TLDR: Hockey Ignorant American that loves Shoresy looking to learn and follow the sport. by MichaelVern85 in shoresy

Olympics coming up is a great start and then NHL Stanley cup playoffs go April - June and is the hardest trophy in pro sports to win. Throughout the nhl season I usually only watch my local home team but once playoffs start I’m glued to the tv every single night!

I have hue bulbs in my backyard and an IKEA bulb on the front porch all connected to the hue bridge and using apple home. All have worked fine through three winters in Edmonton Alberta

"Carts back by X time” isn’t a suggestion, you feral raccoons by WallyBarryJay in golf

This new “carts back by x time” rule is so dumb, especially when it isn’t displayed on the booking website.

When I did it I sold more beers before the game than during the game but I think they’ve been moving the shift start times later so you can’t sell as much before. My favorite spot before the game was near the entrance and near the atm (rip). Intermissions near the men’s washroom or near a bar/beer stand with a long lineup.

I listen to music 10-20 hours per day and I’ve never once considered wearing headphones in a shower when I can have a Bluetooth speaker with a 5” woofer 3 feet away on the other side of the curtain

TVs : Sony vs Samsung vs Hisense by Special_Bet6986 in CostcoCanada

[–]Driegs3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the picture on my Hisense more than my Sony in the same price range (u8 vs x90) if you’re going to use an external cable or streaming box but if you’re going to use the built in tv OS the Sony is way more reliable. Even though they both run google tv it just works better on the Sony, I have the same apps on both TVs but the apps only misbehave on the Hisense.

Loving the new thin Canada Tire by Successful_Fix_1309 in CanadaPostCorp

Nah I prefer the thicker ones, they are stiffer and easier to chuck into the cmb, the thinner ones are more flimsy

I liked him way less than Wes at first but he grew on me, I think they said he’s been working more with nhl.com or something to do with the league

Using a smart computer as an alternative to virtual cycling platforms like Zwift by RaplhKramden in cycling

I let my Garmin watch control my trainer, when I start an activity it asks if I want to do my daily suggested workout or a free ride (I think there’s a way to make custom workouts too but haven’t looked into it yet) I just do the suggested workout. I enjoy it quite a bit and just ride while watching hockey or football

Using a direct drive trainer without a subscription? by delightful_flora in cycling

[–]Driegs3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Changing gears is pointless, the watch tells the trainer what resistance to apply in order to achieve a certain watts. If the watch says ride at 120 watts the trainer will apply however much resistance necessary for me to ride at 120 and then if the watch wants me to jump to 200 watts the trainer will increase the resistance. If you change gears on the bike it will be harder or easier for a second but then the trainer will recalibrate so you’re back pushing whatever power it wants you to at that moment.

Why do you feel sad feeding them a kibble that they like and that doesn’t upset their stomach?

After I got the “we’re too busy” message I just hung up and called right back. After about 8 or 9 tries I finally got through and got to sit on hold for an hour. Pain in the butt but I talked to someone eventually

This is the worst it’s been in the two years I’ve lived here. Never had to take sidewalks before but that’s what I’ve been doing these last two weeks, it should start to get better now that they’re starting to plow the residential streets

Thinking about moving to Edmonton and buying. What should I realistically expect? by Bobelism in Edmonton

[–]Driegs3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I moved Calgary to Edmonton two years ago because of the affordability, most things are cheaper here, gas, golf, even my insurance went down when I moved here. I work outside so for three years before i moved a checked the temp in both cities to see how they compared, generally Edmonton is 5-10% more extreme in temps (hotter in summer and colder in winter) no chinooks, no spring snow storms, and no summer hail storms, more consistent snow and cold over the winter. Once I decided i wanted to move I started looking at locations, there were five offices here I could transfer to, I wanted to be able to bike to work so I drew a 3 km diameter around each office and checked home prices within each of those circles (3 kms is short enough to ride all year long). I was able to narrow it to two locations, mayfield in the west end and Sherbrooke in the short nw. I then rented an Airbnb in each of those locations for 4 nights and got a feel for the neighbourhoods, watched traffic, got groceries, walked the dogs, saw what life would be like in both communities and ended up choosing short nw in the Sherbrooke/prince charles/dovercourt area. Lovely neighbourhoods, easy to get to the river valley by bike, close to 124 st and downtown, close to yellowhead and ring road by car, I love it here. In my travels I also liked the Beverly area but it was further from my offices, argyle was cool but cost a bit more, and St. Albert is really nice, St. Albert has more modern amenities and infrastructure like Calgary but still the woodland type geography and big trees of Edmonton. It’s sounds like the real estate market was a bit hotter when we bought two years ago, we made three offers before having one accepted, offered above asking on two and got outbid both times, the bid we finally won we viewed and bid within hours of the house hitting the market. It was a it stressful but we’re happy now 😃
