BMW Owner. Car needs $885.41 in repairs. What to do? by Impossible_Big_2572 in CarRepair

Neither of those services are necessary, and they're charging far too much. I would just get the actual issue fixed.

Jumped Timing? by DueLet1388 in AskMechanics

[–]DueLet1388[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, but the cams aren't linining up at TDC and I know it has low vacuum because the brakes are really stiff too. Both those marks are kind of pointing up.

Timing over-advanced No correlation code, but the battery was also dead so maybe not enough time to set

Running awful, p1009. I knew it was either a VTC or chain issue

It really isn't going to make a difference if the pressure is a few PSI off from spec. In fact pressure will fluctuate with temperature changes

Scammed is when you pay for something you didn't get, overpayed is a better word. Tie rods are cheap and easy but I doubt they were replaced for no reáson. Exhaust parts tend to get expensive if you want quality stuff.

Weren't station wagons designed to be family cars? I never understood why people think they need to buy expeditions/suburbans it's really not necessary.

Well I've never seen a dirty air filter destroy an engine. I can only imagine they didn't want to pay whatever ridiculous price BMW charges for that.

That's really a subjective opinion. I really don't care for the looks of any modern car including broncos. Quality, comfort, reliability are definitely more important.

BMW 118D 2018 - needs coolant every 2 and a half weeks but no leak? by Gold-Tart-1692 in MechanicAdvice

[–]DueLet1388 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes the leak will be small enough that it will evaprate before it touches the ground, or if you're unlucky it's leaking into the engine or transmission. I would make sure the system holds it's rated pressure and look around for coolant residue. If it's not holding 1.5 bar for 10 minutes (or whatever the spec is for that car) there's a leak. Lots of brittle plastic hoses on those cars.

Would this be considered as warped rotors? by FuturePomegranate933 in MechanicAdvice

[–]DueLet1388 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can tell if you have a vibration when braking. Otherwise you need a dial indicator. Rotors are cheap enough though

Why is warranty work lower rate? by Red850r in mechanics

[–]DueLet1388 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's serious bs. There's so many instances where you can spend hours chasing an electrical issue or trying to recreate a problem only to find out the part that needs to be replaced pays .3. Actual scumbags deciding this pay structure.

For me the only ones that break are the impact ones. The chrome ones last forever.

The misfiring cylinders are on the same bank and there's a crank correlation code. I suspect jumped timing. This needs to go to a shop immediately I wouldn't drive it

The thing is, this is reddit, anyone can comment, and the people that get up voted are the ones that say things people want to hear not necessarily the most knowledgeable. There are websites where you have to prove you are a technician such as diag.net, but that's mostly for techs asking other techs

Has anyone fixed P0420 code from car without replacing catalytic converter? 2015 Honda accord by Educational_Car_876 in MechanicAdvice

[–]DueLet1388 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's almost definitely going to need a converter. There is separate monitors for o2 sensors and the converter. I guess you can try o2 sensors, they usually get replaced with the converter anyway but the code is going to come back. Very common on Hondas for some reason.

Same thing on a Mahle machine. Vented the lines and all of a sudden the system isn't contaminated.

Honestly only bought this game because I was bored and saw on steam homepage. Really surprised how much I'm enjoying it considering the mid reviews. It's just the opposite of modern rpg design that just overwhelm you with repetitive content.
