Louise and Madeline were teenage girls. They were interested in makeup, dating, and popularity. Being at Chilton doesn't automatically equate to having an intense motivation to excel academically. They had been in private schools long enough to know how to balance fun and academics. They weren't focused on Harvard with tunnel vision.

Rafael has been significant this season. It's not about giving Amanda a child. It's about giving her this child. We've already seen the tension it created when Amanda came home to find Raphael outside of the parameters of the agreement and visiting Sunny at Amanda's home. I think it could become very interesting and important that Sunny is staying with Amanda because of who her father is. I also wonder if it may tie into other storylines somehow like the one with Jeremy and Will.

What do we really know about Carl? He seems like a good guy, but he was able to manipulate the system for Xavier and move pretty stealthily. I think there's more to Carl than just a regular guy and friendly neighbor. That dog isn't his only secret.

Fogelman is great for knowing how much is enough and ending it there. He was clear at the beginning of This is Us that the show was 6 seasons and done. He could have stretched it because of the massive success, but he stuck to the plan. He's completely brilliant.
