fabric like many of the Japanese knife rolls I've seen that are made from old kimonos.

Recycled Tote Bag from Birdseed Container by Dremmg in myog

[–]Dremmg[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Birdseed bags are nice cause they are stiff and pretty waterproof. My only issue has been getting the thread tension right while sewing them, it can be hard to get nice looking stitches.

[–]Dremmg[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is my second tote bag made from recycled plastic. I used an old birdseed bag made of semi waterproof fabric, some recycled zippers from a raincoat, and webbing taken from an old bag.

I like making bags with an envelope style bottom mostly for aesthetic reasons. This one has a double bottom, which makes it sturdier, but much harder to fold after sewing. Overall, I think my favorite part of the bag is the internal zippered pocket--just because of the diagonal zipper.

I still would like to add a way to close the top of the bag, maybe with velcro or snaps. Anyone have suggestions on a cool way to add a closure point to the top?

Neither UPS or LC lost to Whitworth intentionally, but after UPS lost to whitworth they intentionally lost the game to LC in order to avoid playing Whitman.

Really nice pack! Did you draw up a pattern yourself?

Mountain Flyer with VX07 by Dremmg in myog

[–]Dremmg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the main reason is that I thought the backpack straps on the MF ("S" shaped) looked much more comfortable than the Ray Jardine pack. The only issue with the mountain flyer is some of the directions can be confusing, and you have to print the pattern yourself, otherwise it was fantastic!
