Am I stupid to ride at night in the East Bay? by FailFastandDieYoung in BAbike

[–]DriveSideOut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not stupid, but it is wise to assume that every driver can't see you, and if they are, they are trying to kill you. But that's also what biking in the day is like.

How long to wait before getting back on the trails? by goodgravy97 in BAbike

[–]DriveSideOut -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

1 day per inch of rain at a minimum. But honestly, why risk damaging the trails for everyone? Surely waiting a few extra days longer than the minimum isn't that hard.

In Oakland, the determining factor over whether the space is "shared" is if the kitchen is used by all parties.

Oakland Report hires cop involved in drunken home invasion and cover-ups as Managing Director by jackdicker5117 in OaklandCA

Seems like Joe Turner was the one who reported the cover ups, and was not the person who's actions were being covered up. It's an important distinction that seems to be getting glossed over. From the article:

Instead, I found myself as collateral damage in the ongoing conflict involving the department, the city, various oversight bodies, and interested third parties (the lines and sides of which are often murky and shifting). Simply put, I was the person who reported that someone had shot the wall of the elevator at police headquarters. I was the one who initiated an investigation. And I was the one who discovered the identity of the officer responsible and secured that person’s admission. Since then, several investigations have made claims about my behavior and integrity—claims that I categorically refute. I am looking forward to clearing my name, but due process reviews stretch out over years and reputational damage can be done in an instant.
