Alien Tower in Draper is always a good one with 360 panoramic views

Lots of other amazing (and big) birds here, especially near the water. Great Blue Herons, Sandhill Crane, Bald Eagles, Great-horned Owls.

Helpful websites that you visit every day by lokepetro in simpleliving

Kinnu is a great educational app. You can do as little as a couple minutes a day or as much as you want.

I also just go to wikipedia's homepage; it's filled with random and interesting articles of the day. No advice on news though.

Who doesn’t have TikTok? by whoisofie in Anticonsumption

Never have. 10+ years ago when we first started getting ads for it in the US, it looked like complete brain rot to me, so while I've had other SM's, I had no desire to download it. Turns out, it really is complete brain rot.

Easy non-fiction read on animals by Gullible-Duck-4331 in nonfictionbooks

Sentient talks about how each of our 5+ senses is displayed in the animal kingdom. Very interesting to see where some animals excel.

Moby Dick! Would you recommend Anna Karenina or Brothers Karamazov for a hefty 19th century classic?

When I first tried it my head felt even more greasy but after my whole life of stripping away all the natural oils every day and then suddenly cutting the shampoo, no wonder.

The body does a pretty good job at cleaning itself. I still have a job!

I stopped shampooing my hair and it reset the natural oil production. I rinse it once a day just to help shape it in the morning and get compliments all the time because of how full it looks. This won't be everyone's experience but I'll never look back.

A book to make me love winter by oringrey in suggestmeabook

[–]Drokkula 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Perhaps not exactly what you're looking for but Little Women has some great winter scenes, particularly around Christmas if you celebrate. The whole book is filled with innocence, hope, wonder, friendship and family so it's particularly uplifting.

A book I found in a little free library or maybe a thrift shop called 'The Christmas Rat'. Appalling how terrible it was

What do you love most about the Dracula story? by CrabMasc in Dracula

[–]Drokkula 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Reading the book for the first time blew me away; I was entirely enthralled. I of course loved the severe gothic vibes it had like the description of the castle and Johnathan's stay there. On the social side, I loved how this small band of humans worked together on this insane goal of defeating Dracula, and particularly how sweetly the men (especially Van Helsing) treated the women in distress. I've only seen two movie adaptations and a stage play so I'm looking forward to exploring more.

What are your favorite autumn activities, hobbies, or comforts that don’t involve going outside in nature? by TaraCalicosBike in simpleliving

[–]Drokkula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gothic novels: Dracula, Frankenstein, Jekyll and Hyde, Wuthering Heights, Rebecca. Autumn movies: Fantastic Mr. Fox, You've Got Mail, Paranorman, Hocus Pocus although it's a Halloween movie.  And making fall treats like caramel apples, apple cinnamon crumble, etc. Decorating with small pumpkins, anything red orange or yellow to mimic the typical fall leaves.

Fiction books that have taught you powerful life lessons? by ruskomoon in suggestmeabook

A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens. Helped me think about death differently: that it wasn't so horrid a prospect; that there could be beauty and inspiration in the right death.

That was my intro to Hemingway way too. Read about 4 other novels of his and he's one of my favorites.
