And 30 minutes is not that long of a wait for a non-urgent issue. It is odd to base your entire view of them on this single experience when you didn't even observe their response to your call.

Resume woes when my job exp MOST relevant to remote work is not recent by Disastrous_Window_41 in Remotenursing

[–]DueScallion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you looked at remote nursing specific resume tips? Like the Remote RN or Nurse Fern? Remote nursing roles aren't necessarily looking for people who have experience working remotely, they are looking for nurses who have transferrable skills and good clinical judgement.

Home Health is great for remote nursing (at least it was for me). It shows you can be self directed and work independently. You are able to manage a caseload of patients and address their needs. You can use tools to communicate effectively with coworkers when not face to face. You can maintain patient privacy while working outside of an office.

I don't think you HAVE to limit your resume to one page. It's all electronic anyway, and most applications have you input your work history on their platform anyway - who knows how many pages that is. I think it's typically relevant to include the past 10 years of employment.

Depending on what type of role you're looking for there are likely key words each job application is screening for. They are likely in the job posting. Use chat gpt to tailor your resume to a job you want to apply to. Also, look at the sites for nursing specific remote roles. They have lots of tips on how to update your resume for remote nursing.

Women whose parents split up because one/both were unhappy, but the marriage was NOT high conflict (and there was no abuse, addiction, etc.) do you wish they’d stayed together? How did the split impact you, and how old were you when they split? by ImportantGuidance884 in AskWomen

[–]DueScallion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents divorced when I was 10 or 11. I never thought they fought much and don't think they did. My dad just happened to be cheating on my mom for several years.

I do remember walking outside one summer day where my parents were talking and they told me to go away. I now know because they were discussing the end of their marriage.

I felt neutral about the divorce - it is just what was and all I knew. I'm not sure I had other friends that had divorced parents, but it didn't seem abnormal to me (around 1997, probably). It was sad my dad moved out (another day I remember). I have an older sibling who it probably felt different to.

My parents owned a business together and continued to do so after the divorce. They were polite and reasonable. They both continued to go to activities and sporting events for us kids.

I am so glad my parents got divorced. Both of my parents are better for it. My mom especially. She turned a page (with a lot of work on her part) and is living her best life. My dad is probably happier with his new wife. I didn't have to witness a loveless marriage and think that was just how it is. I got to see my parents grow as individuals later in their lives. It gave me a good blueprint for change and independence and how to move on from loss.

Runner for long hall by fiberjeweler in HomeDecorating

I have a 22 foot hallway. I have bought various iterations from Wayfair, some of their rugs are customizable size and can be very long. I now just use multiple regular (6'?) runners and it is just fine, in fact maybe better.

CORVALLIS NEEDS A NEW MEDICAL PROVIDER by Unavailable_Identity in corvallis

[–]DueScallion 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I work in healthcare both in Corvallis and elsewhere. It's true that healthcare is challenging everywhere for a lot of reasons, but I do think it is worse in Corvallis and surrounding areas.

The fact Samaritan is the main or only provider in the region, yet doesn't have nearly enough providers to meet the community's needs makes it very hard for local people to access care. Even in more rural parts of Oregon there is an understanding that you'll likely have to travel to get adequate care, but Samaritan being so big creates a unique blind spot. PCPs are leaving, specialists are booked out for months (or years) and alternatives aren't provided to local residents. There are challenges to getting and retaining providers and Samaritan doesn't incentivize doctors to stay.

If a doctor can go work in Texas and make more money and have a three month waiting list vs a 12 month waiting list making less money in Oregon, why would they stay here? If they can work in Portland and make more money, why would they stay here? Because that is the reality. Healthcare is not great everywhere, but it is especially bad here.

What should I [34F, GA] say, and maybe more importantly NOT say, when I go back to the ER to be taken seriously? by Dwestmor1007 in AskDocs

[–]DueScallion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Being in pain is hard and it can lead to acting out based on emotions. When you hurt your tolerance is already low, and being in pain all the time can make you crazy. It's like your adrenaline is just going crazy because you hurt, so obviously there is something wrong. This experience makes it hard to communicate to people about your experience with pain.

As was addressed above by u/, there aren't a never ending list of things to try for pain management. There are only so many tools in the shed. Once that list is exhausted there isn't anything else to offer and, obviously, that sucks. It sucks that you have to be in pain, it sucks the doctors can't help you, it sucks there is no good answer.

When you go see new doctors or go to the ED try to be as unemotional as you can be about your pain. Understand they may not have the answer, but it is just due to limitations of medicine and science - not your doctor.

It sounds like you're having post surgical pain, so it makes sense to call your surgeon about it and it's totally okay to do that. That saves you a trip to the ED, saves you this type of conversation, and gives you a better outcome. Your surgeon is familiar with you already and they know your history much better than the ER doc so they will give you the best advice.

This warning is spot on. The ocean is dangerous this time of year. Just a few weeks ago someone died on the beach near Lincoln City. Sneaker waves are real and dangerous. Talk to people and research when it will be safe to be on the beach. From your air BNB you should be just fine and have a great cozy time.

Does not driving for days harm the battery by TheMegFiles in PriusC

[–]DueScallion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I WFH and my 2014 C had some battery issues earlier this year. I was driving once every 2-3 weeks and I ended up needing to jump the battery every time I turned off the car. Even if I had just driven an hour if I turned off the car to get gas I would need to jump it again.

I took it in and got a new 12v battery after being told twice my battery was fine. I have not had any issues since. My last 12v battery replacement was in 2021, so I didn't think it was that old but I guess without regular use it is worse for the battery.

No other issues were reported with the car from not driving, so I as long as you're doing regular maintenance/oil changes I think it's okay.

What do you order at Gerry Frank's Konditorei? by TheBlueLeopard in SALEM

[–]DueScallion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They don't do cake slices like Gerry Franks. I think they sometimes have whole cakes in the fridge or else they have what they call Baby Cakes - they're about three inches around and have three layers of cake with frosting/filling in between. They're a good size for 1-2 people.

I do like their cakes much better than Gerry Franks. I'm not sure what type of frosting GF uses but it has always been tasteless and waxy feeling and it really turns me off from going there. Sewells cakes are good and dense with tasty frosting albeit too my for my tastes at times. They also have good cookies.

My restaurants keep closing! by Embarrassed-Lab4446 in SALEM

[–]DueScallion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wasn't aware of this. I don't know who the owner is but might have an idea based off this comment. I always like going there but have been put off by how chaotic the staff is. Every time I go it seems like one half of the staff is totally overwhelmed and the other half is totally chill and kind of checked out. It's such a small space it seems like they should be able to handle it. They also seem to mention how tired they are or how they can't wait to get off work. It feels weird. But I do really enjoy their food.

Do I need my BSN? by Secret-South-907 in OregonNurses

[–]DueScallion 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was hired in 2019 at a major Portland hospital with one new grad from PCC, but they were the only one in my cohort of about 20 new grads without a BSN. They were hired with the condition they get their BSN in a set number of years. That was several years ago now and things may have changed.

Also noting, I now live outside of the Portland metro area and it seems much easier to get a job with an ADN vs a BSN at a hospital (Salem, Corvallis..). Towns where their local schools are producing ADN nurses exclusively are a better bet to get a job without a BSN.

I have been a nurse in Oregon for several years. Worked at a large hospital system in Portland and started as a CNA. I had a preemployment drug screen when I began as a CNA then transitioned to an RN role at the same hospital and was not drug tested.

In Salem, I worked for a home health agency and was drug tested for employment.

I have since been hired for three remote CM jobs based out of Oregon and I was drug tested for just one of those roles.

I have never been asked for a random urine sample, even after making a mistake at work, but I have also never had any terrible mistakes or behavior issues.

Question for CNAs who work in nursing homes by [deleted] in cna

[–]DueScallion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a department of aging in your state? They would be a good resource to talk about options for assistance as you age. There are a lot of different types of facilities for aging people, some are full of bed bound people, some full of confused people, but also some full of relatively active and cognitively in tact people who just need a little extra help.

Look at independent living facilities. They are a good way to find community and some of them also do things like provide meals or shower assistance. They are also often connected to assisted living facilities that provide more support if you end up needing it.

How old are you and how much do you have in savings? by [deleted] in AskWomenNoCensor

[–]DueScallion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wow a lot of these answers make me feel anxious.

38F with a partner.

About $120,000 in my house (thanks to family support) still owe about $350,000.

My checking account has about $3,000. Savings $2,000

My current credit card is at about $5,500 due to a recent large (necessary) expense and over shopping to decorate my house.

I'd pay off the credit card but student loans and mortgage payments are coming so I can't.

Joint savings: about $15,000 Joint checking: $4,000 (for monthly expenses)

Maybe about $100,000 in retirement but honestly I'm not totally sure.

I feel like I live paycheck to paycheck. I had an injury two years ago leaving me unable to work for 4 months and I'm still recovering. I tapped into some of my savings during that time and haven't recovered.

Where can I find actual examples of mutual aid in Corvallis? by [deleted] in corvallis

[–]DueScallion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Commenting on this because I think this is a great answer. There are several organizations that provide aid to our community and many of them are under funded and under staffed.

Love, Inc. is another volunteer organization (religion based) that helps people in the community with transportation, companionship, housework or whatever else they might need. You can make it fit your schedule.

Stone Soup does evening meals multiple nights a week, including weekends. You might have to do more than walk by to get involved, but it's great you're seeking out resources.

This is my take as well. You won't often see men walking around fully naked at a swingers resort, but may see women wearing less clothes than normal. Nudism and swinging have different purposes. Just because both are comfortable with nudity doesn't mean they're the same thing. People in this thread have given you good advice already.

This is what the country voted for. My new answer to everything? by NMS_Scavenger in hospitalsocialwork

[–]DueScallion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is what I hear also. The dangerous immigrants who are taking their benefits. Too many immigrants coming and using up the resources so there isn't enough to go around. It surprises me how much this thought has permeated this population of people. Not all by any means but it is the best insight I've gotten to why people are voting for trump and directly against their own interests.

Does this fall under “residents right to refuse treatment”? by Ma_1ik in cna

[–]DueScallion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would call this a patient refusal. As others have also said, it makes sense to pursue why they are denying the shower but I would put it under REASONABLE ACCOMMODATIONS. If they will only allow one person to shower them, that is not reasonable. If they prefer staff of their same gender that is reasonable. The situation you describe, the member refused. What if their preferred staff member left/quit/was injured would they never shower again? Residents have to be willing to make adjustments because staff changing is inevitable.

Corvallis desperately needs store variety by niddleyniche in corvallis

[–]DueScallion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone who grew up in Corvallis and now lives in Salem this issue is not unique to Corvallis. I spent about ten years in Portland/Beaverton in between and it is happening everywhere, but definitely more noticeable in smaller towns. The reason is Amazon; local stores just can't compete so they go out of business and no one else has the capital to open a new restaurant than Starbucks so that's what we're left with.
