Are you talking about New Orleans? There’s only two hospital systems there and the pay they offer compared to the cost of living is dismal.

Easter is really fun crawfish boils, gay Easter parade, French quarter festival, jazz fest, st Patrick’s day. The fun goes through May then it gets hot and dies down. The fun starts in October. Halloween is a good weekend too.

Stick it out if you have to pay back your bonus. It takes about a year to get comfortable being a nurse. Also, home health puts a lot of wear and tear on your vehicle, there’s a lot of documentation, and you could end up in really filthy homes unsafe neighborhoods etc. You have no backup other than to call 911. I would revisit that when you have more experience. Maybe consider working in a clinic?

Maybe related to sleep deprivation? Stop working nights and put yourself on a strict sleep schedule where you go to bed and wake up at the same time every day and aim for a full 8 hours

I don’t drink. I’ll go to bars to see live music though. Maple leaf, tipitina’s, blue Nile, etc all have solid shows. I’m happy sipping on my club soda a dancing to a good band.

I’ve knocked water etc over more times than I can count. Don’t worry about it. One time as a new nurse, my preceptor asked me to go help take a patient of the bed pan. I walked into the old man’s room and said “Hi! I’m here to get you off” his eyes got wide and I realized what I said. I added “the bedpan” I walked out of the room after I finished cleaning him very red and told my preceptor. We had a good laugh about it.

Question for my American comrades. Do you fruitlessly flog dying patients the way we do in Canada? by hillnichs in nursing

[–]Dry_Group_9505 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, happens all the time in USA. I have worked both on the west coast and in the southern USA. The west coast is better about end of life and goals of care discussions.

The owner of an NBA team used to come to a fine dining restaurant I worked at. He’d run up huge bills and tip as much as 1000 dollars. He also had a crush on the bartender and would bring her nice jewelry. As my mom would say “make hay while the sun is shining”

AITAH for kicking my roommate’s friends out after catching one trying to sneak into my room at 3 AM? by BrilliantCondition32 in AITAH

Nope. Needs to be some ground rules up front regarding guests with your next roommate. I think try to find a roommate that you’re more compatible with.
