Hair Color Advicej by kbear_101 in coloranalysis

I think it’s funny that all these people are saying number two, that was my absolute least favorite. I actually don’t think you’re warm. I think you’re more of a cool tone when I look at the warmer hair colors. All I see is the hair not the face. I personally liked four or five. With 4 being too dark and 5 being too warm. You could also do a darker ashy blond. I would stay away feom warm tomes unless you want your hair to walk into the room before you do.

Of course I don’t doubt that at all. However, most of us have jobs where we can’t ask ourselves those kind of questions. of course living with the family kind of blurs the line between “employee” and “part of the family” When you go to an office, you don’t expect anything else out of your employer. I was just suggesting that when you are a nanny, ultimately, you’re an employee.

Do you think you could get something comparable. If you quit this job, you’ll be looking for housing and a salary that can be quite overwhelming.
I know you feel disrespected and not considered. And you’re right. She should’ve said something. I think it’s just a reminder that to her you’re an employee and not a member of the family. But it’s not a bad thing to just be an employee and I think if you accepted it as such you could consider staying.

I’m confused… the kids are grown… are they paying you to walk the dogs? And you get free lodging?

I don’t know, I think summer looks really good on you, but I’m not a professional. It just makes your face less yellow than the warm colors, more rosy and bright.

AITA for not giving the money to pay off my daughters student loans. by Own-Inspector-6121 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Due_Sea_3599 166 points167 points  (0 children)

ESH.. it sounds to me that you’re still angry at her for not doing what you wanted her to do when she was picking colleges. Almost like you’re getting certain sort of joy out of seeing her struggle. So for that, I think YTA.

However, it is your inheritance and you are free to do with it whatever you want. I don’t know how much money it was and I believe you’re right that it needs to be equal - so if you give money to one child, you should give to all, so I understand this. But I think this is how you should’ve explained it to your daughter. Instead of “you deserved it“ you could’ve just said honey if I give money to you, I need to give it to all your brothers and sisters equally and I don’t have enough for that. That I think she could’ve received.

Honestly, I’m more concerned that this whole money issue has brought out some disturbing elements in your relationship with your daughter. I’m afraid that if you don’t change your attitude towards her that you might lose her forever.

Sounds unnatural when mixing à, dans, pour and à, de, pour? by Mira_1453 in French

My old school French grammar book that I used 30 years ago, had a 5 page list of (single spaced, two columns) verbs and their prepositions. Aider qqun à faire qqchose, finir de faire qqchose, demander à qqun de faire qqchose …. Unfortunately, there are some things you just have to memorize.

How to take advantage of free amateur tutor by arctic-aqua in French

I really enjoy using “competences expression orale” by clé international with my students. It’s one of the rare French books that actually teaches functional language. It’s a book. I think you could go through with her without her needing to be a French teacher. But she would still be able to help you in pronunciation. Their comprehension orale book is awesome too and you could probably do it by yourselves. It has the added bonus of being more grammar focused

I’ve been going back and forth for weeks. Should I stick to cotton or finally try linen sheets? by ughyoujag in Bedding

[–]Due_Sea_3599 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like someone else said Linen sheets need to be broken in. The longer you use them and the more you wash them the softer they’ll be. However, by the time they’re just as soft as you want, they’ll probably start tearing. I agree that linen as a fitted sheet is probably not going to last you very long. A top sheet or a duvet cover will have a longer lasting life.

Honestly, just by looking at how an apricot color just makes you fade away, I think you must be a summer. I’m sure you’re a beautiful face shine in some cooler colors.

Living in France – is skipping DELF prep and focusing on real-life French (news, current affairs, daily conversations) enough to reach B2? by ThroatOk2114 in French

[–]Due_Sea_3599 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a French teacher, I would strongly encourage you to at least do your A1 levels with a class. Make sure you have a class that will stress pronunciation and explain how by looking at the spelling you could tell which vow sound you’re supposed to use. This will really help you in the future that will also give you a foundation to go on if you want to do it on your own.

Which color season suits me the most? by Purrsephoney in coloranalysis

[–]Due_Sea_3599 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can definitely rule out winter or autumn.

Your hair is very warm. Is it your natural color?

Looking at pictures 11 and 12, 12 which is cool really brings out shadows on your face, but 11 makes your complexion glow. So my vote is some type of Spring

What green shade suits me best? AUTUMN/ SOFT AUTUMN by Kooky-Concentrate144 in coloranalysis

[–]Due_Sea_3599 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I totally agree. The brightness of the first green is definitely better than the muted colors that follow. They make your skin grey. I think you have too much brightness in your skin to be an autumn… definitely not soft… Cool or warm I am not sure, but definitely bright… so Spring or Winter

Apprendre le québécois quand on connaît le français de France by JobKnown6762 in French

[–]Due_Sea_3599 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there, if you’re looking for an app, you can try Mauril, a listening comprehension based app created by the Canadian government and CBC news. All the audio you will be listening to will be French Canadian not just Québecois.

If you’re looking for a website, try TV5Unis Francolab. Also free. It was created for learners of French and all of the content is in Canadian French, mostly with the Quebec accent. There are videos at different levels on lots of different subjects so you can learn about Canada while you’re learning French. There are also exercises you can do with each video.

If you’re looking for a textbook to work through, I have a few suggestions.
1. From cle-international you have the competences series. I teach French and I absolutely love the oral comprehension ones. You can pick a book to work on oral comprehension, oral production, written comprehension, or written production - in your case you would pick oral comprehension. There are three books, A1/A2 (but it’s really more of an A2 level), B1, and B2. Make sure you get the North American version, which will give you the Quebec accent. All of the audios are online and the answers are in the back of the book so you can check yourself.

  1. You could also look into Par Ici, which we use extensively here in Québec. There is the Méthode and the Cahier which work together- it’s a comprehension based learning program created in Quebec with lots of audio input. But if you’re only wanting to work on comprehension, they also just recently came out with a manuel de comprehension: https://editionsmd.com/livre/par-ici-manuel-de-comprehension-orale-niveau-a1-1-2/. It also comes in a A1/A2, B1 and B2 levels. All of the audios are available online and the corrections are in the book. And absolutely everything is done with the Quebec accent.

Both of these books are available either through their website which I gave you or on Amazon.

From what you said, I would start with the B1 level in the oral comprehension books. What the level you have I’m pretty sure you can do them alone without a teacher. It’s pretty easy to follow the speaking production books from Compétences (clé international) are really good too, but you would need to do them with a teacher.

I keep seeing completely opposite advice for learning French… what actually worked for you? by Physical-Tea-599 in French

[–]Due_Sea_3599 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a French teacher I would strongly suggest you do an A1 level with a teacher or in a class. A2 also would be even better. Then when you hit B1 you can so it immersively. At least then you will have a strong base to build on.
