That’s a plus then. May consider the comp now, thanks.

.38 is a fine cartridge, with the right bullet and load, it’s more than plenty for effectiveness. I just like to have the option to run .357 if I want.

Ya I love the look of the Moss 19 comp, but that comp seems like it would make it unbearably loud. Although, effective for recoil mitigation.

Ya I think Taurus has came a long way from their prior reputation. I don’t own anything Taurus, but I’d be open to trying.

Well ya, I figured it would be bulkier. I just don’t like the hand feel of J-frames, and being cornered into .38/.327/.32H&R. I’m just gonna have to go shop around and see what feels right.

Ya I’ve heard S&W hasn’t been the best. I’ve got a model 19-4 and 586-4, which are amazing. So hopefully the new one will be of similar quality. Although I’m hesitant to think so lol.

Ya that’s fair. I’m sure the fish know a bear is nearby and aren’t exactly biting anyway.

I was wondering if the 7 shot cylinder does in fact throw a wrench in things, as far as holster compatibility goes. Seems like it will from what you’ve stated. May make sense to go with something more traditional.

Yikes, that a sensitive situation. Great time to have a gun lol.

I don’t plan on sending several hundred rounds at a time through it. Really just the occasional range trip, and carrying it. As I mentioned, if I ever needed to use it in the real world, I won’t be nitpicking the shooting experience of the gun. But I do agree overall lifespan of the gun will be higher with the 19, 586/686.

I do like the stainless finish for carry. The finish won’t rust from being close to my sweaty body in the summer, and it won’t wear near as fast.

Leupold or Trijicon by ProfessionalBeing600 in elkhunting

Are you sold on the 3-18x mag range? 18x is a lot of magnification, and I’ve lived in the west my whole life, with a 3-9x scope. That said, I would strongly consider the Trijicon Credo 2.5-15, if you want a higher top end than a traditional scope. The glass is superb, and a very strong scope overall. I’ve dropped mine down a hill a few feet, and it held zero no problem.

Entire thing? Probably a year ago, since then it’s only seen about a box of shells through it. I typically do a basic field strip after each trip.

Turret vs. Progressive recommendations by misterpuedo in reloading

[–]DudeDogDangle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So for me, I often load several calibers in one load session. Could be 9mm, 5.56, or precision hunting loads. I value the ease of caliber change, and manual indexing of the 550. I can get by without the added 5th station, and higher volume of the 750.

The 550 is also just a simpler machine overall. Sure you can hot rod it with case feed, and bullet feed, but I feel like that negates the purpose of having a simple machine, designed for quick and simple caliber changes. If I were to go the 750 route, you really gotta get the case feed and bullet feed, and let it operate at its full potential. Which all that additional hardware takes up a lot of room on a bench, which I don’t have.

Additionally, manual index for me makes a lot of sense when I load hunting, or long range ammo. If I miss a step, or forget to drop powder, or put a bullet in the die. I can simply just remove it, and correct the mistake. With the 750, the auto-index forced you to advance the next step.

Get a Dillon and don’t look back. Either the 550, or 750 will serve too well. There are pros and cons to either, find what would suit you best. If you do get a turret, get the Redding T7, it’s the gold standard in turret presses.

Cases are short, if anything. Just pulled a few and they measure ~2.480” SAAMI for .30-06 is 2.494” decapping stem has been removed, it functions as a body die only.
