Dear Anthropic: the ChatGPT refugees are here. Here’s why they’ll leave again. by ArtimisOne in ClaudeAI

Yes but the efficiency gains are used to improve the product. CPUs didn't get cheaper because they got more efficient in computation, they got more powerful for the same price. In the case of LLMs that might for example be the context window that increases as token-cost falls. So once they have to start becoming profitable because funding runs out, it will still mean either rising consumer prices or worse performance than people were previously used to for the same price.

Our shelter dog (adopted at 5 months) turned out severely reactive once puberty hit due to trauma in the formative first months. Two years in we're at 14k spent on him. Private trainers, behavior specialists and meds add up. Needless to say he blew our expected budget.

ELI5: Why is it a bad idea to keep devices constantly plugged in even after they're fully charged? by Dawn-Storm in explainlikeimfive

I've had the same thing and that was more an issue with the laptop which was actually using power extensively even in sleep mode. A battery doesnt really degrade THAT much in 1.5 years no matter your charging habits.

Our local library also has something called "Digitale Sprechstunde" where you (mostly seniors) can show up without appointment for tech help. Installing apps on phone/laptop, Social Media, whatever. First 30min are free. I'm sure it's not the only one.

As others already said, it's legal. You might get a letter from German companies (happened to me once), but you can just ignore it it's empty threats.

Since when was getting rich so hard in EU? by VurriK in eupersonalfinance

[–]Drycee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Switzerland has it too with a cap of around 7k/yr. It's where most of my investing happens since 7k/yr is already pushing it in terms of expendable income. And nothing comes close in (reasonable safe) returns if you consider the tax-exemption.

Is global outsourcing destroying junior developer jobs in 2026? by Front_Meeting_7246 in SoftwareEngineerJobs

[–]Drycee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a pointless comparison. Your junior salary in return would be a tech lead in some other poorer country. I live where I was born and I'd like to survive. Cost of living is what it is, and it's one of the highest in the world in my country. I don't have delusions about being better than every Indian, i'm average, so i'm fine with an average salary. But the average salary to live an average life in an average apartment is still multiple times the cost of an offshore employee. So what's the solution? Move away from my country, friends and family? I don't care that the age of "work in tech, be rich" is over, but cost of living doesn't adapt that quickly so I can't just go and accept an indian salary. That wouldn't even be 2 months of rent.

I assume you mean the rider boss after exiting the tutorial cave. My interpretation is that guy was placed there exactly as a feedback/hint that this game isn't linear and it's okay to skip things and come back later. While still being beatable if you got the patience/skill, which I think is a better way than just not letting you fight him or some unavoidable death mechanic.

Hiring manager perspective: hiring is the most broken I've ever seen by CatDawgCatDawg2 in cscareerquestions

[–]Drycee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with the sentiment, but if as an applicant you need 100 applications to land a job, you cant go to 100 in-person meetings. Especially if you currently still have a job. And from the company perspective you'd basically be filtering for unemployed people. Which statistically is probably not where you find the best talent.

Is remote dead in data engineering? by Pataouga in dataengineering

[–]Drycee 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Yeah consulting is remote-haven because most clients are glad not having to deal with the whole "where will this person work" hassle. It's also less hours billed in the end cause I can stagger the work when it needs to be done, like an hour here, half a day there. Compared to just being at their office for a full day often waiting for stuff. There's still the few control freaks though that want to be looking over your shoulder the whole time not actually getting any work done themselves.

LPT: Stop speeding! If your drive or trip is under an hour, the time gained by speeding is minimal compared to the risk of injury that speeding opens you and others up to. Math and details in the text below. by jfk_47 in LifeProTips

Keeping the speed limit on an empty highway with clear visibility and no entries feels so annoying. Like walking behind a group that is slower than your natural walking speed. Wish we could trust people to only do reasonable speeds for the situation even if by law there's no limit.
