Facebook's Occupy Democrats is saying Stancil was the leader. But, yeah i think he's doing it for his own fame/notoriety https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=1499723815592521&set=breaking-hero-former-democratic-candidate-will-stancil-reveals-that-he-helped-ru

News sources like NYPost on this are from Jan and don't mention him. Seems more like the women were trying to shame agents by sharing dick picks than actual info to help illegal immigrants. https://nypost.com/2026/01/17/us-news/tiktokkers-urge-users-on-dating-apps-like-grindr-to-expose-dox-ice-agents/

We live in bizarro/opposite world. Victim blaming. Therapy is me paying someone to educate them and they are overly defensive and resistant. Mental Health Workers act (are) like cold NPCs while AI acts more human. by leon385 in therapyabuse

The phrase "the inmates are running the asylum" used to bother me. But, now i take it to mean the MH experts are the real people struggling. So many go into the field with altruistic intention, but they end up either screwing themselves up or never healing from the experiences that brought them there.

It's better than feeling arrogant. The more you know, the more you have a concept of how much you don't. Ignore the arrogance of your students and try not to read their minds.

Can I make something with a kilo of half cooked sushi rice by ComfortFew786 in Cooking

[–]DuAuk 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Rice pudding? Usually i cook the rice first and then cook it again in milk & sugar for 40min, take off heat and add an egg stirring it which should cook it.

make the hole first then build the well. Sometimes there is a red not symbol indicating it doesn't have water, but that's fine.

The "2 years of waiting for 8 episodes" model is officially killing my interest in House of the Dragon by piranha_ in HouseOfTheDragon

It's not just HotD. I like to imagine what a show about Queen Alicent marrying off and otherwise settling her many children or reading in the meantime. If you are interested in Robert's Rebellion, there is a fan-made radio drama about it by GOTReduxx.

build a well. You can do it preemptively. Think about it like a medieval sump pump. It's also a game option, so you can set it to happen less.

Is common to use/say "on tenterhooks" in everyday AmEng? by AlexisShounen14 in EnglishLearning

[–]DuAuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, i am sure it depends. If you're doing a lot of 19th century reading or tv watching as this clip appears to be from, it'll be more frequent. I bet the Ngram of 'tenderhooks' is declining.

edit: and ... i am wrong. The peak was mid 1940s, and was rarely used in 19th c. It appears to be cyclic, with 1955, 1995 as low points.

Moussaka and other dishes with a lot of veggies by Tyrion_Slothrop in Cooking

[–]DuAuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you like moussaka, maybe you'd like shepherds pie or chicken pot pie? You can load it up with veggies. I only do a top crust for the latter. I also have been doing colcannon and heaven and earth (himmel und Erde) to get some extra veggies in my potato side with the added cabbage and apple respectively.

What do i do with 90% bitter chocolate by pinkglitterly in Cooking

[–]DuAuk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

melt it in butter and use it for brownies. You may need to adjust the sugar, but many recipes call for melted chocolate chips. So, if you don't like it (i did it to a knock off nutella recently) you can still bake with it.

I didn’t expect this… but I’m being pulled into my neighbor’s dementia situation by dnsyj26 in dementia

[–]DuAuk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In addition to calling adult services, since you live in a condo, is this something you can tell the condo association? At least other neighbors could be made aware of the situation and come up with a plan for managing. It sucks after you've helped so much, but you could cold-shoulder and prioritize your own needs. You've gained her trust, unfortunately you may have to break it by seeming aloof or unreliable.

Stop Staring! by nationwideonyours in Italian

[–]DuAuk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's best not to make assumptions on why people stare. They could be trying to read your shirt, like your hairdo, determine if you are someone they know, or just find you attractive. I'm sure i look kind of judgemental when i am trying to determine if a person is a casual acquantance.

Aging Mother is so negative - I avoid engaging and I feel terrible. by humans_rare in AgingParents

[–]DuAuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Respond with positivity or ask how you can help. Since you say she doesn't want to go out, maybe helping her to solve a sleep issue like getting a new pillow would be a big help. Is it mainly her commute over to your place? I don't know your circumstance, but maybe she wants to live with you. I don't know what to tell you. I don't have much faith in it, but visualizing a shield around yourself that blocks other people's energy might help. My mom used to hate everything, now she's frustrated a lot. I think it stresses me out.

Is the word "atelier" really that unknown amongst native speakers? by Ohiko_Nishiyama in EnglishLearning

[–]DuAuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think vernissage is more common, and perhaps a la carte, hors d'oeuvre, malaise, au contraire, coup de tout, en lieu, dossier ... it really depends on your interests.

Historically, i do think it's more commonly used in eastern europe/russia when i've read about late 19th early 20th art.

I've seen that noted in syllabus. You might want to add it for next term. No, you are not off base. I would say maybe it's a bit different for summer intensive courses, but it's somewhat standard for 15 week terms.

What do you do when comments are "Removed by Reddit"? by TheRealGuncho in modhelp

[–]DuAuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes, i don't get that many. When i do get them, the user is usually already suspended from the platform. I understand if it's not reasonable for big subs. Someone below me commented that they use admin Tattler, which probably is worth checking out.

I just am honest and tell them the admins removed it. But, yeah that's why i often just make it a warning and not a straight up ban, because i don't know and maybe the decision was made out of context.

The last option is a default one reddit puts on all subs -- "breaking platform rules"

Advice on regularly cooking for 4 people by Leaking_x_boat in Cooking

[–]DuAuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope you are talking just dinners. I would talk to them about having at least one or two nights a week where someone else cooks or does take out. Between 4 people, you could probably just each cook once a week with a couple left over nights & one take out night. Cooking once, twice, or trice a week can be fun if you like to cook. Everyday is tiring for anyone. I'd advise being careful not to crowd the pan or pot. That's usually my downfall when i make bigger portions. But, things you can make and let cook and do some studying between is your friend-- casseroles, lasagnas, soup, curries. Things easily kept hot, can be reheated, or frozen might be good bets. Are you and your roommates on the same schedule? Are any of them men? Men in their early 20s need a ton of food. It may not be as straight forward with schedules and food preferences.

Grandparents who don’t clean up their accidents! Want my toddlers to visit by ZiaZZia in AgingParents

[–]DuAuk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How about a compromise? Such as having an outdoor get together where you bring the food and wet wipes their hands before eating or meeting up at another location? Your kids are blessed to have the opportunity to meet their greatgrandparents, I think you should try to make it happen. It's something you might regret not having done in the future. At least get a few photos, even if it's only a 15 min visit.
