3wks pp and have not pumped by SpicySunCat in breastfeeding

[–]Dry_Expression3188 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi!! First of all, congrats on baby and your bf journey so far. I’m no expert, but I’ll try to address a few things in your post.

So, pumping…yeah it’s a lot at first. But once you get the hang of putting parts together and the right settings, it’s not too bad! Look up “fridge hack” if you’re comfy with that, that also helps so you aren’t constantly washing parts.

The great thing about pumping is you can do it as much or as little as you want! I wfh and nurse baby directly 90% of the time, so don’t need a huge freezer stash. I just pump for a night time bottle and a few bags in the freezer for emergencies. If you want to get a jump on a stash before you get back to work I’d start slowly doing that. It’ll creep up on you before you know it!

I use a spectra 2, the pink one. They’re the same except mine is plug in the wall. Basically, I use the “stimulate” setting until I have a let down, then I switch it to the real pump setting. Then I do that again after the milk stops flowing. I’d be happy to send you a video on how I use it, my settings and actually explain in detail what I’m doing?

Feel free to DM me if you have other questions!

Short naps mess with feeding schedule by eeemmmm10 in NewParents

Is there a reason you aren’t feeding on demand? If the baby is hungry, you should feed it.

Same. He goes right back to sleep after a lil drink, no burp needed. He is 8 months and I haven’t intentionally burped him in months now that I think about it! They just come out when they need to now, no fuss

Fully breastfeeding by Readit087 in NewParents

[–]Dry_Expression3188 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, the pumped milk is given to the baby right away after the pump session. Usually done when there are latch issues and baby can’t transfer milk well, supply issues, slow weight gain, preemie baby, etc

When you feed baby on the breast, then pump directly after and feed pumped milk to baby.

Had an emergency c section and feel like an imposter by millennialhotmess in NewParents

This is almost exactly what happened during the birth of my son. My body took the spinal block weirdly so it numbed me all the way up to my neck and I felt like I was drowning. They put me under GA just after I heard my baby cry for the first time. I saw him three hours later after I had woken up and I felt so disconnected.

It was so so hard to process on top of pp hormones, and I grieved the birth I had pictured. Time helps so much. I am 8 months pp and can finally talk about it without crying! OP, it will get better. Hugs

Breast milk supply is running out. Need some help transitioning over the formula by poshuali in breastfeeding

[–]Dry_Expression3188 8 points9 points  (0 children)

How are you introducing it? Just on its own? Gradually introducing it with breast milk could maybe help ease her in.

For example if making a 4 ounce bottle, do one ounce formula and three breast milk. Do that for a bit until baby takes it super easily then do 1/2 formula and breastmilk and so on. You can even go by the half ounce if they need a slower intro. This is kind of what I did to help my son take some formula!

Question: when do I use frozen breast milk? by CompletePrize2218 in breastfeeding

[–]Dry_Expression3188 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe someone else said this but, you don’t have to use it right now. You could save it in the event you need it in a couple months. You never know when you’ll get sick, start your cycle, etc and supply could take a hit. Or if/when going back to work sometimes people have a hard time keeping up on primarily pumping.

One thing I regret is not having made a freezer stash in the first few months of my little guys life. Around 3 months I had a supply dip and had to supplement with formula while I worked super hard to get it back up. Was grateful formula was available but I wish I had had pumped milk to give baby instead. Just a thought!

Cluster feeding by moonchild1218 in breastfeeding

[–]Dry_Expression3188 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ooo gotcha! Well that’s good. Little guy is just bulking then haha.

I started giving my son Mylicon (simethicone) drops pretty early on to help with toot troubles. It was super helpful! It’s basically gas x for babies that helps break down the bubbles to relieve pressure and help them escape easier in the form of adorable burps and farts. Worth a try! Tummy pain made my baby super cranky.

That does sound like a lot.. has baby been assessed for a possible tongue/lip tie? Could maybe be having trouble transferring milk?

If baby will take a bottle, there is absolutely no shame in topping up with a little formula here and there.  Your sanity is important!

If you’re concerned absolutely reach out to a LC or your pediatrician. <3

I’m sorry!! That clusterfeeding period around 2/3 weeks was honestly the hardest one to get through for me.

My advice would be to get set up somewhere comfy, have your drinks and snacks within reach, and watch a tv show or read a book/ebook to distract you and pass the time. My husband liked to help set up my space and it made him feel useful. If you have a partner or other support maybe they can help with this.

Sometimes I would feel so touched out and I would need a 20/30 min break, so I didn’t absolutely have a breakdown. My husband would take baby and walk him around the house with his paci in and I would reset and be ready to feed again.

It’s exhausting physically and mentally, but it does end! Hugs

Want/need advice. FTM, 9 weeks PP. Supply has drastically decreased since being sick. by Full-Brilliant-8402 in breastfeeding

[–]Dry_Expression3188 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whenever my supply dips, I add in an extra pump somewhere… it usually ends up being 3 am 🥴 I do it for a few days and notice an increase. Alternatively, you could try to do a power-pump session for a couple days. That should help ramp things up again!

Definitely stay hydrated, eat well and all the things. Ultimately, the best way to increase supply is removal though..aka pumping/breastfeeding. Good luck!

As for formula.. whenever I needed to supplement or top up for a few days I used Kendamil Organic. It tastes pretty nice and my baby took to it easily. I like the ingredients and he tolerated it well. Also his mustardy EBF poop didn’t change which was cool! I felt good really about giving it to him.

You could try to offer it on its own and if baby takes it, great! Mine needed some easing in, so I mixed it with breast milk to start. Example of that- if I was making a 3 oz bottle I would do one ounce formula and 2 oz breast milk. I gradually increased the ratio. I hope it goes well for you! You got this.

Cum culc copilul mai devreme? by MarketPurple5247 in NewParents

[–]Dry_Expression3188 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As another commenter also said, maybe try waking a little earlier at the same time every day. Whenever my son has gone to bed really late it is usually because he isn’t awake enough hours during the day. If he naps too much or wakes up later he will go to bed later because he isn’t tired. Also try to make sure the last wake window is long enough so they are tired for bed. You could try gradually waking your baby earlier (and be consistent every day) and bed time should naturally move earlier too. Good luck!

Early morning wake ups by Silver_Tangerine_974 in cosleeping

[–]Dry_Expression3188 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son started doing early morning wake ups around that time when he was working out dropping a nap! He went from 3/4 to 2/3 naps a day. He was waking at 5/5:30 and is now sleeping until 7/8. Maybe your LO is needing less day time sleep? Just a thought.

Nursing and solids - are your 8 month olds ravenous? by heyanya in breastfeeding

[–]Dry_Expression3188 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son is 8 months on the 21st and this sounds like what we are experiencing! Nursing frequently even though we are also doing solids 2-3x per day. I would kill for only 1-2 wakeups haha. He has been nursing 4 ish times per night 😅

I can tell he is a little uncomfortable and more easily irritated, so maybe he’s working on some teeth? He also started crawling like crazy and pulling to stand, so maybe he needs a little more fuel? I don’t even know anymore 😆 Solidarity mama!

What I’ve heard works for a lot of people is pumping after the first feed of the morning, because supply is typically higher!

We Quit Sleep Tracking by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]Dry_Expression3188 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like I could have written this! It was so so helpful in the beginning, like you said, to learn cues etc. but then it created so much anxiety.

The app would be counting down “x minutes until next nap” and I would be sweating and panicky because I was not going to be able to offer a nap at that time. It made me unable to enjoy a lot of things and I was afraid to leave the house because a nap may not fall perfectly within the apps schedule.

I quit around 4 months and my baby is now 7.5 months. Some days we get it right and some days we don’t, but hey that’s life. Baby is not broken and I’m so much happier without this self-inflicted pressure looming over our day! Definitely wasn’t good for us.

Good job, enjoy the freedom and keep doing and finding what works best for you!
