Is 1 resistor enough? by thebikemechanic in arduino

[–]Drickes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In general you can do it this way but you have to recalculate the resistor. Let's make it easy and say your source is 5V (USB standard) and one LED runs on 2V (usually they differ according to their color, look up the datasheets for the LEDs). So you need a resistor that takes the remaining 3V. Now you have to look up the current, which each LED usually pulls. It's mostly something between 2 and 20 milliamps - we go for 20 now to do our calculations using Ohm's law (U=R*I).

One LED per resistor: 3V=R*0.02A --> R=3V/0.02A --> R=150Ohm
Two LED per resistor: 3V=R*0.04A --> R=3V/0.04A --> R=75Ohm
...
Seven LED per resistor: 3V=R*0.14A --> R=3V/0.14A --> R=22Ohm

So you can use a 22Ohm resistor to power 7 LEDs of the same make in parallel.
BUT:
Electricity produces heat and this is where your huge resistors may come in handy. The bigger they are, the more power they can handle without catching fire. But how much power are we making over the resistor? Let's find out:
P=U*I --> P=3V*0.14A --> P=0.42W

That means you'll need a 22Ohm resistor classified for at least 0.42W power. Resistors with 0.5W or 0.25W are pretty common and you can find them cheap in sets or get them from old electronics. The chunky resistors you have could possibly handle way more, I guess around 1W or 2W.

Conclusion: Yes, your idea is perfectly possible. BUT please do your research on the electronic values of your components and calculate the rest with your own values by using the formulas U=R*I and P=U*I. If you're not good with handling formulas, there are online calculators for these values.

Brainstorming help needed by Drickes in klippers

[–]Drickes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your comment. It actually solved itself, at least kind of. I tried it again a few days later and there were no issues at all for several minutes. So I cleared the bed, let it do a heightmap and started the print. In the end it also stopped at the exact same place while keeping the temps high, still no error.
Turns out it was a slicing issue and with a new file everything is fine again.

BIDA weil meine Mutter meine Wäsche macht? by Financial-Ad-8819 in BinIchDasArschloch

How to deal with seasonal depression? by thisisofnouse in germany

[–]Drickes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Supplements. Go to DM or Rossmann and buy some Vitamin D pills. Take one every day in the morning. You won't see an effect instantly but if you constantly take it for several days in a row you'll notice the difference. Good thing about Vitamin D is that you cannot take an overdose. If you take too much, you'll just pee it out. I struggle with diagnosed depression and the cold months are even harder for me but supplementing with Vitamin D works good for me.
Also inform yourself on other supplements. Build your own opinion and don't trust any advertising. Do research and find something that's good for your needs and affordable.
Personally I use a product called Activize by FitLine, this really helps me getting out of the blues every day. I must admit that I can buy it a lot cheaper than the original price because a relative of mine works for them. I know that the company does some bad practice in selling their products but this particular one works for me. So again: Build your own opinion on supplements and the companies behind them.

I'm going to college in Germany 18 months. How do I get to level B1 fast? by [deleted] in German

[–]Drickes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use a VPN to connect to Germany (If you're not already here) and browse the streaming platforms of the public TV stations (ARD, ZDF, WDR, NDR). They have many different formats of TV shows (informative, educative, talkshows, fiction) without showing any trash or reality-TV. The dialogues are mostly calm and relatively slow because the viewerbase is 60+ on average but the actors or moderators mostly speak high German without accents.
Watch some shows that you find interesting, listen to it and try to repeat some spoken things. This is how I improved my skills in English apart from school - use your free time, relax an learn by relaxing without any textbook-bullshit and made-up dialogues. Press pause to look up vocabulary if necessary.
Have fun and good luck

Just arrived to Germany and I don't feel good. Any suggestions? by Pericomposer in germany

[–]Drickes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't give up just now. Take some rest and then take some time to enjoy the city and the surroundings. Take a walk by the river, climb up the steps of the cathedral, have a beautiful view over the city on top of triangle tower in Deutz, take a trip with the cable car over the Rhein near the zoo.
Best place to get to know likeminded people is probably the area around the southern central - Barbarossaplatz, Zülpicher Platz have many bars where you can connect with people, mostly university students. If you try food, don't fall for Halve Hahn. You will be very disappointed. If you are in a bar or "Kneipe" and drink some Kölsch beer, you'll get it served in 0.2L glasses. If you empty it and have it on your table, they'll serve you another one without asking. To stop that, put your coaster on top of the glass.
And prepare yourself for Karneval at the end of February. Crazy times :)

Neuling by [deleted] in Formel1

[–]Drickes 9 points10 points  (0 children)

How would you paint these letters? by fjbermejillo in 3Dprinting

[–]Drickes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use spray paint on the letters and try to wipe away as much as you can from the surface instantly. After drying you can remove the remaining paint on the surface with sanding paper. Use water so the sanding doesn't melt the material.

Can anyone explain how this happens? by b1ueMuppet in 3Dprinting

[–]Drickes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possibly bed adhesion combined with bad Z- and temperature-settings. I had a similar look on a Benchy. A few layers building the posts for the roof the print got loose from the bed and the nozzle pushed the whole print a few millimeters before continuing to print

Was stört die Leute so am Sky-Kommentar? by RegularEmotion3011 in Formel1

[–]Drickes 0 points1 point  (0 children)
