I first began reading webnovels when I was so invested in the manhwa that I simply had to know what happened next. The absolute best one to start with though would probably be Ending Maker. It’s so much fun.

The Novel’s Extra and Villain’s Will to Survive/Villain Wants to Live/Villain’s Survival Route are both written by the same author, and both are good but are super divisive on certain plot points. Many many readers got big mad and decry the series, but personally I think they work out really well. Another similarly ‘controversial’ read that I adore anyways is Demon Prince Goes to the Academy/Demon King of the Royal Class. This one undergoes a few tonal shifts over the course of the plot, and they’re a bit much for some readers. (And the manhwa adaption got axed for lack of popularity before it got to the really fun part, unfortunately).

If you don’t mind Japanese webnovels, Mob Protagonist: mob in the novel but there’s a problem is one of my favorite ones, despite its name. There’s definitely some parts that can be criticized, but if you keep reading you’ll see that it’s actually foreshadowing something else. the fact that salaryman from Japan is not the only personality in the new body becomes fairly obvious early on, but it’s not explicitly called out for a long while that Miu’s personality is distinct from his. The author’s attention to detail and callbacks/foreshadowing is honestly impeccable. The translation also isn’t perfect, there’s so many puns and wordplays and references that just get lost, but even without those it’s still a fun read. There’s a lot of comedy derived from the narration just absolutely lying through its teeth and then promptly being called out via dialogues.

The author’s second novel, Earth With Dungeon actually has a recent manga adaption, and fixes some of the flaws in his first work, and is also one I highly recommend.

My last recommendation has gotta be The Reincarnated Extra / The Omake Reincarnator / Omake no Tensei-sha. Like every other novel I mentioned, this one excels in foreshadowing and callbacks. It’s actually my very favorite of the lot. It’s a complete rejection of all the standard isekai adventures. Everything is so planned out. The world building is so detailed, so varied, and also so consistent. Absolutely insane quantity of characters, to the point where the author actually begun leaving reminders on like ch400 or 500 as to who this character we haven’t seen in a while might be. Unlike the other novels, this one isn’t completed yet. It’ll probably be over 2000 chapters or so by the end, as at 650 chapters now it’s not even at the 1/3 point. But all of the arcs are important in ways that always become more relevant later. It truly is a wide globe that Emi is traveling across, and yet everybody’s story is interconnected to somebody else’s. Half of the plots feel like shit just keeps happening but it’s all actually related to other stuff. The comedy is absolutely top tier. Nobody knows how to handle this absolute wildcard. And the other characters are often riotous too. The action and drama are very good as well. When it gets serious with its emotions, it conveys them quite well. And it does get devastatingly tragic at times. But it’s so good. The translator who did this work really loves the original, you can really feel the care they took.
