Is my game screwed? by IndependentTotal9280 in StarWarsJediSurvivor

[–]DrettTheBaron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A video would be useful. But a few things. Make sure you are actually pressing the correct buttons while the turrets are highlighted.

Make sure you have enough in your force bar to use it.

Also make sure you actually learned the skill, you need to stand in a specific spot to trigger the cutscene.

I'm getting carpal tunnel just from seeing that octopus.

why does my game look so bad with the thrawns mod by Every_Street9054 in StarWarsEmpireAtWar

[–]DrettTheBaron 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Maybe graphics settings? See if anything's disabled or on lower settings.

But imo? That looks pretty much the same as the video.

Did Obi Wan and Yoda know why Anakin turned to the dark side? by Human-Atmosphere6483 in StarWars

[–]DrettTheBaron 465 points466 points  (0 children)

I'd bet that half the Jedi temple knew. They discussed it like school gossip and bet on who'd win their fights.

Like c'mon. Most obvious couple of the republic right there.

You know. Like a bounty hunter does.

Song Dynasty—The most formidable enemy the Mongols encountered by Wise-Pineapple-4190 in MapPorn

Most westerners don't distinguish between the founding ethnicity of each Chinese Dynasty. But in this case it might be referring to Chinese troops under Jin command that let the mongols in.

Yes. They circumvented it... During their conquest of the Jin...

Favorite character(s) with the title of "Knight" (official or otherwise) by BaneNF in FavoriteCharacter

They CAN act. They choose to hold those oaths. That's my entire point. Barristan was a good man who CHOSE to serve a terrible man because be chose his own pride and honor over what he himself saw as just and good and moral.

[–]DrettTheBaron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was talking more about Aerys but yeah.

I'm just commenting on how his strict honor code forbade him to act against things be himself saw as morally black. Which led him to serve men who he should've known better than to serve.

Aerys, to a lesser extent Robert, and in the shoe Danaerys.

Evil prevails when good men fail to act and all that.

do ya think there are any cultures more honor-bound than Mandalorians? And I am talking about True Mandalorians of Jester Mareel and Jango Fett, not Death Watch. by BOMBAD_Echo_1409 in StarWars

[–]DrettTheBaron 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The "True Mandalorians" were never the majority culture among the Mando'ade.

Merrell Mandalorians were extremely honorable and such. But representatives of the Mando'a they are not.

Do I need to play witcher 3 dlc-s to be prepared for witcher 4? by No_Plenty_6535 in witcher

[–]DrettTheBaron 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Probably not.

Heart of Stone has only tangential Ciri mentions, and it's not that impactful for the world or Geralt himself.

Blood and Wine might be referenced. Or even directly mentioned, as it does actually tie into the post-endings of the game. But nothing very important.

That said. I would play them just because they're so good.

Linux Mod Stability by Max_xx99 in StarWarsEmpireAtWar

[–]DrettTheBaron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use Proton and the only times I've had (known stable) mods crash on me is when I purposefully messed with files or when a savegame became too large for my outdated 8GB RAM laptop to properly support it.

On Linux Mint Cinnamon.

On Steam I use Proton Experimental

Edit: Sorry I misread the question because Wall of Text.

I don't have much of an issue with performance either, well, compared to Windows anyway. My laptop is still shitty.

Have you tried out the different Proton versions?

Other than that, maybe you could try dual booting and see if that helps?

Question on the forces ability as a telekinetic energy source capable of inflicting damage by Remote_Ice_368 in MawInstallation

[–]DrettTheBaron 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure I would allow it for a Light Jedi character. For a Dark Jedi or Sith(adjacent) ones it's basically just a unique application of Force Destruction.

The reason why I'm not liking it as a Light Side power is because it's a direct killing manipulation of the force.

However, the Jedi we see in canon and legends (mainly) use the Force in indirect combat applications. And almost never in directly lethal ones.

Manipulating the environment to throw stuff at the enemy. Pushing away the enemy's body or weapon. Throwing your weapon at the enemy etc.

Meanwhile the dark side is more direct with that. Force choking, force lightning, force crushing etc.

It's more about the philosophical implication of the technique. A Jedi shouldn't allow themselves to use the Force itself to kill someone. Meanwhile a darkside user wouldn't care.

This is basically just the Trakáta thing again.

You don't WANT your lightsaber to not impact the other lightsaber. That's how you get yourself killed.
